Bethany is a Horror Movie by James Cullen Bressack.
Claire (Stephanie Estes) and her husband Aaron (Zack Ward) are a married couple who have recently moved in to Claire's childhood home. As Aaron starts getting more work, however, Claire starts reliving traumatic memories of her mother, and remembers her old imaginary friend, Bethany. As the memories start coming more and more, Claire starts experiencing really strange things, and her sanity ends up brought into question.
The movie was released on April 7th, 2017.
Bethany contains examples of:
- Abusive Parent: Claire's mom made her take part in beauty pageants as a child, and may have shouted a lot (assuming that wasn't all in Claire's head). Oh, and she sewed a mask to Bethany's face and made her live in the walls.
- Blood from the Mouth: Dr. Brown, after Aaron cuts his throat open by accident.
- Creepy Cockroach: While eating breakfast, Claire hallucinates her cereal bowl is filled with cockroaches, which makes her throw it across the room.
- Facial Horror: At one point, when Claire looks at herself in the bathroom mirror, she sees that half her face is drooping. She starts pulling on it, causing it to come off, exposing a cracked mask-like surface underneath.
- Claire's mother had the top half of Bethany's face hidden under a mask... which she stitched to her face.
- Fingore: While Claire is playing the piano, one of her fingernails comes off when she strikes a key.
- Flashback: Claire starts having these not long after returning to her childhood home.
- It's All My Fault: Upon finding Bethany's corpse, Claire starts blaming herself for her death, remembering the eight days she and her mother spent in winter ice skating.
- Mad Woman In The Attic: Bethany.
- One-Word Title: Bethany, of course.
- The Reveal: Dr. Brown does some digging into the hospital records, and discovers that Bethany is actually Claire's sister, who was born with some deformities. Claire's mom sealed her in the walls of the house, and Claire could hear her through them communicating with her.
- Slashed Throat: When Aaron sees Bethany strangling Dr. Brown, he grabs a knife and swings it at her hands. She wasn't there, and he ended up fatally wounding Dr. Brown.
