Bronzor Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Bronzor [#436]
  • Bronzong [#437]

Appearance

Bronzor are disk-shaped pokemon, with a thick blue outer rim and a navy inner plate. Six heavy spheres the color of the inner section are embedded in the rim at equal distances; the back part of the inner plate has a herb-shaped rune, while the front portion has a simple circle around a knob made of the same blue metal as the rim. Four blue dots are placed in the circle's length, alongside two bulging yellow eyes with black pupils. Some individuals have an oxidized outer layer, making their coloration green and dark green; these are prized by collectors.

Bronzong consist of two portions: the Bell and the Yoke, both colored similarly to their prior form. The bell's lowest portion is made of a dark metal, but a decorative pattern stretches down from above in an arc (on the back) and a pair of drops (on the front). The drops surround a pair of red conical bulges, presumed to be the creature's eyes, and a line of white 'teeth' runs between them on the edge of the lowest portion. Above this pattern is a dark band that nearly encircles the bell; it bulges into a circle on the back in which is engraved the herb rune, and breaks in the middle of the front to contain two rectangular divots. A thick band of grey metal surrounds the bell's top, with a tiny point of darker metal on the front.

The yoke of the Bronzong is attached to the sides and top of the bell, with an inner arc coated by dark metal and four round points flaring from the top with dark spots on the front of each. This arc ends in dark metal bands; each band is further connected to a thick flexible band, comprised of the lighter metal but capped on each end by the darker metal.

Notable Biology

The Bronzor line is notable in that it has no biology, at least by conventional standards. All non invasive analysis has come back with the result of 'Yep, this thing's pure metal.' The Bronzong does have a thick, primitive clapper, but aside from that neither morph has any known internal organs. Microscopic scans do reveal that the molecular structure of Bronzor is actually incredibly complex, vaguely resembling a modern circuitry system though far more ornate and convoluted. The color patching on the Bronzong is a similar, more specialized network of the same type; in both morphs, the network is responsible for the psychic potential of the line, and actually lets them hover a few inches off the ground.

Interestingly, this network of molecular bonds not only provides the Bronzor line with its psychic ability, but in a large amount of the population is actually arranged to deflect excess heat away from the pokemon's body, making them essentially heatproof to a degree not found outside the Bronzor line. However, a minor misalignment can remove this ability, although it increases their levitation potential and allows them to hover higher than a few inches at a time. The alignment of molecules is incredibly delicate, as a captive population of Bronzong have had their levitation potential reduced, effectively rendering them twice as heavy as wild Bronzong; thankfully, this group is contained and a statistical minority.

Habitat

The first Bronzor were initially found in a tomb in Sinnoh, and were assumed to have been placed there alongside many bronze mirrors that resembled them. However, shortly after the Distortion World Incident (see [1]), Bronzor were reported being found in caves and caverns in Johto, and some of the formerly inert mirrors actually 'woke up', revealing that they were actually hibernating Bronzor themselves. Some Bronzor would later be located at a small shrine in Unova (although it is assumed these are the children of the Bronzong there, see Childrearing below).

Bronzong are only naturally found in the Mt. Coronet range and the strange cavern of Giratina, although they are quite common within these habitats. Psychic interviews have revealed that the Bronzong were 'placed' there to 'watch', and that they are meant to ring out when terror emerges from void. The exact meaning of this is not clear, but during the Distortion World Incident every Bronzong in Sinnoh started ringing simultaneously. A lost population of Bronzong were also found at a shrine in Unova, and observers noted that they started ringing during the region's Plasma Incident.

Diet

Bronzor and Bronzong do not need to eat; in psychic interviews they have revealed that they "consume strands of futures that are no longer," although they refuse to elaborate on what this means. It is assumed by most that this is some sort of oblique reference to the infinite universe theory.

Hazards

Bronzor and Bronzong are incredibly non-aggressive, generally only battling when either ordered by trainers or directly attacked—and even then, without any sense of urgency, as though the fight is simply not worth any concern. This attitude is well-earned; the average Bronzor is a metal disc that weighs as much as a large dog and the Bronzong is heavier than a number of dragons (and a few legendaries). Their psychic capability is also quite pronounced, oriented toward predicting possibilities which allows them to generally outhink and outmanuver their opponents. Thankfully, they are usually inert until called upon, although they may suddenly wake up if they 'feel the call of fate.'

Social Structure

Bronzor are very reliant on finding somebody, be they pokemon or human, in order to become their personal prognosticator. They will hover about caves until they are accepted by someone, at which point they devote their existence to being a cryptic adviser who typically gives visions that are drenched in visual metaphor. Whether they can actually see the future is up for debate, and it isn't helped that they claim to see many potential futures without being able to distinguish a 'true' timeline.

Bronzong, however, will usually remain in a small area, hovering around in circles as it 'observes the ebb of shadow and light in the path of time's ever fall.' On occasion, they will open up portals to unknown locations to look into, but they rarely allow these portals to remain open more than a minute. This has a side effect of altering atmospheric pressure and generating rainstorms; many old records exist of a Bronzong opening a portal specifically for this purpose, though only after being petitioned by large crowds and always under protest.

Childrearing

For a time it was assumed that neither Bronzor or Bronzong reproduced outside captivity. After the Distortion World Incident, however, wild populations of Bronzong were seen finally silencing their clappers and dropping large numbers of Bronzor out of their bells. The amount of Bronzor that emerged were far too many to realistically fit in the bell, and it was assumed for a time that they were 'hiding' in the Bronzong using dimensional portals. It wouldn't be until some time after the Plasma Incident that frequenters to the shrine in Unova that the Bronzong lived around would confirm the presence of new, never before seen Bronzor. From this it can be concluded that the Bronzor only reproduce when the world has recovered from a great threat. Why this is, or how it works, is still unknown.

Trainer's Notes

Bronzor and Bronzong will want to advise you, but will not offer advice unless asked. Consult them regularly for their mental health; they will become depressed if they are not able to predict your future, and even if their advice is cryptic and unhelpful it can come in handy sometimes.

In Human Society

The Bronzor line was created at some point in the distant past by a great empire, who used their abilities specifically to predict the future before vanishing. This much has been confirmed by the Bronzong themselves, although exactly when the empire existed or how it fell is still unknown. The Herb symbol on the back, however, apparently was something of a religious sign to their makers, and the Bronzor were revered for their ability. It is believed that the Bronzor were even able to reflect the image of possible futures on their surface.

Nowadays, however, the Bronzor line is a relic of a long-forgotten age. While archaeologists will be interested whenever a Bronzor or Bronzong is found outside Sinnoh, most of modern society has moved on and consider the line to be merely 'cool artifacts from the past.' There are stories where the Bronzor advises both heroes and villains, one of the most famous being about an evil queen, a princess, and seven Sableye, but these are generally merely children's stories. However, there is a modern depiction of a Bronzong owned by a time-travelling alien in an impossible blue box.
