William Lindsey Erwin (December 2, 1914- December 29, 2010) was an American character actor. In a career lasting nearly 70 years, he played over 250 roles. He appeared in numerous John Hughes films, including Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Home Alone. Among his best known roles were Arthur Biehl in Somewhere in Time and Sid Field in the Seinfeld episode "The Old Man" (for which he earned an Emmy nomination). Other shows he guest starred on include various westerns such as Gunsmoke, Have Gun – Will Travel and The Rifleman, Get Smart, Dallas, Moonlighting, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Quantum Leap, The West Wing and Monk.

Erwin was also a self-taught cartoonist and had several cartoons published in The New Yorker and Playboy.

Not to be confused with Bill Irwin.
