Dustin is a sci-fi geek, and a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars. He's a rather sensitive guy, and loves playing games with his friends. He's currently in a relationship with Ravenia, a girl who he met at a goth club and got interested in their Vampire larp. He plays the following characters: A human paladin (Dungeons and Dragons), a troll (Shadowrun), [[spoiler: Joseph]] Mathers, a vampire baron (Vampire), and Howling Fury, a werewolf pack leader (Werewolf: The Apocalypse).

A relatively ordinary guy still coming to terms with his geekiness. He plays the following characters: Krag, a half-orc barbarian (Dungeons & Dragons), Aeon, a human street samurai (Shadowrun), Allen, a newly-embraced vampire (Masquerade and Requiem mishmash), Finds-The-Way, of the Children of Gaia (Werewolf: The Apocalypse), and "Puppy", a Beastkin Truefriend (Changeling: The Lost).

* AbusiveParents: Implies strongly that his father is a stereotypical 'mans man' who would yell at him for playing with toys instead of playing sports, and fears if he found out about his geeky hobbies he would [[IHaveNoSon disown him]].

** His vampire character Allen is this too. As a new vampire, he needs to be introduced (along with the audience) to vampire society.

* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: How he defeats Murdock: He points out that geeks are so ubiquitous that they've pretty much gone mainstream.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Joel is cynical, snarky, manipulative, grumpy; [[spoiler: Mark even says outright to his therapist that Joel is a jerk.]] But he's also fiercely loyal to his friends and will stand by them no matter how much he grumbles about it. His relationship with Steph has also mellowed him out considerably.

* PoorCommunicationKills: An unfortunate side-effect of being the group's DM- he's in the habit of giving out no more information than absolutely necessary.

* AbusiveParenting: Implies strongly that his father is a stereotypical 'mans man' who would yell at him for playing with toys instead of playing sports, and fears if he found out about his geeky hobbies he would [[IHaveNoSon disown him]].

* ClosetGeek: Likes to try to pretend that he isn't into the geeks' hobbies, and hides his geekiness from all his non-geek friends. [[spoiler: It turns out that it isn't benefiting to his mental health; his therapist advises him to be more open about it, in order to let go of his shame and confusion.]]

* NeatFreak: Joel can go weeks without cleaning his apartment (or himself) if he's absorbed in a game, usually World of Warcraft. But once he snaps out of it, his OCD refocuses and he goes all out on scrubbing. He once polished his bathroom to such an extent that blinded anyone who opened the door. Joel also gets Mark to scrub his own bathroom [[spoiler: to keep him from overthinking during his bout of depression, but also ]] because it was apparently a "biohazard."

* BrutalHonesty: Joel doesn't mince words; if you've screwed up, he'll make sure you know that he knows it.
