** In the long run, Temple is more of a subversion than anything. His past is tragic and has good reasons to be angry with the Project and the UNSC, but ultimately by the present he’s less a victim and more a monster who let his desire for revenge consume him… as well as choosing to deliberately revel in it.

* UndignifiedDeath: He is killed with Loco's ridiculous underwear flag completely by accident by the Freelancers. Deconstructed as the pointlessness of his death is a major motivator behind Temple seeking vengeance against Freelancer and the UNSC.

Added DiffLines:

** He takes sadistic glee in explaining to Caboose that Church is still dead and will never come back, but when he sees Grif on a security camera, he mistakes him for Biff and clearly thinks that he's somehow come back.

Added DiffLines:

* MirrorCharacter: Ironically enough, Temple is incredibly similar to the Director. Both of them lost someone they loved due to military service, both are non-combatants who rely on lackeys and manipulations to accomplish their goals, and both are completely uncaring of the casualties and suffering in their wake as long as it suits their goals. Their only difference is their end goal; the Director refuses to believe that Allison can stay dead and wants to resurrect her, while Temple acknowledges that Biff is gone for good and is lashing out at everyone he blames for it.

Removing trope misuse.

* BreakTheCutie: Biff's death drove him over the DespairEventHorizon.

Reworded slightly to meet the TRS changes; the trope is about how the work establishes the villain's motive has a point, but without justifying the right to become a villain because of that point. All the stuff about Caboose is misuse.

* VillainHasAPoint: While he goes far beyond what's reasonable for the sake of terrible vengeance, his grudge against Project Freelancer and the UNSC is not without basis. Also, although he takes great pleasure mocking Caboose over Church's death and being brutally honest about it, he has a point about Caboose's teammates treating him like a baby instead of an adult just because of his low intelligence, and as a consequence Caboose struggles with simple concepts like death.

* VillainHasAPoint: While he goes far beyond what's reasonable It was learning that simulation troopers are used by the Freelancers and UNSC, getting people killed for a war that doesn't exist just to further private agendas that tipped him over the sake of terrible vengeance, edge and sent him on his grudge against villainous crusade. However, while it's true that Project Freelancer and the UNSC is have a lot to answer for, the work makes it clear that this should be resolved through legal means and not without basis. Also, although by becoming the very monsters he takes great pleasure mocking Caboose over Church's death and being brutally honest about it, he has a point about Caboose's teammates treating him like a baby instead of an adult just because of his low intelligence, and as a consequence Caboose struggles with simple concepts like death.objected to.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: Considering how laughably petty they are, it's hard to sympathize with them when the Blood Gulch Crew mows them down.

Added DiffLines:

* StrongButUnskilled: Their success mostly consists of two factors: their reliance on sneak attacks to destroy bases belonging to the UNSC, and their use of equipment that they stole from Project Freelancer to defeat stronger opponents. Take these two away, and they are the same troopers that were being used on simulations. This is the exact opposite of the Reds and Blues, who very rarely had access to advanced weaponry, and thus had to face off against much stronger opponents while using wit, teamwork and experience.
** In the final battle, despite having a much larger army, they got defeated by the Reds and Blues in less than a day. Genkins would even say, later on, that the Blues and Reds would have been defeated even before they were to manage to activate Loco's machine had Locus and Wash been there.
** In every single fight that any of them participates against their counterpats from the Reds and Blues, they lose quite handily. Heck, five of them together couldn't even beat Spencer Porkensenson, who was a mere legal process server.

** Temple is a Church that never had Tex to balance him out. Letting him act on his anger.
** Gene is a Simmons that never had the courage to face his insecurities and whose jerkass coping persona overtook him.

* ArmorIsUseless: This is typically the case in Machinima/RedVsBlue, but his death is an extreme example; Project Freelancer's MJOLNIR suits apparently can't even block flag poles. The closest things to a HandWave are that it was Tex who threw the object, the pole having a metal tip, and Biff being impaled through a weak point.
