** While Daisy and Rosalina are friendly with Princess Peach, [[VideoGame/PrincessPeachShowtime Madame Grape]] is much more hostile. While Peach never ([[VideoGame/PaperMarioTheOrigamiKing intentionally]]) seeks harm upon others, Grape is not above imprisoning and tormenting the Theets and Sparklas while distorting their own plays into tragic mockeries of their original selves. And while Peach seeks to inspire others, Grape works to deflate them, desiring only tragedy and despair. [[spoiler:Grape even reveals that she allowed Peach to rise so high in the first place to make the ensuing tragedy of her fall all the more crushing, and even outright refers to Peach as her foil just before the final battle.]]

** Ichiban Kasuga, the new protagonist from ''VideoGame/YakuzaLikeADragon'', is also a foil to Kiryu. As mentioned, Kiryu is a man who keeps his powerful emotions restrained behind his [[TheStoic stoicism]], while Kasuga wears his heart on his sleeve and is far more emotional. While Kiryu prefers to fight with GoodOldFisticuffs, Kasuga's not above using weapons such as a baseball bat. Kiryu is not very tech savvy, but while Kasuga is no computer wiz himself, he does adapt to technology a bit more readily, and is an avowed gamer who loves to name-drop ''VideoGame/DragonQuest''. Both Kiryu and Kasuga grew up as orphans, but while Kiryu's parents were murdered by the man who would later bring him into the yakuza, Kasuga is a SonOfAWhore and HeroicBastard who was Kamurocho-born and raised. The biggest contrast between them is that Kiryu is a man who tries to bear his burdens alone without being a bother to others; Kasuga, in comparison, is a man who is at his best when he has his trusted friends and allies by his side.

*** Aside from the PlayerCharacter, there is the other two professors at the Academy, Manuela and Hanneman. Both are experienced teachers, and both have a gift for magic. Outside of that, Manuela is a GeniusSlob in her private life who just can't seem to get her shit together, while Hanneman is a very tidy and efficient man in comparison.

Outside of that, Manuela is a GeniusSlob in her private life who just can't seem to get her shit together, while Hanneman is a very tidy and efficient man in comparison. They also differ in how they employ magic: Hanneman's starting class is Mage, which favors offensive Reason magic; while Manuela starts off as a Priest and favors supportive Faith magic.

*** Dimitri and Felix have known each other for a long time, and both are among the strongest warriors in the Kingdom. Where they differ is that Dimitri is much more friendly and easier to approach than the brusque and standoffish Felix. [[spoiler:That is, until the midpoint of the game. Then the dynamic is turned on its head: while Felix is still the same as he ever was, Dimitri has succumbed to SanitySlippage and has become obsessed with vengeance, as Felix had always feared.]]
