Death By Adaptation / The Weirwood Queen

Go To

As The Weirwood Queen is an AU, plenty of canon deaths have been changed to reflect the plot.

Some of the more notable deaths include:

  • Petyr Baelish is stabbed to death in a brothel.
  • Tyrek Lannister, whose fate in the canon bread riot was ambiguous, is confirmed dead by the author.
  • Tyrion and Lancel Lannister die in the Battle of the Blackwater.
  • Walder Frey is killed by Catelyn Stark at the Red Wedding.
  • Gregor Clegane, who may or may not be alive in canon, is very much dead here.
  • The canon "High Sparrow" is trampled by Lyn Corbray on horseback during a protest at Tywin's funeral.
  • Jeyne Westerling dies of winter fever (pneumonia).
  • Jorah Mormont gets his throat cut by a Sex Slave he bought as a Replacement Goldfish for Daenerys.
  • Nearly all of the members of the Great Master families over the age of thirteen are worked to death demolishing their own pyramids. During this process, Daenerys's former cupbearer Jezhene is snatched off a pyramid and eaten by Drogon.
  • Jon Connington is killed by Barristan Selmy while trying to kill Olyvar.
  • Edric Storm is never sent to Lys and dies in the Lannister siege of Storm's End.
  • Mance Rayder freezes to death beyond the Wall.
  • Alliser Thorne dies in an autumn storm while trying to ship a wight to King's Landing.
  • Doran Martell succumbs to gout complications.
  • Daario Naharis is executed by burning after trying to abduct Missandei and defect to Tyrosh with the Stormcrows.
  • Yohn Royce dies of a heart attack while at the Wall.
  • Selyse Baratheon, Davos Seaworth, and Stannis Baratheon are all burned as human sacrifices at the Wall. Melisandre gets devoured by the shadow dragon that results from Stannis's death.
  • Drogon is poisoned by sweetsleep after he eats another child and Daenerys concludes he is too dangerous to live.
  • Daven, Damion, and Lucion Lannister are all killed in smallfolk rebellions in the Westerlands, as are Flement Brax and his wife Morya Frey. Meanwhile, Kevan's daughter Janei dies of a pox.
  • Mace Tyrell is murdered by sellswords hired for Cersei by Qyburn during a masked ball held in the Red Keep.
  • Cersei has Varys killed after she figures out he was behind Jaime's disappearance and downplaying the potential threat Daenerys posed.
  • Bonifer Hasty is murdered by Randyll Tarly when the latter attacks the smallfolk petitioning Tommen.
  • Rhaegal breaks Victarion Greyjoy's neck.
  • Leyton and Malora Hightower die trying to defend Oldtown from Euron. Septon Torbert, now one of the schismatic High Septons, and most if not all of the archmaesters die when Euron destroys the Starry Sept and the Citadel.
  • Jojen Reed sacrifices himself to save Bran and the Children of the Forest from Bloodraven's control.
  • Bowen Marsh dies of heart failure soon after Jon strongly suggests he resign his post as First Steward of the Night's Watch.
  • Euron Greyjoy and Rhaegal die in the Third Battle over the God's Eye at the hands of Olyvar/Aegon and Viserion.
  • Trystane Martell and Myrcella Baratheon are killed by a wildfire-trapped "gift" from Cersei.
  • Randyll Tarly dies at the Battle of Bitter Winds outside of Duskendale. He's trampled by his own men, and Loras Tyrell delivers him the Mercy Kill.
  • The remaining Dornish delegation in King's Landing - including Harmen and Ulwyck Uller, Larra Blackmont, and Arron Qorgyle - are executed on Tommen's reluctant orders due to their attempt to escape King's Landing and their subsequent insistence on Aegon's right to the throne and Tommen's bastard birth. Earlier, Dagos Manwoody suffered a heart attack as he was about to be tortured by Qyburn, Tremond Gargalen was killed in the Masked Massacre, and Myles Manwoody died of the grippe.
  • Addam Marbrand meets his end protecting Tommen from his mother Cersei.
  • Tommen Baratheon is accidentally impaled upon the Iron Throne by his mother Cersei after Tommen discovers what happened to Myrcella. While he's revived by Qyburn on Cersei's orders, his necromanced corpse ends up being put to rest when the Red Keep explodes via wildfire.
  • Balon Swann gets killed by Jaime when Balon tries to apprehend him and Cersei during their escape from King's Landing.
  • Subverted by Qyburn. While Bel does stab him to death, he lasts long enough to revive himself using his elixirs in a similar way to how he brought back Tommen and Ser Addam. Double subverted when he is drawn and quartered as punishment for his tortures and murders, with the aftereffects of his elixir only prolonging his suffering.
  • Chataya dies of smoke inhalation after getting her girls out of her burning brothel.
  • Other victims of the wildfire in King's Landing include Luceon Frey, Lyle and Tybolt Crakehall, Ilyn Payne, and Ardrian Celtigar. Dickon Tarly is killed by a structural collapse when trying to find his sister in the ruins of the Red Keep.
  • Maester Colemon dies of a "burst belly" while stranded in the Eyrie.
  • Othell Yarwyck is brained by a hailstone.
  • Mors Umber kills Tormund Giantsbane in trial by combat for the kidnapping and rape of Drynelle Umber; it's implied that Jon persuaded Tormund to throw the fight.
  • Lyn Corbray dies at the hands of Brienne of Tarth after falling for Arya's sting operation and trying to assassinate Sansa.
  • Martyn Lannister gets stabbed through the heart by his cousin Jaime when the latter attempts to escape Casterly Rock.
  • Jaime Lannister dies after he strangles Cersei and she brains him with a rock to defend herself, while Cersei herself dies shortly afterward because the trauma to her throat caused her to asphyxiate.
