Excuses... Excuses...
is a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfic by pertelote345. It's an Applejack/Twilight fic.
The story starts with Applejack going through old papers of hers. When she sees something from her foalhood, it brings back bad memories. She visits Rarity for comfort because Rarity knows the most about her past. Rarity tells her that she's making excuses and she needs to move on with her life.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Adaptational Gender Identity: Applejack is a trans mare, and this informs a lot of the fic's plot.
- Adaptational Sexuality: Twilight comes to realise that she is bisexual.
- Childhood Friends: Downplayed with Applejack and Rarity. They've known each others since they were foals but they weren't on friendly terms until adulthood.
- Coming-Out Story: It's both one for Applejack coming out as trans and Twilight coming out as bisexual.
- Delayed Reaction: Twilight only realizes that she's bisexual after having already gone on a date with Applejack. It took a while for her mind to note that dating Applejack suggests she likes mares.
- Easy Sex Change: Ponies transition using magic, however it can't give you the ability to get pregnant or impregnate others.
- Hold Your Hippogriffs: There are several puns, such as "out of the stable ".
- Oh, My Gods!:
- Played for Laughs when Cadance, being Celestia and Luna's niece, uses "oh my sweet aunts".
- In general, ponies use either the two sister's names (sometimes shortened to just "sisters") or they'll use "gods".
- Older Than They Look: Twilight is older than Applejack, but she's more immature due to her personality and sheltered background.
- Parental Sexuality Squick: Big Macintosh and Twilight get uncomfortable when Granny Smith talks about her past marefriends. It gets worse when she gives away Too Much Information.
- Younger Than They Look: Applejack is younger than Twilight. Applejack's maturity makes her seem older.
