  • In Toy Story 3, Lotso the Hugging Bear obviously never expected Woody to return to The Alcatraz to help his friends after he safely escaped, or for Ken to choose Barbie over him. He also can't fathom Buzz's loyalty to his friends after the latter declined Lotso's offer to join the Butterfly Room without his friends. Word of God has described Lotso as someone who, after his Start of Darkness, believes that Love Is a Weakness, and The Power of Friendship is what enables Woody to get back and help his friends. Plus, while both Woody and Lotso are the leaders of a "family" of toys, Lotso keeps his own in line via coercion and outright violence if they're not in compliance.
  • The Incredibles
    • The Incredibles: Syndrome hopes to use his Engineered Heroics scam to bask in public glory by faking a threat only he could stop, unaware it takes real qualities like self-sacrifice and morality to be a real hero, something which Mr. Incredible calls him out on. Flashbacks show that he had these qualities even when he tried becoming Mr. Incredible's sidekick, believing that the older hero rejected his bid as he lacked superpowers, when in reality, he was too impulsive and almost killed himself trying to help. As a Child Prodigy, Syndrome could have forged his own path as a Gadgeteer Genius Science Hero like Batman, but chose to use it for petty revenge.
      • Syndrome also goads Mr. Incredible into following through his threat on crushing his assistant Mirage, and when Mr. Incredible dejectedly drops her, Syndrome states he knew couldn't do it because the fiend believes that Virtue Is Weakness. Later when Mirage calls Syndrome out, he casually "reassures" her that he called Mr. Incredible's bluff because he knew that the latter was "weak" and wouldn't have it in him to kill her. He's left dumbfounded and completely confused when she storms out on him for that response.
    • Incredibles 2:
      • Rick Dicker notes that cynical politicians have difficulty believing that somebody would do good solely for the sake of doing good, and comments that this is probably why heroes are still illegal. Keeping in mind that is likely around the early '60s and with likely a Cold War happening, this makes Rick's observations more poignant.
      • Evelyn Deavor believed her brother Winston would fall in line with her plan once she tried to save them from the yacht. Instead, he jumps off the escape jet and actively heads to foil her plan as best he can.
  • Coco: Ernesto de la Cruz couldn't understand why his friend Hector would want to give up a chance at fame to go home to his family, since all Ernesto himself cared about was fame. And so, he murdered him and stole his songs out of pure greed.
  • Cars: At the end of the movie, Chick Hicks is completely blown away when everyone begins booing him after he wins the race. The fact he only won because he caused beloved racer Strip "The King" Weathers to suffer a brutal crash seems to slip his mind or, at least, he doesn't see why people would care about it.
