Funny / Musical Touken Ranbu

  • In Atsukashiyama Ibun:
    • In the trial performance, during field duty, Mikazuki tries to figure out how to use a hoe and concludes that it’s meant to be ridden like a horse. Kogitsunemaru, who is just as clueless, somehow takes his word for it despite that clearly not being it’s purpose.
      • In the actual performance, Mikazuki tries to use it to sleep but leans back on it so far it falls over and he hits his head on the floor/dirt.
    • The entire mission gathering scene is chaos and laughter:
      • At the start of most missions, the characters line up and introduce themselves to the Saniwa/audience by quoting one of their in-game lines, going in order of appearance. Following this trend, Kashuu speaks first, only to be met with deafening silence as he looks around and realizes he is the only one in the room.
      • When the Sanjou finally show up, none of them are ready for the mission and are preoccupied with their own activities. Mikazuki is sipping tea and eating snacks, Kogitsunemaru quotes an in-game line but is more concerned with his hair and tries to brush Kashuu's, Iwatooshi and Imanotsurugi are more preoccupied with catching clouds, and Ishikirimaru is running late because he's performing a purification ritual and walks, very, very slowly. After hearing him slowly approaching and chanting all the way, Kashuu loses his patience and drags him into the room.
      • Mikazuki weakly throws a paper airplane that doesn't fly very far and then laughs as if it's the funniest thing ever.
      • Ishikirimaru is a terrible artist. He draws a picture of Kashuu, which Kashuu asks is a picture of the ground after he shows it to him. Ishikirimaru then goes to Mikazuki for a second opinion on the drawing, and Mikazuki asks the same thing.
      • The Sanjou descend into anarchy when Kashuu leaves the mission site for five seconds to clean up Mikazuki's tea supplies. Ishikirimaru returns to his ritual, Kogitsunemaru is still brushing his hair, Mikazuki is riding an invisible horse, and Iwatooshi and Imanotsurugi are roughhousing.
      • When Kashuu finally gets their attention, Mikazuki dismounts his invisible horse and pets it.
    • Mikazuki discarding his sword and beating the Historical Revisionists up with his fists can be seen as both cool and unintentionally funny, especially since the Historical Revisionists are still helpless against him despite having their weapons.
    • In the live segment, Mikazuki eagerly initiates the punishment game, only to be revealed as the one who skipped training and is the one to be punished, much to his surprise. Mikazuki then tries to weasel out of being punished, but the way he does it differs in the initial run vs the rerun:
      • In the first run, Iwatooshi comes to Mikazuki's aid and claims that as a Tenka Goken, he would not have skipped training, to which Mikazuki agrees, but the light choosing him proves that he did.
      • In the rerun, Mikazuki says "the moon is also beautiful" every time Kashuu asks how he will be punished, getting louder every time he says it, in a thinly veiled attempt to change the subject.
      • Kashuu's confusion during the game and him commenting on the strange lights and music before it selects the person being punished. Makes you wonder how the Sanjou managed to set all of that up without him knowing.
  • In Bakamatsu Tenrouden:
    • Izuminokami gets drunk on one cup of sake that hasn't even had time to settle in his system. Meanwhile, Hachisuka chugged a comically large mug in almost one sitting (he had to stop for air) and was perfectly fine.
  • In Tsuwamono Domo:
    • Hizamaru is put into a similar role as Kashuu where he has to wrangle in the all-too-carefree Sanjou, but after nearly complaining and being frustrated the whole musical, he realizes that he may be too uptight and proves that he can also be carefree by cartwheeling offscreen.
    • Mikazuki and Higekiri perform a "becoming friends" ritual, in which they make eye contact, approach each other, and then begin imitating each other's movements. Kogitsunemaru's only response to this is, "They seem to understand each other."
    • Higekiri not remembering peoples names extends to everyone apparently, as he forgets both Mikazuki and Kogitsunemaru’s names immediately after talking to them.
    • Mikazuki distracts Kogitsunemaru by complimenting his "fur" to avoid field duty, which Kogitsunemaru falls for and doesn't realize he's gone until it's too late.
      • This comes back at the end of the play, when Mikazuki tries to bribe Kogitsunemaru with a tea snack to avoid making him work in the fields. This time, Kogitsunemaru doesn't fall for it and tells him he’s not excuse.
    • After Mikazuki decides which Touken Danshi will be on which team, Kogitsunemaru suspiciously asks why he didn't partner him off with him, to which Mikazuki responds by dramatically implying that Kogitsunemaru doesn’t want to be separated from him, which he denies. Hilariously, everyone looks shocked, as if they're thinking the same thing.
      • The sped at which Mikazuki pulls himself back together after making the accusation and explains himself.
    • Yasuhira looks exceptionally confused when Mikazuki pulls out a lotus flower and starts serenading him. He’s so confused, in fact, that he puts the knife he was just trying to kill Mikazuki with away and just kinda stares at him.
      • What makes it funnier is that it's probably the first instance in which someone In-Universe doesn't understand why another character suddenly started singing.
  • In Kishou Hongi:
    • Tsurumaru jumpscaring the usually mellow Akashi so bad he nearly draws his sword in defense.
    • Otegine spends a good portion of the play (and future plays) being reluctant to practice being an idol with Kotegiri Gou because dancing for him is impossible. He quickly ditches this mindset in the second act of the play when he’s forced to be an Idol Singer with the rest of the Touken Danshi anyway, and seems to be enjoying himself!
    • Tsurumaru returning from being chased by the Kebiishi severely wounded and covered in blood, claiming he fell down a hill. Unintentionally funny, because the Touken Danshi are Made of Iron in any other scenario, but he takes that much damage rolling down a hill? Almost makes you think he was lying and just chose to fight the damn thing head on.
      • The Kebiishi, which is even more resilient than the Touken Danshi, spent most of the play being a big threat and shrugging off their attacks, but similarly came back extremely injured and weak from rolling down the same hill Tsurumaru did. What the hell happened offscreen? Was the hill covered in jagged rocks?
  • In Shunpu Touri no Sakazuki:
    • Some Black Comedy drawn from Tsurumaru beating Ookurikara up for seemingly no reason and laughing like a cartoon villain as he does it.
    • During a Furyuumonji session, Tsurumaru gets a little too into playing the role of Ookurikara/Kojuro’s distressed wife and sobs pretty violently to the point of it being both hilarious and disturbing. Even better, he actually liked doing this and is disappointed when Kosai Souitsu tells him that the Furyuumonji session is over.
    • At the end of the play, Tsurumaru falling into the hall that he dug near the beginning of the play and then getting angry at “someone” for digging a hole there.
  • In Shinken Ranbusai 2017:
    • Muramasa pops up out of nowhere after hearing Kashuu saying “Naked” and starts flashing his leg.
    • The Touken Danshi initially think to warm themselves up by playing Oshikura Manju, game where the the players press together, then start rubbing their butts on each other. Even Tonbokiri gets in on It, with Nagasone being a somewhat unwilling participant. It takes Muramasa saying he’s going to strip for them to stop.
    • Kashuu offers to feed Ookurikara a manju Mikazuki gave him, and Ookurikara Tsundere-ly pretends he doesn't want to eat it, only to give in and try to... Kashuu then smugly eats it himself.
  • In Michi no Oku, Hitotsu wa Chisu:
    • During the second act, a different game is played between the characters during performance with all of the dialogue improvised, leading to different funny moments:
      • The characters are divided into two-person teams for the first game, in which the object is for the two players to use only their heads to guide a ball to the finish line, and the winner will have their name called by the audience. However, the Yamanbagiri Kunihiro and Tsurumaru pair and the Mikazuki and Kashuu pair awkwardly struggled to get into position due to the height differences, with Tsurumaru openly complaining about it. It's doubly funny because Tsurumaru is a tachi, so according to the logic of the game, Yamanbagiri should be shorter than him, but the actor is just too tall.
      • In the second game, two teams engaged in a hand sumo match in which they attempted to push the other out of the circle. As the Yokozuna of swords, Ookanehira naturally boasts before his fight with Mikazuki, only to lose when he trips and ends up hugging him instead. The other swords immediately made fun of him.
      • In the curtain call version of "Touken Ranbu," Tsurumaru knocks Mikazuki off of him when he touches his shoulder, and Mikazuki falls away very dramatically.
      • Every time the actors are made to carry the baskets to catch balls in on their backs, the audience yells at them that they're cute.
      • In a repeat of the ball game, Mikazuki and Suishinshi were paired up, but due to the great difference in their heights, Mikazuki ends up picking Suishinshi up and carrying him to the finish line.
      • Another game involved the characters creating Haiku, with the added twist of having to include specific ingredients in the phrases. Tsurumaru's team had a nonsensical Haiku, but they won because they used the ingredients, whereas Kashuu's team's verse had nothing to do with food, let alone the specified ingredients.
    • Kashuu hits Mikazuki on the butt with his drum stick on the day 14 performance. Apparently this has become a part of the choreography from that performance onwards.
    • During Mikazuki's solos, there is a pause in the lyrics where he asks, "Will you stay by my side?" In addition to the audience erupting into screams upon hearing this line, the Touken Danshi cast members pop their heads out from the wings of the stage and cheer like fangirls before going back in.
