A Sprout to a Better Path provides examples of:
- Character Development: When Pipp Petals breaks down crying in the aftermath of the chaotic heist of the Pegasus Crystal (during which the royal family's inability to fly and the related deception gets exposed, angering their subjects). Sprout starts to feel some sympathy for her but stops just short of wanting to comfort her.
- Point of Divergence: Since Sprout accompanies Hitch in his pursuit of Sunny and Izzy, he won't become power mad and declare himself Emperor.
- The Resenter: Like in the canon film, Sprout resents Hitch for being more good-looking, heroic, and competent than him and getting the job of sheriff that Sprout had dreamed up attaining since he was a colt. Sprout especially hates when other ponies always ask him where Hitch is whenever a problem comes up, not yet recognizing that this is due to him being lazy and cowardly.
