  • The theme of the novel is that humanity's "oversized brains" caused nothing but trouble and that it was a blessing when evolution gave them smaller brains instead. But the narrator is a ghost, which is to say, a disembodied spirit without any physical brain at all, who is apparently nonetheless fully sapient. If you don't need any brain at all to think, why does the size of the brain even matter?
