The episode is separated into a five act narrative structure, reminiscent of a theatrical stage play. However, these five acts also follow the Kubler-Ross model of the Five Stages of Grief almost to a T:
Act One (Denial): Elliot refuses to cooperate with Vera in any fashion until he is shown Krista.
Act Two (Anger): Vera grows frustrated by Elliot's refusal to cooperate and allow Mr. Robot to join the conversation.
Act Three (Bargaining): Elliot pleads with Vera to leave Krista unharmed as she is an important figure in his life.
Act Four (Depression): Elliot is left emotionally devastated by the revelation of his father's sexual abuse.
Act Five (Acceptance): Vera confronts Elliot, telling him that his pain must not be ignored in order to use it as a weapon.
