Continuity Nod / Clerks III

Go To

  • Clerks:
    • Dante's reaction to seeing gum in the locks is to kick the shutters, just like in the first movie.
    • The intro montage features a familiar hockey game on the roof.
    • Jay and Silent Bob's first customer is wearing a Happy Scrappy Hero Pup T-shirt.
    • Chewlies gum is sold at Quick Stop. Randal also wears at least two different Chewlies T-shirts.
    • Another T-shirt Randal wears is one with the Big Choice Video logo.
    • The in-universe movie Randal directs is more or less the original Clerks and some of the Clerks II.
    • All the moments Dante and Randal list off as potential scenes for the movie, except for the Quick Stop burning down, are from Clerks.
    • The video Jay returns to Randal is Dental School, which is the movie the customer wanted to rent in Randal's first scene in Clerks.
    • During the conversation about everybody playing themselves, Jay barges in, repeating his song from the end of Clerks and the line following it almost verbatim.
    • Thirty-seven.
    • Willam "Snowball" Black (the one portrayed by Scott Mosier) is one of the auditioners for the movie. He repeats his cathphrase "That's beautiful, man".
    • While shooting the scene with the Chewlies Gum rep, Jay is quietly eating cakes in the background, like he did in the scene with the roofer in Clerks.
    • In the recreation of the scene with Randal and Veronica talking Randal is sporting a heavy makeup job like in the first movie.
    • The same funeral home (but under a different name) makes an appearance in an establishing shot.

  • Mallrats:
    • Willam (the one portrayed by Ethan Suplee) is one of the auditioners for the movie. He still remembers his frustration with not being able to see the sailboat.
    • Randal has a framed poster of Brodie Bruce on The Tonight Show in his apartment.
    • One of Jay's T-shirts has the logo for Buy Me Toys on it.

  • Chasing Amy:
    • Trays with comic book versions of both Jay and Silent Bob and Bluntman and Chronic printed on them are sold at RST THC.
    • Like with Bluntman & Chronic, Jay doesn't recognize "Snootchie Bootchies" as his own catchphrase when he sees it written by someone else. Also doubles as a Development Gag.

  • Dogma:
    • Elias and Blockchain's kites have the Buddy Christ on them.
    • Clerks III is the first movie since Dogma to remember that Mooby is not just a fast-food chain, as multiple Mooby products are sold at Quick Stop, most prominently breakfast cereal.
    • During the scene set in front of the Mooby's, Jay is wearing the same red jacket and "Snoogans" cap he wore in Dogma.

  • Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back:
    • Jay calls himself "the Clit Commander".
    • Boston John, played by Ben Affleck, warms up by doing the same "lion face, lemon face" exercise Ben Affleck and Matt Damon did in Strike Back.
    • Jay's regular customer introduced in Strike Back appears as one of the auditioners.
    • One shared with Reboot: Jay mentions he and Silent Bob have been on a movie set... twice.
    • Jay repeats his line about hating "how fake Hollywood is".

  • Clerks II:
    • During Elias' first appearance, he and his family whistle "Polly Wolly Doodle", like they did in Clerks II.
    • While driving, Dante and Randal pass by the Evil Clown of Middletown, which was also seen at the beginning of Clerks II. Jay is also seen wearing a sweatshirt with a picture of the same clown not long after.
    • While reminiscing about moments Randal could include in his script, Dante mentions the store burning down. Randal is still adamant terrorists did it.
    • After having called Dante a "chud" several times in Clerks II, Randal uses the word to describe Dante in screen directions in his script.
    • While ostensibly an in-universe remake of Clerks, Randal's script also includes the argument about trilogies and the donkey show from Clerks II, not to mention Elias.
    • Elias wonders out loud how it is that someone as seemingly undesirable as Dante('s character) ends up in a Betty and Veronica plot, to which Randal replies he'd been wondering the same thing. In Clerks II during a fight he point-blank asked Dante how could it be that this happened to him not once, but twice.
    • Emma is quick to remind Dante how and where he cheated on her.
    • When Jay distracts the hospital staff (a scene seen in the trailer), his underwear has "WWJD" written on it.
    • Randal follows through on his promise to make Elias his new best friend after Dante leaves.
    • The final shot of the movie is reminiscent of the one from Clerks II, only in color and with Milly replacing the usual milk maid.

  • Zack and Miri Make a Porno (retconned to be a part of The View Askewniverse in Reboot):
    • In a deleted scene, Jay mentions his cousin Lester (played by Jason Mewes in Zack and Miri) who used to do porn before opening an OnlyFans and briefly imitates his phrase from Zack's movie "Let us fuck!".
    • When Jay ruins a shot by reaching for his Fleshlight, he's wearing a Monroeville Zombies hockey jersey.
    • A hockey stick is used as a boom microphone pole. Doubles as a Development Gag.

  • Jay and Silent Bob Reboot:
    • Just like in that movie, RST Video is closed down and the building is occupied by Jay and Silent Bob, only this time legally.
    • Trays with a comic book version of Iron Bob printed on them are sold at RST THC.
    • A poster for Ride-Me-Now is seen in the Quick Stop.
    • Randal's rant about Jesus falling into the ocean and suffering from amnesia after being resurrected is what happened to Loki.
    • Jay is still teasing Silent Bob about being vegan.
    • In a deleted scene, Dante and Randal confuse Kevin Smith and Kevin James, with now a third Kevin (Feige) thrown into the mix.
    • Jay mentions their previous illegal operation, the Cock Smoker. The Cock Smoker sign can be seen leaned against the wall during the shooting of the scene where Randal tells off a video store customer. The logo also appears on various pieces of clothing worn by Jay.
    • One shared with Strike Back: Jay mentions he and Silent Bob have been on a movie set... twice.
    • During the scene with the roofer, Jay wears the "Snootchie Bootchies and Equality" T-shirt sold at Chronic-Con.
    • Hater Totz are sold at Quick Stop. Jay is also seen wearing a Hater Totz T-shirt.
    • Milly makes two brief appearances. During the latter, she wears the same Quick Stop jacket she wore at Chronic Con, which itself is a replica of Jay's outfit in Strike Back.

  • Clerks: The Animated Series
    • Randal's doctor at the hospital is dressed like a witch and says that she was coming from a costume party.
    • Jay has an enamel pin of Mr. Leonardo Leonardo on his hat.
    • Lando makes an appearance.
    • In the freezer Dante remarks that it is cold like Hoth which is what Dante and Randal said when they got locked in the freezer.
    • After Elias pays Emma back for Randal, she says "Well played, Clerks," which is Leonardo Leonardo's catchphrase.

  • Yoga Hosers
    • One of the cereals sold at Quick Stop is Pucky Charms which is also sold at the convenience store the Colleens work at.
