Darth Wiki / Complain About Shows You Don't Like Discussion

Go To

Pity it's no more.

So how come this was cut but the gushing page is still allowed?

Charred Knight: I have seen two reasons, one is that people used it to lash out against anything they didn't like (Atheist vs Religion debacle), and two was that people didn't like seeing their favorite series being insulted.

Fast Eddie: That's it, basically. The thing that tipped the scales were racial slurs. No tolerance for those. The general tone of negativity was also an issue. We don't want TV Tropes associated with it. As for Sugar Wiki, the slurs and negativity haven't cropped up there and being associated with positivity isn't such a bad thing.

Bob: The way I see it is that people forgot that the Darth Wiki is supposed to be Just for Fun. The sheer massive amount of Internet Backdraft wasn't funny. It was just sad, in a pathetic kind of way.

"The Darth Wiki section is for fun things that are the inverse of the wiki's mission. It is Just for Fun, thoughts from the Dark Side of the hivemind."

Charred Knight: I knew we would have problems as soon as people started a holy war in this page.

Prefers to Remain Anon: Uh guys, first of all, why wasn't this cutlisted? Even The Other Wiki gives some advance notice so people can stick up for a page slated for deletion. Do you want to get known as more "trigger happy" than Jimbo Wales and the "Notability Uber Alles" squad? Second, if there were racial slurs on this page they must have been very recent (< 24 hours as of 27 Dec 08), because I've checked this page daily for some time now and haven't seen any racist remarks. Third, if that was the main problem, why not just delete those remarks? Come on, the page was fun. It was cathartic. So what if some people got butthurt because one person said they didn't like Questionable Content or Neo Genesis Genki Genki Anime Land or whatever. Don't be such a bunch of killjoys. Just delete the outright offensive stuff and let us have our fun.

Pro-Mole: Thing is, they were editing. The bad news is that it never stopped the racial slurs from appearing. So, they decided to simply delete the page. What I resent for, this was a good page, indeed, with some acid comments et cetera, some flame wars on the most popular topics, but at least it was confined to here. And there was a threshold clearly set to separate "mildly" from "definitely" offensive.

But bah. Let's find some other fun stuff to do, then...

Charred Knight: I would prefer if the actual page mentioned that we where simply to immature to use this. The page right now makes it look like it was a bad page that no one wanted, while it was actually heavily used, its just that way too many people used the page to post some stuff that was just awful.

Pro-Mole: I think someone will have to create a "This Is A Wiki" page, won't it? Cool, can't edit. Let's make this a petition, then!

Smokie: Too bad it's down now, I found it to be quite fun. But I agree, this whole insulting-stuff was just ridiculous.

  • Ray Ayanami: Had this page gone on longer, I'd be on my way to becoming a cranky, rage-filled nerd for years to come.
    • Radioactive Zombie - I AM a rage filled nerd already.
    • triassicranger: I'd like to say we have a similar thread over on a forum I go on, and there isn't any need for nerd rage there. I also find it a bit funny that the forum I go on concerns a little kids tv show yet here we are fans of programming aimed that older audiences and we've had to pull the page. Does this say something about the maturity of fandoms (or should I say Fan Dumbs)?

Pro-Mole: Hm... I feel compelled to point out that, now that this page was put down and Gushing About Shows You Like is still up, we have created a clear unbalance on the topic of subjective commentary about media. I wonder how that might end...
  • Smokie: Yet I don't see how lying more on the positive "praising" side rather than the snarky critic is bad.
    • The snarky critic may occasionally have a point to be made. The gushing fanboy often does not. The problem is letting both sides hear each other out, because most would sooner stick their fingers in their ears then actually reason why they like or dislike something. In fact, deleting this page is more like sticking your fingers in everyone's ears for them.

Big Yawn: Wait, so a few people call each other Nig-nogs and it's all over? You've gone soft, Tropes.

triassicranger: Please elaborate Big Yawn, how the site has gone soft. You're not trying to say that racial slurs are accepable are you?

Carcinos: I think he's expressing disapproval of the fact that the Powers That Be chose to burn down the house to get rid of the roaches, so to speak.

  • Big Yawn: Yes, that. One or two off-colour comments should not be grounds for a full wipe. Pages like this one must be monitored very carefully; the troll to genuine post ratio in these parts is very, very close.

Radioactive Zombie - Only mines were In the Style of Encyclopedia Dramatica. Yeah, I kept it off, but the ones I saw were just random "black people" or "nigger" jokes out of nowhere...

And I suspect the amount of potholed Take That! links will increase.

You suspect Take That! articles will be on the loose in TV Tropes? Let's get to work, boys. We have criminals to catch.

Prefers to Remain Anon: I just found the page one night and saved it after reading some good points, but when I opened it up the next day it was all gone. I hadn't even read half of it. To be honest, I'd much rather read people make fun of absolutely every fandom I love like Harry Potter, Dark Knight, Narnia, X-Men—WHATEVER, than have to read people actually gushing about the Twilight series. I'm prejudiced, I know... but I prefer it that way. Why would they delete the page right when it could've become my drug?
