A Steven Universe Alternate Universe in which Steven is still raised by two gems who don't get along and a permafusion— but who these gems are is different. Pearl and Amethyst are the gems close enough to always stay fused as Opal, and Ruby and Sapphire are the Crystal Gems whose opposing personalities means they annoy each other more often than not, and rarely agree for long enough to fuse into Garnet.
Opal, Sapphire, Ruby, and STEVEN! takes place in this 'verse.
Tropes usually used in the AU include:
- Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Opal is usually still this, but sometimes she only has one set of arms to reflect how she's more stable than in canon, and Garnet is instead the one who has four arms.
- Shipping: In-Universe, Pearlmethyst is implied by the AU's parameters, while Rupphire is no longer an Official Couple.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Ruby and Sapphire, usually. They bicker and don't get along much, but they are still friends nevertheless.
