• Cecil tells Carlos that the road they're driving on is a Moebius strip.
  Carlos: That isn't physically possible.
  Cecil: And neither are angels! See? You're really picking this up fast now!
• One of the theologians, Ichiro, gets educated out of knowing angels exist, and "blinks out" every time they get mentioned. The team just decides to stop using the "A word" around him.
  • This gets a Brick Joke in the final chapter, when Carlos, while checking in on the team members who've left the project, finds out that some of Ichiro's re-education has worn off, and how he just consciously insists that angels aren't real.
• Carlos almost faints when he sees Cecil with an alethiomether in his possession.
  Carlos: Is that what I think it is?
  Cecil: Depends. Do you think it's an obsidian coffee mug with stenciled jellyfish on the side that appear to be moving? Because it isn't that.
• Apparently on the way in and out of Night Vale, along with many other questions, a kid hiding in the ceiling asks for your kissing history. On the way out to visit his family, Carlos cites Chloe Baker and Rosalyn Torres. When he's out of town, he does a little experimenting with his sexuality. Then...
  Ceiling Child: I need you to say everyone you've ever kissed.
  Carlos: Chloe Baker, Rosalyn Torres... Colden, Jack, Joe, Jeff.
  Beat
  Ceiling Child: You were only gone for a week!
  Carlos: It was a busy week!
• Everyone calls Carlos "Carlos Perfecto" (Perfect Carlos). He starts to get used to it.
  Airport Worker: Mr. Perfecto?
  Carlos: That's Dr. Perfecto.
  Awkward silence
  Adriana: *cough* Ramirez. *cough*
  Carlos: That's what I said.
