When Jay gets the upper hand on the hunchback, he actually kills them by stabbing them repeatedly in the "back"/hump. Crossing over with Fridge Horror, we find out that Sammy was on Shel's back. Jay actually specifically went for Sammy first, and Shel only died as a result of the No Kill like Overkill Jay deployed.
