Last Summer (L'été dernier in French) is a 2023 French drama film directed by Catherine Breillat. It is a remake of the 2019 Danish film Dronningen.

Anne (Léa Drucker) is a brilliant 50+ year old lawyer specializing in defending victims of sexual crimes. She lives with her new husband Pierre (Olivier Rabourdin) and their daughters. Over time, Anne gradually engages in a passionate relationship with Theo (Samuel Kircher), Pierre's 17 year old son from a previous marriage who's come back from Switzerland, putting her career and family life at risk.

Last Summer provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Age-Gap Romance: Anne is over 33 years older than Theo, and they have an affair.
  • The Casanova: At the bar, Anne asks Theo about Amanda, the girlfriend he brought home who hasn't come for ten days. Theo then says "they come and go" and "sentiments are not my thing".
  • Foreign Remake: The French remake of the Danish film Dronningen.
  • Friendless Background: Theo admits to Anne that he has no friend.
  • Lecherous Stepparent: Gradually, Anne sends obvious signs to Theo and they end up having an affair, although in this case it is consensual.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Anne, a woman in her 50s, has an affair with Theo, who's 17.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Theo is addicted to his phone. He watches series on it too.
  • Second Love: Pierre and Anne are both remarried people.
  • The Slacker: Theo does nothing or plays video games instead of working for his exams.
