Fanfic / A Conduit's Light

Go To

A Conduit's Light is a crossover between In Famous Second Son and The Owl House, where Luz is a Making a Splash Conduit that fought in Seattle with Delsin.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Luz is a Conduit in this AU, having Making a Splash powers, and is a veteran of what happened in Seattle. She's also much stronger than in canon.
    • Masha is also a Conduit with Casting a Shadow powers.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • In The Owl House, Jacob Hopkins is a Conspiracy Theorist who has a lot of wild theories about demons and witches (which most other humans don't believe exist), his status as an antagonist a result of him being more laughably stupid than genuinely malicious. Here, he actually tried to bomb a Conduit outreach center and was arrested for it.
    • In canon, it's implied that Camp Reality Check was just a regular summer camp marketed to help tame unruly children. Here, it's implied that it was a conversion camp that preyed upon conduit children. By the time the fic starts, Principal Hal is arrested because he had sent conduit children for "conduit curing".
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: "Conduit curing" is the belief that the conduit gene can be literally tortured out of a person, and is something that is only practiced by ultra-religious people and people who just hate conduits in general.
  • Covered in Scars: When Luz wakes up in the first chapter, we see that she has a collection of small scars from knives and gunshots.
  • Decomposite Character: There is mention of an attempted domestic terrorist trying to bomb a conduit outreach center who rambled on about "aliens and time machines", a description that would imply it to be Jacob Hopkins, Conspiracy Theorist from The Owl House who believed that demons are from Mars. Then it's revealed that an Officer Hopkins in this continuity was a Bigot with a Badge who expressed Fantastic Racism towards conduits, having lost his badge after a heated harassment campaign towards the Nocedas because of Luz's conduit status, the author later clarifying in comments that he and Jacob are relatives.
  • Fantastic Slur: "Bioterrorist" is considered a slur at this point, and apparently using it can carry criminal charges if the tags are to be believed.
  • Making a Splash: Luz in this AU is a Conduit with water powers.
  • Mundane Utility: At one point Masha uses their Casting a Shadow powers to hitch a ride to school in Luz's shadow.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: At some point Salem and her followers, the "Wicca Coven", managed to gain enough influence to force Belos to allow them to practice any kind of magic they want.
  • Sigil Spam: After the events of Second Son, Delsin's signature (a two-headed red and blue bird) had since become a universal symbol for equal rights for conduits, Luz and Masha both possessing jewelry depicting it.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Salem is implied to be one, paying a Witch to attack Luz with a staff that drained some of her Ray Energy in order to find a suitable heiress for the Saint/Cole, even letting out an apology when given said staff.
  • What If?: The presence of Conduits, and Luz being one, causes some notable changes to things.
    • Luz was involved in the events of Second Son, personally knowing Delsin. Eda was also there as well, Luz knowing her well before she canonically came to the Boiling Isles.
    • Luz is still on Earth when Vee escapes the Isles, and she and Camila find the basilisk in her true form.
    • Camila comes with on the mission to recover King’s crown.
    • Someone named Salem in the Demon Realm has a Witch attack Luz and use a special staff to drain some of her Ray Energy, apparently to find a successor for Cole.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Conduit abilities are different from magic, but Conduits are still unable to pass through the barrier in the contraband room. Word of God says that this is because the barrier mistook Luz's Ray Energy as magic.
