Chloé Bourgeois received a miraculous of Creation! Be in awe, citizens of Paris: now Scarlet Lady herself will protect you from evil! Will she be able to become a heroine? How Chat Noir will work together with such a partner? What about Marinette? What will happen to Paris?
This is Role Swap AU where Marinette and Chloe swap kwamis. Story focuses mainly on Chloe, Adrien, and Adrienette.
Selfish girl and Miraculouses contains examples of:
- Anti-Hero: As expected, Chloe makes an awful Ladybug: very lazy and irresponsible "heroine" who is not willing to risk breaking her nail and leaves all the hard work of fighting akumas to Chat Noir, showing up only to use Miraculous Cure and take all the credit.
- Being the Hero Sucks: Adrien thought superhero life would be great fun, just like in the comics. Then it turns out his Alpha Bitch partner never bothers to help in battle, yet takes all the glory and gets praised as the only superhero of Paris. And he gets called a useless sidekick and receives bruises as a gratitude.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Adrien is much less tolerant towards people like Chloe and Lila because he has experienced a lot of shit as Chat Noir.
- Big Damn Heroes: When Chat Noir fails in a fight against a particularly powerful opponent, it is up to Marinette wielding the Bee miraculous to save the day.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Only Chat and Marinette saw the true colors of Scarlet Lady. The rest of Paris adores her since she knows how to charm the public, "saves" the city and spends a lot of time giving interviews and flashing in media.
- Character Development: In the first half of the story Chloe is canonically awful, but after experiencing a Matter of Life and Death situation and suffering a breakdown, she starts to change in a slow and convincing way.
- Dramatic Irony: Chloe passes Master Fu`s character test thanks to a good mood and certain circumstances. So he thinks she would make a great heroine and rewards her with miraculous, making the second biggest mistake in his life...
- Freak Out: When Scarlet Lady sees Chat badly beaten and barely alive, she is really shocked and even feels remorse. Only then she realizes that relying on Chat completely and never participating in the battles was a bad, very bad idea.
- Heroic BSoD: Chat Noir has one after the Volpina incident. His hope for finally getting a good competent partner has been crushed, and it affects him so hard that he seriously considers retirement.
- Romance Arc: Adrien and Marinette slowly develop relationships that are significantly more healthy than in canon: no stalking, no unwanted advances, but mutual respect and affection.
- Spiritual Antithesis: Scarlet Lady to this story. They have the same premise - Chloe receiving the ladybug miraculous - but in SL Chloe only gets worse and worse, while here, she eventually starts a redemption arc.
