What if Zelda and Ganondorf traded triforce pieces?

The Legend of Zelda: The Fall of Hyrule is a fanfiction based on the legend of Zelda series. In it, the goddess has Zelda inherit the triforce of power while Ganondorf gains the triforce of wisdom. The result of this swap has Zelda become a coldhearted tyrant. Now Link and Ganondorf must work together to stop her.

The story can be read on Wattpad.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Heroism: Thanks to being given the triforce of wisdom, Ganondorf ends up undergoing a Heel–Face Turn and becomes a benevolent individual who believs in peace. A farcry from what he is like in any of the games.
  • Adaptational Villainy: As opposed to the pure and innocent princess she is canonically, Zelda is a heartless tyrant in this story.
  • The Corruption: The Triforce of Power essentially turns its holder into a power hungry tyrant, as opposed to simply granting them power like in the games.
  • Doomed by Canon: This fanfic is established to take place between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. Given how Ganondorf is still evil in the latter, it is clear that he isn't going to be keeping his goodness by the end of this.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: When Zelda's plan to kill her father starts going into effect, she contemplates protecting Link by pinning the blame on somebody else, even defending him while they are on the run. Subverted later on when she straight up tells the guards that Link is responsible.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Zelda is established to be a heartless individual in this story to the point that she has Link murder her father so that she can become queen a year early. She even makes it clear her intention to bring the world to ruin.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Ganondorf may come off as hotblooded for a few chapters, but he genuinely cares for the wellbeing of the Gerudo and is very much protective of Link.
  • One-Winged Angel: Zelda takes on a more sinister form in her battle against Link in the final chapter.
  • Poisoned Weapons: Zelda forces Link to kill her father using poisoned arrows.
  • Self-Made Orphan: In order to claim the throne early, Zelda forces Link to kill her father during a speech.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: In an effort to correct their mistake, the sages seal away Ganondorf while giving him back the triforce of power while returning the triforce of wisdom to Zelda.
  • Status Quo Is God: The goddess chose to swap the triforces of Zelda and Ganondorf in an attempt to stop the latter from causing destruction. While this does make Ganondorf more benevolent, it causes Zelda to become absolutely wicked. By the end, it is deemed necessary to put their triforce back into their proper hosts.
