* HateSink: Even being [[spoiler: [[MadeOfEvil the embodiment of all of the world's evil in either Mar Heaven or Ginta's world]]]]; he's still a [[{{Sadist}} sadistic]] SocialDarwinist who [[spoiler: [[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashed Phantom and Diana]]. into being the hated villains that nearly orchestrated an apocalypse on Mar Heaven twice, killing countless innocents.]] He also [[spoiler: used Ginta's father's body in attempt to play a MindRape on Ginta in order to kill him more easily.]] And unlike his subordinates, he neither has a FreudianExcuse or is portrayed with any redeeming qualities.
** [[AdaptationalVillainy The anime makes him even worse if it wasn't possible.]] He [[YouHaveFailedMe kills his entire Chess Piece army for the sin of losing to Team Mar]], [[spoiler: [[HeroKiller proceeds to brutally kill each of Team Mar one by one]]]], [[spoiler: [[ShapeShifterGuiltTrip use his host, Danna to emotionally attack Alviss and Ginta with sadistic relish while using that weakness as a distraction to attempt to kill them]]]], and once he's in his true body, [[spoiler: [[ForTheEvulz destroys a portion of Tokyo just as a show of power]].]] [[spoiler: [[DirtyCoward And on top of this, he only acts this way when he has the upper hand, and briefly panicked when he was on the other end when Alviss resolved to take down King with him]].]] No one misses him once he's gone for good.

* DropTheHammer: He can make people shrink with it.

* TheArcher: Her main weapon, true to her namesake. She uses it to make people fight amongst themselves

* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:Snow had been locked up and all alone as a child, and constantly had visions of Ginta and Koyuki in the other world and wished nothing more than be friends with Ginta. She wanted Ginta to rely on her the same way he relied on Koyuki back on Earth but Snow just kept failing. By the time she realizes this, she experiences a HeroicBSOD so bad she's willing to simply fade away and disappear forever. She's just a fragment of Koyuki's soul that was used and treated like an object instead of a person, destined to die to bring pain to others when all she wanted to do was help people. Ginta manages to pull her out of this despair with a CooldownHug and some kind words. Things get even more sad when she dies in his arms two episodes later after confesses her love to him.]]

* YouAreWorthHell: [[spoiler:He tells Chaton this as he gives her one of his [=ÄRMs=] that allows them to stay in touch saying that even if she’s a Chess Piece, he wouldn’t leave her side and would fight for her.]]

* ThenLetMeBeEvil: [[spoiler:Despite being an innocent bystander then - she was deemed guilty-by-association as an ex–Chess Piece's lover, and his enemies tortured and raped her for it. Leaving her vengeful enough to become a Piece herself.]]

A talking dog and one of Snow's retainers who helped her escape from her castle when it became clear Diana was evil. He was also forcibly fused with Alan at the end of the First War Games by Halloween. Putting the two on an odd time share (Edward has to fall asleep three time to summon Alan. Alan has to sleep only once to switch back) until Ginta is able to separate them with Baboo's Alice form.

* HopelessSuitor: To Phantom [[spoiler:as he still loves his dead girlfriend. Subverted in the anime, where he appears to reciprocate her feelings to some extents, after seeing just how far she would go for his sake.]]

* CloningBlues: She has a major case of this in the anime when [[spoiler:she discovered she's a magically conceived clone of Koyuki. She had seen visions of Ginta and Koyuki since she was little. All she ever wanted was for Ginta to rely on her the same way he relied on Koyuki but her shit luck makes this impossible for her. Ginta pulls her out of the depression with a CooldownHug and some kind words.]]

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: She's this to the Knights, being too violent, insane, vain arrogant and short-sighted [[EvenEvilHasStandards even by the group's standards.]]
* YouHaveFailedMe: Any Chess that loses under her sight, something that Phantom calls out [[StupidEvil for how short-sighted it is]] [[PragmaticVillainy to do so, rather than having them train in order to get stronger allies that won't fail again.]] [[spoiler: As he demonstrates with Ian, who actually was given the latter option and promptly kills her in order to take her place amongst the Knights.]]

* BadBoss: Has her failed teammates [[OffWithHisHead decapitated]] [[YouHaveFailedMe for losing to Team Mar]] through a game of [[RockPaperScissors rock, paper, scissors]] [[ILied with the implied implications she has no intention of letting them go even when they win, with Girom being an insurance.]] Phantom calls her out on this StupidEvil antic [[spoiler: and prompts has her executed and replaced by Ian.]]

Ranked the 3rd ranked powerful Knight of the Chess Pieces, but 2nd strongest in terms of might, he's Alan's ArchEnemy, having fought him previously in the first War Games. This led to Pump feeling incredibly insecure and became sadistic and a SocialDarwinist in order to get back at the world that bullied him- joining the Chess Pieces in order to do so.]]

The sixth strongest Knight, he participated in the previous War Games, [[spoiler: where he caused the death of Jack's father.]] And years later, fights Jack.

Ranked Rook in the beginning of the story, Ian is one of the Chess Pieces sent to get Snow, resulting in a fight with Ginta [[WorthyOpponent gaining respect for the boy for breaking one of his arms.]] He later pursues Ginta over participating in the massacre, [[CurbStompBattle gets beaten easily by Ginta's new power]] and Halloween has Chimera [[YouHaveFailedMe punish Gido- his lover instead to psychologically break Ian for his disobedience and failure]] resulting in her being [[ForcedTransformation transformed into a hideous creature that can't even speak]]. This results in him [[TookALevelInBadass becoming a Knight]] [[spoiler: [[KlingonPromotion by killing Rapunzel]].]] And becomes the 7th strongest overall after the six that participated in the sixth final Match.

Snow's caretaker, the court clown of Snow's kingdom and the 12th strongest Knight [[spoiler: 11th prior to Ian's inclusion into the group]].

[[spoiler: The former leader of the Thief Guild of Liberia who appointed Nanashi as his successor]] And the 8th [[spoiler: previously 7th prior to Ian's inclusion into the group]] strongest Knight overall,

The 10th [[spoiler: previously 9th prior to Ian's inclusion into the group]] strongest Knight and a PsychoSupporter of Phantom.

The 11th strongest Knight [[spoiler: previously 10th prior to Ian's inclusion into the group]], he is a puppet given life by Diana to attack Dorothy during the War games.

The 12th strongest Knight, Girom's older sister and an insane, kill-happy BloodKnight even by [[EvenEvilHasStandards the Knights' standards]]. [[spoiler: A short while after losing to Dorothy after the 5th match, she is executed for her antics and replaced by Ian.]]

One of the Bishops that fought in the fourth battle in the War Games. Nanashi took pity on her in order to spare her from Rapunzel's BadBoss tendencies, allowing for a draw. [[spoiler: [[YankTheDogsChain Unfortunately Girom decided to kill her anyway]].]]

A pawn associated with Ian, revealed to be his lover. [[spoiler: Halloween had Chimera turn Gido into a hideous beast/human hybrid to motivate Ian with ThePowerOfHate. He manages to rescue her after coming to his senses with Ginta's help.]]

The Queen of the Chess Pieces, the queen of Lestava, Snow's WickedStepmother [[spoiler:and Dorothy's older sister.]] [[spoiler:Prior to the series, Diana was [[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashed by Caldia's Orb into stealing a majority of Arms, rescuing Phantom and founding the Chess Pieces]].]] She would [[PlayingBothSides act as both the leader of the Chess Pieces and the Cross Guard]] [[VillainWithGoodPublicity as the latter's beloved queen]] in the war six years ago. Her [[EvilAllAlong greedy nature gradually was exposed and she dropped her facade entirely to once again attempt control of Mar Heaven]].

* YouHaveFailedMe: [[spoiler:Invokes one to Phantom after he loses to Ginta. Although she doesn't kill him but just leave him to his own device, he pretty much commits assisted suicide thereafter.]]

The [[DecoyLeader public leader of the Chess Pieces's main attack force]] and the strongest Knight of them all and serves as the main villain of the series. He is an immortal being that come back to life after getting killed hence he continues to reign terror on MAR Heaven for many years. The first War Games, he fought against Ginta’s father Danna and they both kill each other in the end. However, it proved futile as six years later, he is revived and continues the same hell that he did six years ago only to fight his enemies’ son Ginta. Phantom loves staying on the sidelines to watch the fights and loves to see how Ginta will grow. Phantom has a huge obsession with Alviss and constantly tries to get him join his side by force. What happens to him depends on the anime and manga.

The true Leader of the the Chess Pieces. [[spoiler: Initially, a sentient orb of [[MadeOfEvil all of humanity's evil from either Mar Heaven or Ginta's World]] [[AdaptionalBackstoryChange depending on the version of the series you watch]] until he manages to break free through the manipulation of [[BrainWashedAndCrazy Phantom and Diana]] and founding the Chess Pieces. He initially was [[DemonicPossession in Babbo's body]] until he [[BodySurf took Danna, the leader of the Cross-Guard and Ginta's father's body for his own.]] He does nothing until his entire army is defeated. His fate differs between medium; in the manga, he's beaten defeated quickly after Phantom and Diana once Ginta manages to force him out of Danna's body; in the anime, he manages to engage in a long battle in which he manages to kill almost all of Team MÄR until he is defeated by Ginta once and for all, after traveling to Ginta's homeward.]]
