Eventually, the Sage, on his deathbed and hoping to lessen the chance of global devastation, split its chakra apart to form the nine Tailed Beasts and [[SealedEvilInACan hid its body, the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, in the moon]], to prevent the EldritchAbomination from escaping upon the Sage's passing. Tobi's plan hinges on capturing all of the Tailed Beasts, depriving them of their chakra and reforming the Ten-Tails back to its original, primordial form, so he can become its jinchūriki. He more or less succeeds.

* BotanicalAbomination: ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'' reveals that the Ten-Tails' initial beastly form is actually a seedling for the Divine Tree, [[spoiler:and that the Ōtsutsuki clan travelled various dimensions planting them in life-rich planets. The Ten-Tails would burrow into the planet's core and drain the world of its life over a long period of time, condensing the energy and changing it to produce a chakra fruit that the Ōtsutsuki would consume to empower themselves. It is from these fruits that all of what we know as chakra ultimately originates. * NatureIsNotNice: [[spoiler:While legend states that the WorldTree transformed into an EldritchAbomination in hatred of those who took its chakra, this is ultimately [[SubvertedTrope subverted]]. * AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Averted. He's about as well-liked as they come. Played straight when he was a kid though, being as much of a pariah as Naruto, if not moreso due to his hosting a Tailed Beast being common knowledge in the cloud.
* BadassAndChildDuo: At a young age he was paired with the Raikage. They were known as the A-B Duo, the self-proclaimed strongest tag team. B eventually outgrew his childhood role and demonstrated his strength to his brother, which earned his trust to fight in the war.

* BerserkButton: He has a minor one in A not acknowledging his ''true'' power and only seeing him as a jinchūriki.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: A CloudCuckooLander rapper who aspires to be an enka singer. He also happens to be one the strongest characters introduced in the series.

* DualWielding: He can use seven swords simultaneously.

* IgnoreTheFanservice: Played straight and subverted.
** Naruto's Sexy Jutsu had knocked out even the Third Hokage and never let him down before... but when he tries to use it to convince B to help him out, B just shuts the door. The reason why is revealed later: [[LikesOlderWomen B has a preference for mature women]].
** Later on, he is very distracted by the sexiness of Tsunade's giant cans, and the fact that she doesn't wear a bra.
