Haru Kitajima's incarceration in a hospital. She figures out very early on that she has been imprisoned and is clearly horrified, and desperate to escape to the point of climbing out the window, whilst blind, in the rain, which results in her death. Worse still is the fact that the hospital staff disregard their duty of care to her for the sake of money.
Less horrifyingly, the staff in the hospital are treating her for tuberculosis. Though their willingness to keep Haru in the dark over Maya's acting career, by not even letting her leave the hospital to talk to some pedestrians, is no less shocking.
