* EatTheDog: Being a pig, it's a RunningGag that he's often seen as food supplies much to his dismay.

* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: Gets this way when Meliodas doesn't fondle her like he does to Elizabeth even when shrunk down to normal human size much to Diane's dismay. The reason he gives though is that he wouldn't do it to someone so important to him.

* AmnesiacLover: Diane and King fell in love with each other long ago, but he had to erase her memories once he was forced to leave her. She briefly recovers her memories of him, but can't tell him how she feels because he followed Ban in his journey. By the time he comes back, her memories are messed up because of Gowther and she quickly forgets King ''again''. Diane finally gains back all her memories from [[spoiler:the original Gowther- the creator of the doll Gowther who took them in the first place- whom she met when she went back in time as part of the trial given to her and King by Drole and Gloxinia. Now fully remembering King and realizing she still loves him, they finally become a couple.]]

* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With King. They were close friends back when they were kids (at least by their species standards).[[labelnote:note]] Giants age much slower in proportion with their longer lifespans. For Fairies, growing wings is considered as a rite of passage of sorts in their culture that serves as proof that they've become "adults".[[/labelnote]] They were in love with each other, but King erased Diane's memories of their time together and she developed a crush on Meliodas instead. She falls back in love with King once she regains her memories twice and they become a couple.

* EasyAmnesia: [[spoiler:The second time she had her memories taken away, the demon Gowther effortlessly put them back in place. While his doll self was the one that enacted the memory purge, his human self is the original wielder of that magic and knows how to use it to a greater extent than his creation, because the doll Gowther has [[LaserGuidedAmnesia amnesia of his own regarding some of his own abilities.]]]]

* ForgottenFirstMeeting: She met King when she was a child and the two fell in love with one another. He however erased her memories due to circumstances. She later regains these memories [[spoiler: only to have them erased again by Gowther, [[ZigZaggedTrope then restored by the demon Gowther.]]]]
* FrameUp: Her official Sin is having murdered her leader of her tribe, Matrona. However, the knights who arrested her were the ones who were actually responsible for the attack, [[spoiler:and Matrona didn't actually die.]]

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler:She found herself forced to make a choice as Drole in the past that would have either ended in his death or his conscription to the Ten Commandments. But Drole mentioned the possibility of running away, too, which was lost on him because his {{pride}} as a giant [[DirtyCoward wouldn't allow for it]]. Except this is ''[[TheDitz Diane]]'' we're talking about, not Drole, and she is bound by no such obligations, so she does choose to run away from Zeldris.]]

* BadassInANiceSuit: After [[spoiler:his wings fully grow]], he dons an extremely nice suit.
* BattleCouple: Often seen fighting alongside Diane. [[spoiler:They later become a true battle couple after both of them kiss.]]

** He doesn't take kindly to being told of his missing wings, as both of the previous Fairy Kings had them. [[spoiler:And when he finally does grow his in, he hates the fact that they start off as tiny and his peers [[FreudWasRight start joking]] about him "growing a pair" and that pair being "kid's size" or "baby wings".]]

* BreakTheCutie: The Kingdom Infiltration arc wasn't all that nice to King, what with him arriving too late to protect the person he values the most and being forced to kill his best friend for a second AND third time (along with the knowledge that his actions in the past ended up in said friend's corpse circling on the black market). As if that wasn't enough: the memories of his old past were dug up, he got some shred of hope of Diane remembering him only to have it ripped from him the upcoming second and was forced to mortally injure Meliodas. In the next arc, he returns home to his friends and family, only to have them shun and abuse him for leaving the forest 700 years ago. [[spoiler: Then it gets leveled ''again'' by one of the Demons' "playthings".]] It really sucks to be King.

* CurbStompBattle: Takes down Guila and Jericho with little to no effort and one-hits Great Holy Knight Dreyfus. Hendrickson had all his reasons to keep him distracted.
** He delivers another one to [[spoiler:Mael, who had absorbed multiple Commandments and curb-stomped his fellow sins Diane and Gowther as well as the archangels Tarmiel and Sariel, after his fairy wings fully grow.]]

* TheEmpath: [[spoiler:After his wings fully grow, King becomes able to read the surface thoughts and feelings of people around him, allowing him to understand the pain Mael was in as well as Diane's shock at the turn of events.]]

* HeIsAllGrownUp: After [[spoiler:his wings fully grow]], King's appearance changes to that of a young adult, which makes him look rather dashing, much to the pleasure of [[LuminescentBlush Diane.]]

* IGotBigger: After [[spoiler:his wings fully develop]], King undergoes a growth spurt. His child-like appearance changes to a body looking to be in its early twenties; complete with a flamboyant hairstyle and a suit to match.

** Chastiefol is a spear and its first and default weapon form aptly named Chastiefol is one of an intricately designed one. Its third form, Formalization, is also a spear but with a completely different design, the most notable is a claw shaped blade. The first form of its released True form likewise is a spear however its size is incredible massive. Additionally, the blade of this form has a rather distinct and impressive looking design. After [[spoiler: King's wings fully develop]], its appearance in its True form once again changes. It becomes a spear modeled after a flower with its blade designed to be the flower's long protruding pistil.
** The spear's eighth form, Pollen Garden, is a BeehiveBarrier comprised of interlocking circles of pollen that resemble part of Chastidol's regular weapon design. It is also capable of healing wounds albeit rather slowly. After [[spoiler:King's wings fully grow]], its True form has a different appearance.

** The spear's fourth form, Sunflower, is [[GreenThumb a giant flower]] that can shoot lasers at King's opponents. In Chastiefol's released True form state, this form turns into a giant flower that resembles a Rafflesia. While its stem is smaller in its True form state thus making its height shorter, it's capable of firing more lasers at more targets due to its flower being wider and larger. What's more, it's aided by giant roots capable of flinging opponents into the air and into the flower's target range. After [[spoiler: King's wings fully grow]], it once again changes with a different flower design and returns to having a taller albeit thornier stem. Its innermost petals in particular possess sharp teeth that can be seen whenever it opens up to fire. As for what it fires, rather than firing multiple lasers, it instead fires one large concentrated laser that's incredibly powerful.
** After [[spoiler: King's training with Gloxinia]], Chastiefol gained a sixth form. The spear's sixth form, Yggdra Cloth, is an [[InstantArmor armor set]] that King dons to aid in him in battle. Among the set is notably [[BladeBelowTheShoulder gauntlets with huge blades attached]] and [[RocketBoots greaves that can propel King forward like rockets]].

** Chastiefol gets a NextTierPowerUp as a whole with its released True form, a state which not only brings about the true power of all of the spear's individual forms but also drastically changes their appearances. King willfully doesn't use this state normally as using it takes quite a toll on his body. Circumstances later on the series however has him resolve to do otherwise. Later after [[spoiler: King's wings fully grow]], the spear undergoes a further power up in its True form. Not only does its individual forms change further but [[spoiler: King can also summon multiple different forms at the same time.]]
** The spear's fifth form, Increase, originally consisted of [[FlechetteStorm multiple floating spearheads that King can use to swarm enemies with]]. However after [[spoiler: King's wings fully grow]], they in the spear's True form become [[StormOfBlades outright floating swords]] that King can use against an opponent.

* ParentsAsPeople: In the sequel, King loves all his children, but his parenting skills are the most flawed out of the Deadly Sins. [[spoiler:He lost his first child Nasiens after the latter got SwitchedAtBirth with the human Mertyl. While he did raise Mertyl as his own, he neglected the AdoptionAngst his adopted son carried for eighteen years. It gets worse after Nasiens comes to the Fairy Realm unaware of his relationship to the royal family. Instead of explaining the truth to his children and reassuring Mertyl he's still family, he completely focuses on trying to bond with Nasiens, but his clumsy attempts at approaching Nasiens, who doesn't even know he's his father, and him neglecting Mertyl's bad emotional state as he prioritizes Nasiens only make him look like an insensitive and neglectful father in his children's eyes.]]

* RelationshipResetButton: He and Diane were very close friends long ago and she even made him promise to always love her, but King erased her memories after deciding to atone for his sin against Helbram. Now, they managed to meet again as members of the Sins, but King can't get as close to Diane as he did in the past, since she doesn't remember him and Meliodas is now the only one in her mind. She briefly remembers him, [[spoiler: but Gowther messes with Diane's memories, causing her to forget King again.]]

* SuperiorSuccessor: According to Gloxinia, King will be the strongest Fairy King in history once his wings are fully grown and he masters his powers. [[spoiler:King makes good on this promise when he effortlessly curb-stomps the corrupted Mael, who had wiped the floor with half the Sins.]]

* WalkingShirtlessScene: After [[spoiler: his training with Gloxinia, King briefly went completely shirtless to give his new wings room to grow.]] After [[spoiler: his wings fully grow, he once again goes shirtless as his large beautiful butterfly wings couldn't be contained.]]

* WhatTheHellHero: Has this reaction after Gowther [[spoiler: erases Diane's memories of him as a sort of experiment with emotions, just after she had finally remembered her history with King and that she loved him.]] King smiles and tells Gowther he isn't ''mad,'' but rather he had [[ThisIsUnforgivable 'just thought too highly of him.']] Of course, Gowther isn't exactly himself [[spoiler:without his magical heart, and Diane's memories are restored by the original Gowther with a request to forgive his creation, so King doesn't let it gnaw at him forever.]]

* WingedHumanoid: For some reason, King has not grown wings like other fairies. This was actually questioned by Jericho and later Meliodas. Apparently, King is just a late bloomer. [[spoiler:He finally starts to grow a pair of wings in Chapter 216.]]
* TheWorfEffect: He gains a major powerup while [[spoiler:fighting Mael, effortlessly curbstomping his ClippedWingAngel form. However, he's quickly swatted aside by the Demon King to demonstrate his power.]]
* YankTheDogsChain: After all the crap he went through in the Kingdom Infiltration arc, things seemed to be getting better for him with Diane finally seeming to pay more attention to him and their relationship making some progress, but then this is dismissed with King stating that going to the festival together was only Diane's way to thank him for saving her from Helbram and he's convinced that she still sees him as a friend. Things then get worse for him when he decides to tagalong with Ban to the new Fairy King's forest and finds out he's now a traitor to fairies. He gets a little ray of sunshine when Ban tells him Diane remembers their past, but [[spoiler:when he comes back to her, she has forgotten him all over again.]]

* ActOfTrueLove: In his backstory, he was actually willing to [[spoiler: ''give'' Princess Nadja his own (artificial) heart, and by extension his own ability to feel, when her heart gave out. Naturally that couldn't work, but Gowther genuinely believed it would at the time.]]

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: He sees nothing wrong with using MindRape against his opponents, or even re-writing Guila's memories, even to the point of making her forget about her little brother, as a means of saving her and helping himself to understand ThePowerOfLove. In this case, it isn't malicious at all. He simply doesn't ''get'' why it's wrong. The reason why he's like this is incredibly saddening. [[spoiler:He physically threw away the magical heart his creator gave him because he suffered the unbearable pain of loss. Without his heart, he couldn't feel empathy anymore. In reality however, it's revealed the magical heart was merely a placebo and Gowther merely suppressed his own emotions via erasing his own memories. Once this issue is resolved, his morality shifts to good.]]

* BrokenBird: He's been so thoroughly broken by [[spoiler:the death of his lover Nadja]] that he turned into the morally blind purely intellectual thinker he is today. Later on, Diane makes him realize that he never really lost his emotions and this turns him back into his original kindhearted self.

* CharacterDevelopment: Rather beautifully, Gowther's character does a full 180 [[spoiler:when he lets his heart come back]], and following this, his power level skyrockets to the original level he was created with [[spoiler:as the finest creation of his human maker. [[AnAesop The act of suppressing his emotions served to suppress his true power.]]]]

* ConsummateLiar: With his disturbing preference for [[MemoryGambit memory alteration]], he can implant pure fiction in an unsuspecting person's mind and they will believe it's real. He's also thoroughly deceived himself into thinking his "Lost World" magic permanently erases memories, [[DramaticIrony possibly as a side effect of rewriting some of his own memories.]] [[spoiler:Indeed, he has both willingly and unwillingly forgotten many memories due to the effects of betraying the Commandment of "Selflessness", subjecting himself to memory removal, and removing his own magical heart, and some of his forgotten memories are so painful he ''never'' wants to remember them again.]]
* CreepyMonotone: Gowther normally speaks in a way that is completely devoid of emotion. One character even noted that he sounded as if he was sleepy. This way of talking is rendered in Gowther's speech bubbles looking more like narration boxes rather than the standard circular ones normally used by other characters. [[spoiler:However, the return of his heart causes him to shift into a {{Keet}}.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: A Side-Story One-Shot leading into chapter 212 reveals that Gowther [[spoiler:was given a Magic Heart by his creator before he died. He was found ''3000 years later'' in a cavern beneath Castle Liones by Bartra's elder sister, Nadja, whom he would wind up falling in love with. Unfortunately, she was ill, with her heart finally giving out on what was TheirFirstTime. The King's guards, drawn by Gowther's SkywardScream, found him naked over the Princess' body, [[AbuseMistake having gouged her chest out to try and give her his heart]]. The compromising position lead to his branding as the Sin of Lust. He subsequently discarded his Heart rather than deal with the pain of having lost someone dear to him.]]

* DullSurprise: Due to Gowther's emotionless personality, he normally has a very dull expression to practically everything. In fact, even when trying to imitate a mocking laugh after shrugging off [[spoiler: his neck being snapped by Slader]], it just comes off as being very laughable dull.
* EmergentHuman: Back before [[spoiler:he threw away his heart]], he had just recently been given autonomy and free will by his creator, and had never interacted with anybody but his creator before, so when his creator turns him loose to carve out his own path, he demonstrates a childlike inability to comprehend simple things, concepts, and especially feelings, because he hasn't fully experienced them yet.
* EmotionSuppression: Turns out it's not that he lacks emotions, but he used his own mind-controlling abilities to forget about them [[spoiler:after the death of his lover Nadja]]. After [[spoiler:Diane forces him to remember his emotions]], Gowther becomes expressive and sweet-tempered as that was his original personality.
* EmotionlessBoy: Not only does he not display emotions, he doesn't seem to really understand them either. He finds them rather interesting, however, especially the idea that he was protecting the Armored Giant because he empathized with it. [[spoiler: Caused by the removal of his Magic Heart.]]
* TheEmpath: Despite being emotionless himself, Gowther is capable of reading others' emotions. Due to having NoSocialSkills though, him reading people's true emotions and telling them out loud can be very rude. Later however, [[spoiler:he takes on a more traditional aspect of an empath when his own emotions return.]]

* ExpositoryPronoun: He originally used the boyish "boku" as a first-person pronoun. He switched to "ore" after he read a novel where the protagonist used "ore" and he adopted it for himself [[spoiler:hoping it would make Nadja like him more because Nadja liked the protagonist of said novel]].
* {{Expy}}: Of Machine Banchou from ''Manga/KongohBancho'', the previous work of the manga's author, Suzuki Nakaba. They look similar, wear glasses and have the same hairstyle. Both don't understand the concept of human feelings very well and have an unique relationship with a child. Both are creations too, Machine Banchou is a robot while Gowther is [[spoiler: a doll]].
* EyeScream: In the midst of [[spoiler: Mael's assault on Gowther for what was done to the Arcangel]], Gowther's right eye popped out of its socket.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: He points out to Escanor that his feelings for Merlin are romantic in nature. This hints that the otherwise emotionally closed off Gowther [[spoiler: has himself felt romantic love before and is able to easily identify it in others.]]

* HealTheCutie: [[spoiler:He lost his creator who was a father to him and later, his lover died from illness. Gowther was unable to handle the grief and sealed away his emotions]] to become an emotionless doll. Eventually, Diane and King confront him after [[spoiler:meeting him and his creator in the past, which concludes in Diane making Gowther finally understand that by forgetting his sad memories, he's also denying the happy times he had with his loved ones]]. With this, Gowther's emotions and memories are restored, allowing him to go back to being the sweet and cheerful guy he originally was.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: His Invasion magical ability is the least outwardly destructive power of the rest of the Sins and leaves him open to harm when in use but it has the ability to MindRape '''anyone''' and can alter memories and sous on a massive scale that can turn especially overpowered enemies into mental invalids. Dreyfus once commented that it may be the most dangerous of all the powers possessed by the Seven Deadly Sins due to its ability to manipulate memories and affect the spirit in any way Gowther wishes.[[spoiler: The ability is so overpowered it can even affect the minds of the Demon King and Supreme Deity to alter their memories as well]]
* HeartTrauma: [[spoiler: Removed his Magic Heart in an attempt to revive Nadja, then threw it away so that he wouldn't have to deal with the pain of her death, losing his emotions in the process.]]

* HiddenDepths: It's hard to imagine that Gowther [[spoiler: once had a sweet, innocent romance with Elizabeth's aunt Nadja, back in the days when he could still feel the full range of human emotions.]]

* {{Irony}}: Gowther is interested with studying human emotions...[[spoiler: which he had at some point, but abandoned due to the pain he feels.]]
* {{Keet}}: Gowther actually showed strong signs of this [[spoiler: prior to the removal of his Magic Heart]], and later [[spoiler:went back to being this after it was revealed he never lost that heart in the first place and allowed it to resurface.]]
* KickTheDog: [[spoiler: Basically tries to murder Escanor and Hawk to advance further in the fighting festival and gain a heart, (even though all he really has to do is incapacitate them to win the bout) and brutally takes down his partner Jericho when she tries to stop him.]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: He used Lost World on himself to forget about the deaths of his creator [[spoiler:and his lover Nadja]].

* LiteralMinded: At times, he can be this. For example, [[spoiler:when Diane angrily told him he couldn't mess with people's cherished memories (as in, he ''shouldn't'') over what he did to Guila and Zeal, he thought she meant he wasn't capable of doing so - so, as an experiment, he blocked Diane's memories.]]
* LivingToys: Gowther is actually some sort of doll-like being that was originally created by [[spoiler:the Ten Commandments member of the same name to act as his avatar in the human world]]. His original form as well is actually a handheld toy doll of sorts that uses magic to scale him up and make him look more human.

* LyingToProtectYourFeelings: Subverted in the sequel. [[spoiler:After Ardbeg betrays Camelot and dies protecting Anne (who had been magically turned into an infant at the time), Gowther tries to lie to Anne about what happened to Ardbeg, telling her that he left after being shown an illusion of his deceased baby daughter. However, [[LivingLieDetector Anne's magic makes her aware of people's lies]], forcing Gowther to tell her the truth, even though it saddens her.]]

* MagicFeather: This is the case for [[spoiler: Gowther's magic heart. His creator had given Gowther the heart saying that it was infused with heart magic which would give Gowther emotions. As such when Nadja died and Gowther was unable to revive her, he threw away his magic heart and erased his memories since he no longer wanted any feelings. In reality however, the trinket didn't possessed any sort of magic and what emotions Gowther had were actually within him all along just suppressed from him wiping out his own memories. Once Diane helps him come to terms with his memories, his emotions resurface back naturally.]]

* ManlyTears: He cried [[spoiler:upon losing his creator and Nadja, and upon remembering his good memories of them.]]

* MayflyDecemberRomance: Gowther is an over 3000-year-old doll, making him unaging and unable to die by normal means. In his backstory, he had a romance with a sickly human girl named Nadja. [[spoiler:After his lover's untimely death, Gowther repressed his memories and emotions to forget his grief, but he eventually remembers and learns to treasure his memories with Nadja.]]
* MemoryGambit: He screws up the memories in people's heads if it suits him, including his own. Unfortunately, [[EasyAmnesia he doesn't leave them a way to revert back to normal]] because [[BlueAndOrangeMorality he doesn't see a need for it.]] [[spoiler:In fact, because of all the trauma he's gone through, ''he'' [[AmnesiaDanger forgot he could undo his own magic.]]]]
* MercyKill: When faced with the prospect of [[spoiler: regaining his memories which he himself had erased, he asks to be broken rather than remember all the pain he had suffered.]] Thankfully however, Diane talks him out of it.
* MessyHair: As Armando, Gowther had this.

* MistakenForMurderer: [[spoiler:Gowther's lover, Princess Nadja, died right after making love to him for the first time. Gowther despaired and tried to revive her by giving her ''his own heart''. When the guards heard the commotion and bursted into the room, [[NotWhatItLooksLike the looks of the scene]] lead them to believe Gowther had just raped and brutally murdered the princess. Hence why he became the Sin of Lust.]]

* TheMourningAfter: The one and only love of his life was Nadja, who sadly died young because of her illness. In the present, he's the only male Sin without a love interest and once he remembers Nadja, he holds onto her memory dearly.

* NotWhatItLooksLike: [[spoiler: The royal guards thought that Gowther had raped and murdered Princess Nadja, when she had actually passed away peacefully during TheirFirstTime and Gowther was trying give her his own heart so she would come back. The entire scene looked understandably bad.]]

* PleaseKillMeIfItSatisfiesYou: [[spoiler:After Estarossa remembers he's Mael, Gowther offers to let Mael kill him, as he was one of those responsible for altering his memories and sense of identity for the sake of stopping the Holy War. Mael immediately tries to take the offer, but King won't stay still and watch as one of his friends gets killed.]]
* PleaseWakeUp: A variation. [[spoiler: He's utterly distraught when Princess Nadja Liones passes away in his arms, trying to revive her by giving her his Magic Heart.]]

* PowerIncontinence: As one of the Sins, he would travel around in a giant suit of armor designed by Merlin to keep powers from going out of control. Unfortunately, this suit was destroyed in the battle following his introduction. Merlin later implies he really needs it and says she'll make another, but his behavior starts to go out of control anyway: His speech bubbles lose their normal irregular format for a single panel to emphasize this. [[spoiler: Later on, we see how he behaves when out of control having used his powers to brainwash Guila into loving him. Worse still, when Merlin creates medicine to substitute effects of the armor, Gowther secretly refuses to take it.]]
** The real culprit behind Gowther's loss of control is [[spoiler:the strain of using a portion of his magic power to continuously seal away the feelings of his heart. There's a backlash he suffers any time his buried emotions and painful memories threaten to come back. Gowther goes into a state of pandemonium trying to force them out, and his magical power runs wild in the act of re-repressing them as the seal falters. After willingly allowing his feelings to come back, he doesn't suffer this effect anymore because he's unsealed his magic and regained the full use of it.]]
* PowerLimiter: The gigantic armor that Gowther wore was actually a power limiter to suppress and prevent powers from becoming uncontrollable. Later he gains a replacement in the form of a bracelet. [[spoiler:When his emotions came back to him, this bracelet is probably just there as a reminder to [[WillfullyWeak keep collateral damage to a minimum and only remove it if his full power is absolutely necessary.]]]]

* SafetyInIndifference: [[spoiler:After Nadja died, Gowther got rid of his own heart and sealed his emotions and memories of his lover because he thought it was less painful to pretend he never knew what love and feelings are.]]
* ScaryShinyGlasses: He gets a few shots of these, usually around [[spoiler:Guila after he rewrote her memories to be in love with him]].
* ShirtlessScene: In chapter 66.5's cover.

* TakeMeInstead: [[spoiler:Once Mael recovers his memories and realizes what happened to him, Gowther knows Mael wants to take revenge, but the demon Gowther, who was the one who planned Mael to become Estarossa, is long dead. Doll Gowther immediately decides to surrender himself as atonement. Not only isn't Mael deterred after breaking him apart, Gowther is also convinced not to give up so easily.]]

** He takes it a step further in his introduction for the sequel where he uses illusion magic to disguise himself as a large and creepy-looking bearded old man [[spoiler:to hide his identity when visitors come to his demon village]].

* TookALevelInKindness: After [[spoiler:he recovers his emotions]], Gowther becomes far friendlier and compassionate in contrast to the morally questionable EmotionlessBoy he was before since [[spoiler:he remembered the feeling of love]].
* TraumaButton: Merlin discovered the real reason Gowther loses control at times is from being forced to remember the painful memories about [[spoiler:Nadja's death]] he repressed. When the memories resurface, it causes his body to go berserk as he attempts to reject them. The sight of [[spoiler:his heart]] is also a trigger, because [[spoiler:he tried to give it to Nadja in a vain attempt to save her life]].
* TraumaCongaLine: [[spoiler:His creator, the original Gowther, granted him free will before his time came, and parted ways with his creation. Three thousand years later, Gowther woke up and came across the withered corpse of his dead creator which caused him to mourn. After that, he fell in love with the young and sickly princess Nadja. The times he's been shown doing so have so far been times when his more morally good side is shown, [[spoiler:and when he returned to his normal personality]]. There's no sexual motivation behind it, Gowther just likes wearing women's clothes and the source of it happened during his backstory. In order to get inside the castle, Baltra had Gowther disguise himself as a maid, a thing which Nadja commented might make Gowther develop a habit for wearing women' clothes. Sure enough, it did.

* TheAgeless: Bears special mention. She's suspended her own time, so she will have all the time she needs to do her studies [[spoiler:(although she actually did it because she fell in love with a long-lived demon, Meliodas)]]. But notably, this makes her immune against Gray Road's RapidAging curse.

* DoNotTauntCthulhu: The Supreme Goddess and the Demon King were not happy about being deceived, so they razed her hometown and left her the SoleSurvivor.

** Upon revealing she is a daughter of Belialin, she enters into this territory with the Ten Commandments. [[HorrifyingTheHorror And then some.]]

* HarmfulHealing: Though she's initially stated by Arthur to have HealingMagic which she could use to help King Baltra, Merlin in reality doesn't have that sort of magic as it's a specialty of druids. Some extra pages in volume 13 and the second [=OVA=] of the anime however shows that has the next best thing. A demonic caterpillar-like creature that's named by her Magic Item No. 48 "Cure Angel". It's a ferocious bug from hell that crawls through an open orifice of an organism, such as an open wound, the mouth, the ear, or the anus, and uses it "cute" barb to eat vital organs from the inside. Merlin however improved it so that it only eats tumors ailing a patient rather than the patient's heart.

* LastOfHerKind: The last wizard of Belialin and Merlin herself is responsible for it. She somehow managed to outsmart both the Demon King and the Supreme Goddess to gain the blessing of both, which resulted in her hometown being destroyed and made her (in)famous among the non-human clans.

* MageSpecies: Merlin is a survivor of Belialin, a capital of wizards that existed in Britannia over 3,000 years ago and that was destroyed because she deceived both the Demon King and Supreme Deity to get a blessing from both.

* SoulJar: Her crystal ball becomes this when she transfers her soul to it when her body gets petrified by Galan.

** She is also blessed by both Supreme Goddess and Demon King to be [[NoSell immune of Ten Commandment's curses and Goddess Clan's possessions]].

* TakenForGranite: After telling Galan a lie, her body is petrified and she only managed to survive by transfering her soul into her crystal ball.

* {{Tykebomb}}: In Merlin's hometown Belialin, children with an aptitude for magic like herself were used as tests subjects and trained to serve as weapons against high-ranking demons and goddesses. Since Merlin's talent for magic was exceptional, her own father never treated her as a daughter and only gave her mountains of reading material and tests to implement her magical potential.

** His introduction to Galan on his debut.

* CurbStompBattle: Once the sun had begun to shine, Izraf was living on borrowed time. Later in the main series proper, Escanor's day form deals this trope to Galan, Merasylla, Dolor, Gloxinia and even [[spoiler:Estarossa. Zeldris tried to aid his brother...didn't even slow down Escanor's attack!]]

** In the present day [[spoiler:Galan, of the Ten Commandments,]] saw his strongest attack do nothing to hurt the man, and decided to run [[spoiler:and turned to stone because Galan swore to not run from his "game" with Escanor]].

** Keeps Galan and Merascylla occupied for hours by getting them drunk, until the sun rises.

* HiddenDepths: No matter his form, whether it be the weakling or the Hunk, Escanor is an intelligent person and an excellent judge of character. He manages to intentionally stall Merascylla and Galan long enough for him to HulkOut and unleash his true power. In the Great Festival Fight, [[spoiler: he knew how to press Gowther's buttons long enough for the Commandments to think that he was playing along with the rules of the tournament before unleashing a devastating SneakAttack. He also knew that Gowther has buttons to be pressed in the first place, which is quite a feat considering most people think Gowther's an unfeeling being.]]

** Related to King's backstory, King erased Diane's memories related to him after he learned about what happened to his friend Helbram. She later regains her memories when he saves her from Helbram. She however later loses her memories [[spoiler: of her time as a member of the Sins due to Gowther using his technique Lost World on her in their battle against one another. Thankfully, the human Gowther of the past rectifies this later on.]]

* EasyAmnesia: [[spoiler:The second time she had her memories taken away, the human Gowther effortlessly put them back in place. While his doll self was the one that enacted the memory purge, his human self is the original wielder of that magic and knows how to use it to a greater extent than his creation, because the doll Gowther has [[LaserGuidedAmnesia amnesia of his own regarding some of his own abilities.]]]]

* ForgottenFirstMeeting: She met King when she was a child and the two fell in love with one another. He however erased her memories due to circumstances. She later regains these memories [[spoiler: only to have them erased again by Gowther, [[ZigZaggedTrope then restored by the human Gowther.]]]]

King is a member of the Seven Deadly Sins and represents the Grizzly's Sin of Sloth. He is the master of the Black Hound, Oslow. King's real name is Fairy King Harlequin, and as the name suggests, he was the king of the fairies.\\\

* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler:At the end of Chapter 215, Diane kisses him, since the original human Gowther recovered her memories. The following chapter, both of them reciprocate their feelings toward one another, King returns the kiss, and the two are officially a boyfriend-girlfriend pair.]]

Gowther is a member of the Seven Deadly Sins, the Goat's Sin of Lust. He is a mysterious man who initially appeared as a large armored person second in size only to Diane. His armor was sighted in Ordan Forest whereupon Helbram sent Dawn Roar to capture him. Upon reuniting with the rest of the Sins, it was revealed that he is actually an effeminate looking, normal-sized man who went by the alias Armando.

* DarkAndTroubledPast: A Side-Story One-Shot leading into chapter 212 reveals that Gowther [[spoiler:was given a Magic Heart by his creator before he died. He was found ''3000 years later'' in a cavern beneath Castle Liones by Baltra's elder sister, whom he would wind up falling in love with. Unfortunately, she was ill, with her heart finally giving out on what was TheirFirstTime. The King's guards, drawn by Gowther's SkywardScream, found him naked over the Princess' body, [[AbuseMistake having gouged her chest out to try and give her his heart]]. The compromising position lead to his branding as the Sin of Lust. He subsequently discarded his Heart rather than deal with the pain of having lost someone dear to him.]]
* DisguisedInDrag: In his backstory, Baltra made Gowther disguise himself as a maid so he could enter the castle of Liones and spend time with Princess Nadja without attracting much attention.

* KillingIntent: Ban gives one to Oslow when they first meet.

* LovedINotHonorMore: He and Elaine realize [[spoiler:her continuing to "live" isn't because of her strong desire but Melascula is still alive, though maimed severely by Escanor. After Merascylla is healed, Ban hugs Elaine and she affirms Ban will one day revive her for real. Ban then sneaks past the Ten Commandments (by stealing their awareness of him) and neck snaps Merascylla killing her to help save Meliodas]].

* ReluctantRuler: Though he was made the new Fairy King, Ban is however reluctant of the title. In fact, he not only tried to give the position back to the rightful ruler and also cited why he himself is [[UnfitForGreatness unfit of the right]].

** Ban's love to Elaine [[spoiler:makes him immune to Merascylla's Faith curse.]]

** Merlin's [[spoiler:status as TheAgeless makes her immune to Gray Road's RapidAging curse.]] She also has [[spoiler: the blessings she received from the Supreme Goddess that make her immune to the Ten Commandments curses in general.]]

* TheOrder: The Seven Deadly Sins are an order made up of conscripted criminals formed by King Baltra Liones. They are separate from the Holy Knights and answer directly to the king.

** Lust: Gowther is an extremely effeminate looking man but he has a very emotionless personality that lacks, among other things, traits normally stereotyped with lust. His powers are more light and mental based rather than physical but the way they are used invoke themes of lust. Two noteworthy techniques of his are a LotusEaterMachine power to trap opponents with illusions to show [[YourHeartsDesire their heart's desire]], and a power that basically {{Mind Rape}}s a person. Also while he doesn't lust in the traditional sense, he does however long to acquire feelings to a degree that it could be considered as lust. Then there's the fact that he's actually the [[spoiler: "Selflessness" of the Ten Commandments or more specifically the real Gowther who created and used him as an avatar was]], a thing that greatly contrasts lust. His supposed crime that made him a Sin involved the [[spoiler: intimate relationship he had with the elder sister of Baltra Liones, Nadja, before he threw away his magic heart along with his feelings and memories. Due to a misunderstanding, it looked like he had raped and killed the princess but in reality what really happened was the exact opposite of a lustful crime.]]
** Gluttony: Merlin is a sexy {{stripperific}} LadyOfBlackMagic that even the coverpage of chapter 85 lampshades by mistaking her for the Sin of Lust. Her Sin title and her moniker of Crimson Pig are clear references to the GluttonousPig concept however, she isn't even remotely close to anything that could be associated as a BigEater or anything else related to overconsumption of food. She does though have an insatiable hunger except it's for knowledge rather than food. Her hunger for knowledge is so insatiable in fact that [[spoiler: she used a spell to suspend her own body's time in order to pursue her endless research without the worry of a normal limited lifespan.]] Additionally, she has an over excess of magical power and spells. All of which is aided by her magic ability Infinity, an extremely hax power that allows her spells to remain for eternity unless she herself dispels them. Then there is her backstory in which [[spoiler: instead of choosing between the set of blessings offered by the Demon King and those offered by the Supreme Goddess, she took all of the blessings offered by both for herself.]]

* AmnesiacLover: Diane and King fell in love with each other long ago, but he had to erase her memories once he was forced to leave her. She briefly recovers her memories of him, but can't tell him how she feels because he followed Ban in his journey. By the time he comes back, her memories are messed up because of Gowther and she quickly forgets King ''again''. Diane finally gains back all her memories from [[spoiler:the original Gowther- the creator of the doll Gowther who took them in the first place- whom she met when she went back in time as part of the trial given to her and King by Dolor and Gloxinia. Now fully remembering King and realizing she still loves him, they finally become a couple.]]

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler:She found herself forced to make a choice as Dolor in the past that would have either ended in his death or his conscription to the Ten Commandments. But Dolor mentioned the possibility of running away, too, which was lost on him because his {{pride}} as a giant [[DirtyCoward wouldn't allow for it]]. Except this is ''[[TheDitz Diane]]'' we're talking about, not Dolor, and she is bound by no such obligations, so she does choose to run away from Zeldris.]]

* InexplicablyAwesome: While we know that Escanor was born with his power, where it came from and why it manifested in a human is completely unknown as of yet.
** [[spoiler: Explained in chapter 253, where it is revealed that Sunshine was the Grace of an Archangel killed by the Ten Commandments.]]
