Some readers may find it odd that Daryaei doesn't get a "last words" scene before he perishes. I think I know why:

From the scene when his residence is bombed: "Those looking very closely saw a light go on in a window, and the front door open, but no one would ever know the identity of the person who might have been attempting to leave, because both weapons fell true, struck the roof of the building, and went off a hundredth of a second later."

It was Badyran, wasn't it? The closet thing Daryaei had to a genuine comrade since his own terrorist-dictotor mentor died, the one guy who has stood by him during his whole scheme, must have known what was up as soon as he saw the building on the television and bolted.

Without any final dialogue for either of them, Clancy conveys that Daryaei's final moments were spent screaming at his intelligence chief to Come Back Here You Coward and make the problem go away, while Badyran's were spent fleeing the scene as he had done so many times before in his life, but probably knowing he wouldn't make it this time.

Damn.
