Death Note: Blank Pages is a For Want Of A Nail fanfiction, written and created by The Stranger That Came From Nowhere.

The premise of the story is that Light stands on a more moral high ground, compared to the manga and is much smarter than usual because of this. It doesn't take long for things to become FUBAR, however, when Misa Amane, who's obtained the Death Note much earlier in canon, kills Lind L. Tailor when he slanders Kira's name and alerts L.

The author has promised a significant amount of changes, but so far, the story is still in its infancy.

This page needs some wiki magic love!

This page contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Misa Amane doesn't appear in the series until Chapter 24 and Episode 11. She appears much earlier in the story, and in the third chapter no less, which details how she obtained the Death Note and learned about Kira, as well as her mental state following the court deeming the man who murdered her parents to be innocent.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Light Yagami. While he's still pursuing the path of Kira, he's going about it in a much more lighter way than he did in the original series. He makes it clear that he won't target innocent people unless he absolutely has to, and didn't have any desire to kill Lind L. Tailor when he publicly denounced his actions.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: If you can believe it to be possible, Light is smarter here. He learned he could control the time of death and manipulate a person's actions leading up to their death before he met Ryuk during his first week as Kira. As supported in the narration, Light's managed to kill over a thousand criminals within two weeks!
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Misa, for a minor note. In the series, she was otherwise indifferent to his sacrifice, only surprised and never thinking anything of it after learning it. Here, she openly cries and apologies to Rem for taking away her friend. It's very touching.
  • Admiring the Abomination: Misa's first words when she sees Rem, an inhuman creature that showed up in her room out of nowhere? She calls her pretty. Even Rem notes that it's unusual for someone to say that.
  • Ambiguous Situation: When Light initially plans to destroy the Death Note, out of fear that it may come into someone else's possession and kill someone, he has a brief flashback, staring at a man who's walking out a room with a smile on his face, while his father has to hold an enraged Sayu back. It hasn't been clarified what is happening in this scene, but it is implied to have something to do with Light's distrust with the flawed justice system.
  • Anti-Hero: Light, as usual. Has a slightly better standing on the hero portion, as he won't target innocent people unless he's forced to.
  • Fatal Flaw: As part of his characterization, Light realizes that he can't be perfect if he's killed someone. It doesn't stop him from pursuing his actions as Kira, however.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: What Light accepts has happened. As part of his more "humanized" characterization, Light fully understands his flaws and accepts that he has killed people, making him a murderer in the eyes of society. For an unexplained event in his past, however, Light continues to use the Death Note, rather than destroy it as he initially wanted to do.
  • Inherent in the System: What is implied to be the reason why Light resolves to continue using the Death Note. He's confirmed that the justice system is flawed and is exploited for personal gain, but in a brief flashback, Light's staring at a man who's walking out a room while his father is holding an enraged Sayu back, all the while Light sees a smirk on the man's face.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite Light not wanting to kill Lind L. Tailor, as he is slightly more moral, his actions in slandering Kira on live television leads an enraged Misa to kill him with the Death Note. To make matter's worse, Misa was in the Kanto area, meaning she was the one who tipped L off where Kira was living and confirmed that Kira is an actual person capable of killing someone with a heart attack.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: According to Rem, the concept of "love" is very different for Shinigami, but doesn't clarify. It's ambiguous if Gelus' affections for Misa were romantic or something else.
