Mercenaries of Fortune
is a fanfiction by BlackTyrantValvatorez that initially starts off during the month of May in Persona 3, but the setting is Inaba from Persona 4. After the first chapter, the time fast forwards to the beginning of Persona 4, when Yu Narukami has just arrived in town. The story is only in it's first ten chapters right now, so there's not too much information.
Mercenaries of Fortune provide examples of:
- The Cameo: Sakahagi And Futomimi show up in the eighth chapter.
- Call-Back: There are a few references to Persona 3, such as a minor conversation in the fifth chapter that refers to the Kirijo Group lab explosion that killed Yukari's father.
- Official Couple: Character pairings mostly take a back-seat to what is happening, but Saki and Yosuke are one.
- Shout-Out: There's a few of these in here:
- In the sixth chapter, Takaya Sakaki is asked if he remembered a conversation that had occurred in the second chapter. When he says that he remembered, The Reaper? immediately tells him that he lied.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Saki Konishi, a minor character who died in the original game, is spared in this story, but she doesn't join the Investigation Team initially due to having her psyche eaten by a Shadow, inflicting her with Apathy Syndrome.
- Takeharu Kirijo is also alive, but he retired as leader of the Kirijo Group.
- You Can't Thwart Stage One: The Investigation Team is not able to act until the killer makes a move, which is something that doesn't apply to a squadron of mercenaries plus someone from Persona 3.
- Your Head A-Splode: In a flashback, this is how Shuji Ikutsuki dies. Justified since he was hit in the head by a bullet fired from a .50 cal sniper rifle.
