It's also the current company which owns ''Literature/MrMen'' and ''Little Misses'' series. This really did happen, and i am putting it on the page because i am confident that this was a real thing that existed.

Added DiffLines:

* BlackfaceStyleCaricature: Unfortunately, three series that were created in the 1980's fit under this trope. These are Sambo and Hannah, Bibinba, and Boonchuka. All of them being black characters with black or brown skin and thick lips that are either red or pink. [[https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1989-11-15-fi-1758-story.html Shortly after these characters were introduced, activists had called them complaining about the discriminatory designs. After Sanrio heard these complaints, production of any media or merchandise involving them ended and they are no longer officially acknowledged in any way.]]

** Sanrio and Creator/NitroPlus started working together in 2020 to develop the "Wanpaku! Touken Ranbu" design project, which saw all of the VideoGame/ToukenRanbu characters—including Konnosuke—redesigned into adorable, SuperDeformed art styles. The finished products were then produced as merchandise and offered for sale in pop-up stores all over Japan. This collaboration is different from the ones mentioned above in a few ways, as it only focuses on the Touken Ranbu cast and doesn't include any characters from the actual Sanrio brand. Additionally, this project has been going on for years, with new Touken Danshi redesigns being introduced in waves. An anime adaptation for the project was also announced in 2024.
