* AllowedInternalWar: Jobs deliberately tries to foster an us-versus-them mentality among the Macintosh team and does nothing when a food fight breaks out between rival product line teams at a bar. While he claims this helps motivate people into doing well, this is presented as him allowing the company to tear itself apart while Microsoft helps itself to Apple's prototype GUI, and this sort of ethos prompts Wozniak to leave the company.

* DefectorFromDecadence: Wozniak decides to leave Apple after being disgusted by all its internal strife, proclaiming he doesn't get to make jokes (i.e. have fun) anymore.

* GranolaGirl: Steve Jobs' girlfriend Arlene (who was in reality named Chrisann Brennan.)

to:

* GranolaGirl: Steve Jobs' girlfriend Arlene (who was in reality named Chrisann Brennan.)) Jobs has shades of it too; one early scene has him proclaim he only eats fruit because it's "pure" after knocking on Wozniak for eating French fries, Wozniak hints that Jobs might have spent some time in India and in some hippie communes, and throughout the film, he constantly talks about shaping history or some such like that, which is cast as being empty and cult-like rather than inspirational.

* IronicEcho: Jobs proclaims during a meeting that good artists create, but great artists steal, a sentiment Gates espouses to Balmer and other Microsoft employees when they go to see Apple's prototypes. It goes the other way too; Gates compares competing in business to being in the mafia using the proverb "keep your friends close and your enemies closer", and Jobs says something while yelling at Gates.

* MushroomSamba: Jobs goes through one when he takes acid in his hippie days.

to:

* MushroomSamba: Jobs goes through one when he takes acid in his hippie days. This gets a CallBack during the Mactinosh reveal party: during the trip, he says he feels like he's conducting classical music when he moves his body, and sure enough, during the party, he makes some conductor-like movements while throwing frisbees as the film's soundtrack plays classical music.

* OneSteveLimit: Enforced. Though three majors characters would include Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak as well as early Microsoft employee Steve Ballmer, only Jobs is ever addressed as Steve in the film - Wozniak goes by his nickname "Woz" while Ballmer goes [[LastNameBasis only by his last name]].

trope has been disambig'd

* HollywoodNerd: Gates is definitely portrayed as one, but [[YouShouldKnowThisAlready comes out on top at the end.]] The movie treats this as a conclusion, but history would show that Jobs would pilot Apple to be at least as dominate as Microsoft in the 21st century.

* SpiritualSuccessor: ''Film/TheSocialNetwork'' could be considered one for the new millennium, being about another real life InsufferableGenius who revolutionized computers. Alternately, or perhaps more appropriately, the film ''Film/SteveJobs'' could be seen as a companion film, filling in many of the gaps of this story.

* PrideBeforeAFall: Jobs and his company. At the end of the movie, he [[spoiler:has his friend walk out on him and his company, is eventually fired. Although he eventually comes back between then and the final scene he has to rely on his ''main competitor'' to stay afloat.]] Before this, he owned the hottest company in Silicon Valley, with only the sky as the limit.

Future events (between the time of filming and present day) would show Apple to become at least as successful as Microsoft. Microsoft would eventually sell their investment at a decent profit, without having exercised much control in Apple.

* ManipulativeBastard: Gates. He convinces IBM that he has software that he didn't even have (yet), and most importantly, when Jobs catches wind that he is designing Windows, he calls Gates out on software piracy, but Gates manages to convince him it's just a small side project, and towards the end of the scene, Gates praises the Apple Computer company, telling Jobs he would only get an Apple Computer for his mother. The narration in this scene lampshades Gates' behavior to hell and back.
