Fridge / Doctor Who S35 E9 "Sleep No More"

  • All of the Episode, up to the final credits, is edited together by Rasmussen. So, firstly, the episode ends after The Doctor and Clara leave the station (when presumably the plot actually gets tied up, off screen, given that everyone seems fine in the very next episode). Secondly, though, presumably the rapid interstitial screen between the intro section and the main part of the episode is also diegetic - but why would Rasmussen make a display of all of the names of the people present at the station, and then highlight the letters "Doctor Who" in it? Perhaps this is The Doctor's solution, and there's a second signal which counters the Brown Note effect of the episode itself?
    • Displaying the names may have been something Rasmussen did simply so the video wouldn't be too confusing for viewers to stick with. He wants them to watch it all, and viewers who keep wondering "Wait, how many soldiers are there again? Who's in charge here? Why do they keep calling that hefty one by a number instead of a name?" are likely to say to heck with it and go watch something else.
  • 474's Heroic Sacrifice seems to have been a vain one, considering that Chopra gets himself killed just minutes after she saves his life. OTOH, given that Grunts are probably conditioned to want to die saving their human comrades, and her actions got the man she had a crush on to treat her like a human being at the end, she'd most likely be pleased by the outcome regardless of how long he survived afterwards.
  • Why wouldn't they have helmet cams? The episode provides two reasons: Budget cuts, couldn't afford them. Also, given how few members their squad had (also due to budget cuts), they probably never intended or expected to get separated. No need to broadcast a live feed to one another if they're all going to stick together.
