Fridge / The History of the Fairchild Family

Go To

  • Fridge Horror: Consider the frightful episode where Mr. Fairchild systematically punishes Henry for refusing to learn his Latin grammar lesson, eventually flogging him and, when Henry persists in his rebellion, modelling God’s supposed withdrawal of his favor toward obstinate sinners by telling Henry that he must always obey his father and causing himself and the whole family to ostracize Henry until he repents. It apparently teaches Henry that he must never again rebel against his parents. His two older sisters appear to already have that lesson in their hearts. Could they have also learned the lesson by having been subjected to a similar punishment sometime in the past? And might such a punishment have happened to the children multiple times before the lesson was learned?
