Rafik Schami (born on 23 July 1946 in Damascus) is a Syrian-German author. He emigrated to Germany in 1971. He married a German woman and has the dual citizenship. Today he writes mostly in German and is one of Germany's most influential and well read authors.
Rafik Schami is not actually his name; it's a pseudonym meaning "Friend/Comrade from Damascus/the Levant"; his actual name is Suheil Fadél.
