Cunning Linguist: Having spent the majority of his time absorbing the knowledge of the Borderlands, Elliot becomes fluent in elvish and competent in merfolk language.
The Gadfly: Elliot is almost incapable of not provoking people when he speaks. It's a flaw he (slowly) works on throughout the story.
Good Is Not Nice: While ultimately wanting for the success of the Border Guard, he checks off a lot of established points in the trope. Instances include his consistent arrogance towards Luke, his dismissal of the concerns of others, his superiority complex driven by his intellect, his loner attitude, and his asocial upbringing.
Pacifist: Elliot is opposed to using violence to solve problems, especially problems between different races in the Borderlands. He is also quite stubborn and resourceful when it comes to actually finding peaceful alternatives to violence, rather than just preaching for people to stop.
The Smart Guy: Out of the main trio, Elliot is the one who is most book savvy and spends the most time in the library. When trouble is brewing on the horizon, checking the books is usually his go-to first step, and usually what winds up saving the day.
