The Cold War is a The Saga of Tanya the Evil continuation fanfic of A Young Woman's Political Record written by Embrace_goto_statements.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • 0% Approval Rating: Paul was already rather divisive when he first took office as President of Germania, and people only soured on him as time went on. By the time he flees from office, the only people not out for his head are his security staff.
  • The All-Solving Hammer: Paul neglects Germania's military as he believes that any threat can be answered with nuclear weapons.
  • Category Traitor: The rest of the CSR's leadership consider Zhang Wentian as this, as he is willing to deal or compromise with foreign powers. To them, this dilutes their cause.
  • The Creon: Elya is one of the most powerful people in all of OZEV, being the head of the most effective intelligence agency on the continent, the unseen hand in the political scene with four parties under her direct control and a capable mage in her own right. She could run Germania herself if she so fancied, but all she wishes is to support her best friend and help her boss realize her vision for the country.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: The CSR mage researchers get a random lookalike to pretend to be Yang Huimin so that they can keep Chen Shusheng relatively docile as they experiment on him.
  • Exact Words: The South Bharati government gave their word to Paul's administration that neither their prime minister nor the defense minister would meet with Tanya when the latter came to visit the country. They don't and send another official empowered to do so in their stead.
  • The Fundamentalist: Li Lisan is so extreme that his peers get him arrested and out of the way before he can strike at them for thinking differently.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The CSR continues to experiment on their enhanced mages, which really does improve their magical performance but also gets them to hate on the institution that locked them away and treats them as lab rats. When pushed to the breaking point, the mages break out, kill their captors and scatter. Kang mentions that the force deployed to recapture the escapees suffered considerable losses, seventy five percent percent of them dead, and there are still a number of them loose.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Georg Eschenbach after he learns that the North Bharati fortress he ordered an airstrike on contained civilians.
  • The Scapegoat: The Albish admiralty board lays all the fault of the botched Shanghai operation on Green, who is demoted again and drummed out of the military. Tanya gets him a job offer from one of Germania's aerial lacrosse teams.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Tanya's confrontation with South Bharat's Minister of Home Affairs is basically Bane's last meeting with Daggett in The Dark Knight Rises.
    • The airstrike and the aftermath in chapter 8 is inspired by the napalm scene from Spec Ops: The Line.
  • Ultimate Job Security: Even after Paul has replaced as much of Tanya's appointments and supporters across Germania's various offices, Elya remains the head of the BND despite being a very vocal Degurechaff loyalist. Lergen suspects it's because there isn't anyone else nearly as capable to place as the head of the country's intelligence service.
  • Universally Beloved Leader: Most of Germania likes having Tanya in charge. When she voluntarily stepped down despite the fact that she could've easily won the next election, the people wish she stayed as their leader. When she gets arrested because of Paul's new security law, the entire nation is up in arms to get him out of office and her back in.
