A 1998 Made-for-TV movie directed by John Erman that has a successful neurosurgeon (Rob Morrow) treating his former fiance (Mathilda May) as the doctor reflects on meeting her fifteen years prior.

The movie also stars Marisa Tomei, Jeroen Krabbé, Georges Corraface, Natacha Lindinger, Paul Freeman, and Jonathan Aris.

  • Actor Allusion: Similar to his role on Northern Exposure, Morrow plays a doctor, though this time he plays a neurosurgeon.
  • Anachronic Order: The movie jumps between different points of time as the story follows Heller and Silvia after their break-up.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: Silvia marries Nico as part of a deal to ensure that Heller gets surgery after he is seriously injured in Gomba and there was no hospitals in the immediate area and she begged her father for help to ensure his survival.
  • The Film of the Book: Based on the book of the same name by Erich Segal.
  • Distant Prologue: The film begins in 1981, showing Heller in surgery after being rescued in Gomba and then jumps to then-present 1998.
  • Following in Their Rescuer's Footsteps: Heller goes into neurosurgery after getting injured in Africa and being treated for a head injury.
