Go To

The Neverending Story is a series of fantasy works originally created by German writer Michael Ende. It's his best known work in the English-speaking world, with the original 1979 novel and its 1984 film adaptation being successful.

List of media:

Film
  • The NeverEnding Story (1984): A compressed adaptation of the novel directed by Wolfgang Petersen. It mostly covers the first half of the novel. Despite deviations from the novel (relatively few compared to the next movie), it was a critical success and became an Audience-Coloring Adaptation outside of Germany.invoked
  • The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter (1990): A sequel to the 1984 movie, loosely based on the second half of the novel. All characters who return from the first movie are played by different actors, with the exception of Mr. Coreander. Compared to the first, it had negative reception and became a Box Office Bomb.invoked
  • The NeverEnding Story III: Escape from Fantasia (1994): Another sequel, also known as Return to Fantasia. As the first two movies had already covered the story of the novel between them, this consists of an entirely original plot unrelated to Michael Ende's work. It recast the characters again, even Coreander this time, and received even worse reviews than Part II.
