What If Bei The Blood Moon Was a New Mutant is another hyperspecific fanfiction written by Maksvell on Archive of Our Own. It currently stands at six chapters and is a retelling of Marvel OGN Number 4, but with the added twist of Bei the Blood Moon appearing in the nineteen eighties rather than in the 2019 crossover X of Swords. Other than that, it is mostly accurate to the original first appearance of the New Mutants, but with a level of graphic violence that's unparalleled.

When you look out at the vast orrery of worlds, you begin to think of some odd trends. The year was 1982, and a man had a dream. This man was Charles Xavier, having suffered the loss of his students James Proudstar and Jean Grey within a year of one another the flame of his dream began to dim. It grew even smaller when not a few months after Jean’s death, his X-Men disappeared in space, presumed killed by the parasitic alien race known to the cosmos as The Brood. So, to keep some spark of his dream alive, he set out to recruit New Mutants. But, this is not that story. Here we shall ponder the question, “What If Bei The Blood Moon was a New Mutant?”

• This is the fundamental premise of the entire fanfiction. A young Bei The Blood Moon appears living in a cave in Colorado and gets picked up by Charles Xavier after she murders the men who killed Dani Moonstar's grandfather.
