Reiji and Yuko both have mental health issues. It becomes easy to understand why with Reiji (besides being stuck in a small town plus his living situation): he is a product of incest from Yuko and her father (his grandfather). If that’s the case, it’s possible that Yuko might also be a product of incest. It would make sense considering that Yuko was forced into prostitution and so was her mother.
Fridge Logic
Considering the dysfunction junction among the cast, the small town setting, Reiji being a product of incest, and bullying outsiders to the point of forcing them to leave, it makes me wonder if everyone is related and they are practicing inbreeding. Wouldn’t that explain how Chako and Shino’oka look similar and have similar circumstances?
