    Fridge Brilliance

  • While it may be a case of Gameplay and Story Segregation Glover and Glover being upset by gaining notoriety for using the Ritual of Renewal to convert an infirmity to health seems silly it makes some sense why it would cause worry about their image. Even using Infirmity to beg in the streets while already possessing a well paying job could be explained away both in people not recognizing you when not dressed for your station, and even if caught some excuses would be hard to verify or dispute (say, claiming to have been mugged and not having enough on person to get home, and looking so unpresentable nobody believes you could readily pay them back). But given that people don't just lose disabilities you would have looked like you were faking it the whole time. That would make you look like a charlatan and undermine the trust that is the basis of their pedigreed reputation!
  • Why are investigators so distracted by mysticism despite it never being incriminating in itself? Real occultists covertly spread forbidden knowledge symbolically. Thus Faux Symbolism and pretention are a vexing combination of significant enough to be remiss in not investigating yet not incriminating. Every pretentious artist, publicity stunt, youth or bored worker trying to look cool, and say give exciting trappings to a small dining or drinking club could in fact be a real occultist using it as a cover. It is thus a potentially unending low priority duty until something more concrete comes up.
  • A rather more comical example, but it's no wonder the Priest doesn't have a lover-variant ascension. They did, after all, take a vow of chastity.

  • Quite a few of the ascensions involve increasing amounts of Body Horror. Yet you can go do your mundane job with nobody raising an eyebrow, even when you're 6/7ths of the way towards becoming a Long.
