Initially, some people may be confused as to why the drivers are so obsessed with racing. But it makes sense when you consider that 1: they're doing it for a cash prize of 5 million USD, which is a LOT of money no matter who you are; 2: Tezla wants to use the Wheel of Power to solve all future energy issues(and who wouldn't want to be able to be a part of such a monumental event?); and 3: the Accelerons were exceedingly passionate about racing, so it would make sense that to discover their secrets, you'd want to bring in drivers that shared and matched that passion.
