Kat remarks that the Starless Sea reminds her a little of Rivendell. But given how long the Harbor has been around, and given how many individuals (particularly creative ones) pass through, it's entirely possible that Tolkien actually based Rivendell off of the Harbor!
Some feel that Zachary and Dorian's romance feels a bit rushed, given how little time they spend interacting and how little they really know about each other.
