Commander of the [[{{Mooks}} Army of Revolt]]. After successfully capturing the Emerald City, she summoned [[WickedWitch Mombi]] to help defend it against counterattack by former King Scarecrow and Emperor Tin Woodman. Ultimately she had to deal with Glinda the Good in her drive to restore the throne to its [[RightfulKingReturns rightful heir]]. Jinjur was defeated and resigned herself to settling down with a nice Munchkin farmer, but she makes it clear that ''she'' wears the pants in the family.

family. In later books, she lived on the farm alone, contented with her new life and helping the heroes.

* CallToAgriculture: Like many soldiers, Jinjur follows the traditional pattern of becoming a farmer after her revolt is defeated, in this case a dairy farmer.

* FourStarBadass: Self-proclaimed general she might be, she's the only antagonist to conquer the Emerald City and sit on its throne.

* LadyOfWar: She's the only would-be conqueror who captured the Emerald City.

* AdaptationSpeciesChange: A variation. He's drawn as a Yorkshire or Carin Terrier in the first book but the new artist draws him as a Boston Terrier from then on. Unusually, this change apparently happened in-universe as he will occasionally [[MeetYourEarlyInstallmentWeirdness be shown in flashbacks and art of Dorothy's first visit to Oz as a Cairn or Yorkie]].

* TooStupidToLive: Seeing as he lives in a magical land with evil witches, and his axe kept beyond his control chopping his limbs off, it probably would have been best to toss the axe and get another job. Some adaptations have acknowledged this issue by suggesting that the curse was on the Woodman himself rather than the axe, so just getting rid of the axe wouldn't have helped him.

* AmbitionIsEvil: Or, in Ann's case, at least very foolish. Crosses into TooStupidToLive territory when she actually muses trying to conquer the Great Jinjin. The Shaggy Man gives that idea exactly the respect it deserves -- none.

The ruler of a strange land at the other end of the Hollow Tube that cuts all the way through the Earth, where everybody is a King or a Queen save him, the Private Citizen. He's also an extremely powerful fairy whose reputation is known throughout Oz, and who Ruggedo tries to cross -- despite [[TooStupidToLive being repeatedly warned]] -- by literally dumping the protagonists on him through the Tube. For the Nome King, it was a ''really'' [[ThisIsGonnaSuck Bad idea.]]

* FlatEarthAtheist: It's hinted that Em doesn't exactly disbelieve in things like fairies and witches, but that they don't exist anymore. Henry seems to believe Dorothy's adventures in Oz are simply dreams, saying her mother was similar, and Em seems to agree on this point. Dorothy magically appearing back from her adventures does nothing to deter this. It's implied Ozma doesn't give them any fair warning after finally bringing them to Oz since they've already refused to believe everything's Dorothy previously told them.

* AmbiguouslyRelated: Fans of the book usually interpret Uncle Henry and Dorothy's mother as brother and sister. Uncle Henry once compares Dorothy to her mother, suggesting he knew her. It also helps that Zeb says he's related to Dorothy through her "Uncle Henry's wife's sister," which would be redundant if Dorothy and Em were blood relatives.

* TheStoic: Uncle Henry is pragmatic and serious, seldom showing much emotion -- though there are notable exceptions to this rule.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: Implied. While she accepts Nick after he becomes tin, it's for reasons like how she won't need to cook for him, since he no longer needs to eat, and won't tire out, meaning he can take her dancing as much as she wants. Notably, by the time the Tin Woodman has reunited with her, she's shown to be something of a shrew, using Chopfyt for manual labor.
