Renato is one of the main character in the movie, the other one being Paolo. This couple of troublemakers goes from place to place, enrolling themselves in different kind of jobs, causing all kind of troubles to anybody crossing path with them. Renato is more the leading type (driving the ambulance when they are nurses or piloting the plane when they manage an airline or even suggesting they should split the couple for certain activities like during the Santas' section) and he is both unaware and completely careless of the consequences of his actions or the actions he asks Paolo to execute. He basically lacks any form of empathy for the people they are messing with. This is usually both physical pain or verbal abuse. He is particularly keen to insult their victims, for example making them feel like they are incompetent while him and Paolo are the "experts" (for example this happens when they are nurses or when they are piloting the plane). Or he uses to belittle various other characters targeting their physical appearance (weight, stature, blindness).
Paolo is the other half of the couple. He is more subdued than Renato and he is used to obey orders and execute actions no question asked. Although mostly unaware of the consequences of his actions, he has some form of empathy for their victims, especially when in physical pain. He also usually avoid verbal abuse and even apologize for certain situations.
This is the only recurring character apart from the leading couple. He is introduced in the first episode when he is helping the victim of an accident while waiting for the ambulance. Unfortunately the ambulance is driven by Paolo and Renato that run over him. From this moment this poor man entangles with them and becomes victim of their abuses. The whole first episode is dedicated to his translation to the hospital while he tries to clarify the situation. Unfortunately for him, he is mixed up and undergoes a breast augmentation surgery. This character is back as one of the passengers on Paolo and Renato's plane. This time he has to endure physical and verbal abuse together with the rest of the bunch. Anyway, once he remains the only surviving passenger he is accidentally stripped to his underwear, reveling a large pair of breasts supported by a lacy black bra. While he is trying not to fall from the plane, Paolo Villaggio attempts to save him but mostly manages to grope him and make him fall. The lawyer miraculously survives the fall and ends up on a stretcher in Casablanca hospital. He is soon translated to a surgery room.
