Flowers Burn in the Summertime
is an ongoing OMORI fanfic by cosmicnursery. It takes place after the good ending, except Sunny's mother let him stay at Basil's house in Faraway for the summer, and Sunny and Basil start dating.
The story's perspective alternates between Sunny's, as he explores his changed relationships with his childhood friends; and Kel's, as he works out his unrequited crush on Sunny.
This fic provides examples of:
- The Gadfly: Aubrey fibs to Kel that his nose is bleeding, just for laughs.
- Love Triangle: The story begins with Sunny and Basil being in love, and Kel being in love with Sunny. However, it's implied that Basil's and Kel's roles will soon be swapped.
- Second Love: Kel is slated to become Sunny's new boyfriend, if the "Endgame Suntan" tag is of any indication.
- Sir Swears-a-Lot: Aubrey makes strong swears rather frequently in casual conversation.
- There Are No Therapists: Averted, unlike the original game; Polly mentioned to Basil's friends that he's seeing a therapist over the abandonment issues that drove him to fake Mari's suicide.
