The Alvarez Empire is a colossal military superpower located on Alakitasia, the neighboring continent to Ishgal. Rising tensions with the nation following the destruction of the Magic Council's deterrent weapons have sparked worries of war, and for currently unknown reasons, the Empire seems hell-bent on capturing Lumen Histoire, Fairy Tail's ultimate treasure. A previous attempt at an invasion of Ishgal ended in failure due to the weapons of the Magic Council, but with the Council being killed and Face destroyed, war seems all but inevitable following the second TimeSkip.

Alvarez attempted to invade Ishgal ten years ago, but were forced to call it off once the Magic Council threatened to invoke their deterrent weapons, [[KillSat Etherion]] and [[TheMagicGoesAway Face]]. With both weapons out of commission, Alvarez is back, and desires to take the last thing truly standing between them and global supremacy: Lumen Histoire.
----
* AboveGoodAndEvil: Alvarez makes no distinction between light and dark magic. [[spoiler: The elite guard doesn't even seem to care that their emperor can kill anything around him.]]
* AntagonistAbilities: Many of the members turns out to have won the SuperpowerLottery in some shape or form.
* BadassArmy: See how many times you'll see the {{Badass}} trope in this page.
* CoolAirship: Alvarez has an entire armada of armed-to-the-teeth air-battleships at its disposal. When they start showing up, there's a MassOhCrap reaction.
* CultureChopSuey: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in that a continent-spanning nation as massive as Alvarez would be incredibly diverse, but in terms of inspirations, Alvarez's government appears to be a take on pre-Magna Carta England (a supremely powerful monarch who can and often does leave the actual governing to a Ministry). Their symbol strongly resembles a FleurDeLis (the symbol of French royalty), and Spriggan is regarded by Ishgar as a Napoleon-esque figure (VillainWithGoodPublicity to his people, TheDreaded by everyone else). The desert region is clearly based on ancient Persia, with Ajeel's attacks called out in [[GratuitousForeignLanguage Gratuitous Arabic]], and the capital, Vistarion, has architecture that appears to be based on a mixture of Renaissance-era Italy, Germany, and France. They also celebrate "Respect for the Aged Day," a RealLife holiday celebrated in Japan, something that apparently isn't celebrated in Ishgal.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Their opening strike against Magnolia is made up of [[spoiler:a fleet of '''fifty''' full-sized air-battleships flying higher than conventional radar systems can detect, and dropping right down on top of all of them. Once Fairy Tail retaliates with the Dragon Slayers on with their Exceeds and [[WaveMotionGun Jupiter]], it's quickly revealed that this was a feint; Zeref actually had '''three hundred more''' ships converging from all sides, another army poking a hole in Freed's barrier, and an incoming MillionMookMarch.]] This is actually [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] because [[spoiler:Zeref knows just how brilliant of a strategist Mavis is, and wanted to throw her off of her game by forcing her to tip her hand early and then turn her playbook on its head.]]
* TheDreaded: They are the Magic Council's worst nightmare in almost every way: The Empire was founded when light and dark guilds put aside their differences to overthrow their own government and rule for themselves, something the Council has always feared could happen in Ishgal. With Ishgal not having united like Alakitasia, they knew they'd never have a chance in all-out war.
** Even the token ThisIsWar scene had ''Natsu'' admit to being afraid, and this time around, the RousingSpeech was more of a pep talk than an attempt to get Fairy Tail pumped up.
** The Spriggan 12 are especially feared by Ishgal since each of them is on par with the Four Gods, the strongest officially recognized mages Ishgal has to offer. Things only got worse after [[spoiler:Isghar's strongest mage God Serena defected to their ranks.]]
** Emperor Spriggan is the most Dreaded one of them all even though Ishgal doesn't actually know much about him [[spoiler:like the fact that he's Zeref]], since he's someone powerful and ruthless enough to unite 730 guilds into an empire. If they knew the spoilered bit they would be even more terrified of him.
* TheEmpire: Alvarez has conquered the entire continent of Alakitasia after overthrowing their equivalent of the Magic Council, and they have their eyes set on Ishgal.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Emperor Spriggan claims that Alvarez was originally a tiny country when he first set it up. Then he kept absorbing more and more guilds into it. Several hundred years later, it's become a continent-wide superpower.
* GodzillaThreshold: An invasion from the Empire is one of the only reasons the Magic Council would have even considered deploying [[KillSat Etherion]] or [[TheMagicGoesAway Face]]. Unfortunately, the past arcs' antagonists' actions removed those weapons from the playing field.
%%* KnightOfCerebus: They could very well be the first enemies in the series this side of Acnologia that Fairy Tail has been shown to fear. Even the token ThisIsWar scene had ''Natsu'' admit to being afraid, and this time around, the RousingSpeech was more of a pep talk than an attempt to get Fairy Tail pumped up. The reason for this was the fact that just one member of the QuirkyMinibossSquad wiped the floor with all of Team Natsu at once, and as Lucy noted, this time, they're going up against [[spoiler:Zeref himself]]. The dread in the air was so bad that [[BigGood Mavis]] felt they finally had earned the right to know what [[spoiler:Zeref]] wants with Lumen Histoire, and her history with him.
* {{Mooks}}: Like the Baram Alliance or the Fiore Kingdom, they have a large amount of soldiers at their disposal.
* NotSoDifferent: So far quite a few of the Spriggan members we have seen show traits in common with Fairy Tail.
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: With the Balam Alliance gone, these guys, headed by [[spoiler:Zeref himself]], make them look like child's play.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Called 'Alvarez' or 'Arbaless' in the early translations.
** It could also be a relation to an Arbalest.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: Their strategy for the Ishgal invasion, starting with Magnolia. When Spriggan said they were going all out in this one, he was '''''not''''' kidding. [[spoiler:His first wave against Magnolia? Airships dropping down right on top of them, bypassing their radar systems by flying at high altitudes. Fairy Tail has a MassOhCrap reaction, knowing that just ''one'' of them would have been enough to take on the guild. [[FlauntingYourFleets They sent fifty.]] And Makarov knows that's just a small fraction of their armada.]]
** [[spoiler: As it turns out Makarov wasn't exaggerating because we get to see the Armada that attacks Magnolia in chapter 455. Not only does the first wave contain three members of the Spriggan 12 (Ajeel, Brandish and Wall) but the second and third waves, which attack the North and South respectively, are comprised of [[OhCrap 300 Air Cruizers and 3 Spriggen Twelve Members each]]. And the top it all of a ''massive'' force of [[MillionMookMarch over a million men]] is coming to attack the east side of Magnolia]]. Kalim, of Ajeel's army, {{lampshades}} that it fells like there sending an army to crush an ant in comparison.
* WouldHurtAChild: Their {{mooks}} would, anyway. [[BerserkButton Witnessing this]] is what causes Team Natsu to have their first hostile encounter with them.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Emperor Spriggan]]
!! Emperor Spriggan
The mysterious ruler of the Albereth Empire.

----
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: He ''single-handedly'' turned Alvarez from a small city-state into a massive, continent-spanning superpower, and it's implied that a good portion of it, if not all of it, was done through pure martial force. The Spriggan 12 follow him seemingly for this reason alone; most of them don't even get along with each other, and are united purely by their respect and admiration for the Emperor.
* BenevolentBoss: He's shown to have a very friendly relationship with the Spriggan 12, and the citizens of the Empire are genuinely happy to see him return. His LackOfEmpathy below is [[spoiler:something he forces himself to feel in order to protect them from Ankhseram's Curse]].
* TheEmperor: The current emperor of the Alvarez Empire.
* EvilOverlord: Subverted. He is clearly considered supreme among the rest of his subjects, and each member of his PraetorianGuard could be considered a candidate for TheArchmage. Makarov is surprised to find he is friendly and willing to negotiate, and his subjects are genuinely happy to see him return.
* FrontLineGeneral: Marches right alongside his soldiers during the invasion of Fiore. Much to [[spoiler:Mavis']] chagrin.
* JustAsPlanned: Says he expected, and even counted on [[spoiler:Ajeel and Brandish]] losing, but also states that Fairy Tail's weakness is their ThouShaltNotKill policy, possibly implying he's got a BatmanGambit up his sleeve.
* KnightOfCerebus: His subordinates might not seem that scary compared to the likes of Tartaros, but the fact they are being lead into war by [[spoiler: Zeref is nothing to laugh at]].
* LackOfEmpathy: He admits to treating his people like pawns in a game of chess. [[spoiler:Actually [[JustifiedTrope Justified]]. This is how Zeref protects his own subjects from his curse.]]
* MeaningfulName: Spriggans are depicted as grotesquely ugly, and said to be found at old ruins and barrows guarding buried treasure and generally acting as fairy bodyguards. They were also said to be busy thieves. The emperor wants Lumen Histoire [[spoiler: which houses a fairy inside]]. The Emperor even refered to himself as "the ugly fairy".
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Yajeel claims that the Emperor is one. Supposedly, the Spriggan 12 are the ones who were really eager to invade Ishgal, with Spriggan having kept the peace for years.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Beloved by the people of Alvarez. [[TheDreaded Not so much in Ishgal.]] [[spoiler:And his elite bodyguards are clearly aware of his death curse, so maybe the people of the empire are much more open-minded and understanding.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: He is someone who's been seen before in the story. [[spoiler:It's Zeref himself]]. Overlaps with [[spoiler:HijackedByGanon]].

[[/folder]]

!! Spriggan 12
[[folder:In General]]
Also known as the Twelve Shields, they are the elite bodyguards and head enforcers of Emperor Spriggan. Each one is considered to be on par with the strongest of the Ten Wizard Saints of Ishgal (who is now also on their side).
----
* BadassCrew: Each one is said to about equal in power to the strongest mage in Ishgar [[spoiler:(who's now on their side too). Let´s analyze them]].
** Brandish's [[spoiler: [[TheForceIsStrongWithThisOne enormous magic power was enough to scare both Natsu and Gray]], who previously had no hesitation in facing dreaded villains like Hades or Mard Geer. She is capable of [[SizeShifter altering the size of anything, both objects and living beings. She shrank an entire island so fast that at first thought it seemed it had vanished]].]]
** Ajeel Raml [[spoiler: has a [[DishingOutDirt remarkable control over sand, from creating sandpits, monsters, turning himself into sand and even summon a sandstorm big enough to envelop all of Magnolia.]] He can also [[MakeThemRot use his sand to drain the moisture from anything he touches.]] He would have killed Natsu's team and Makarov hadn´t Laxus showed up and he was ''seconds'' from chopping Erza's head off but he was distracted by Bisca firing Jupiter cannon.]]
** Wall Eehto [[spoiler: can scan [[FlawExploitation his enemies' weaknesses]] and either adapt himself to become a more suitable fighter or [[MookMaker create soldiers that exploit such weaknesses]]. Just one of his creations was capable of giving a tough fight against Laxus's team and he himself could keep up with Laxus. He is a literal WalkingArmory as he can summon a MacrossMissileMassacre, a WaveMotionTuningFork and a WaveMotionGun that would have destroyed Fairy Tail's headquarts ''400 Km'' away hadn´t Christina blocked the blast. Not to mention he was also DangerouslyGenreSavvy enough to surpass his own weakness.]]
** God Serena [[spoiler: who was ranked as the strongest wizard of all Ishgar possesses ''[[UpToEleven eight dragon-slayer types of magic]]''. He, alongside August and Jacob, single-handely destroyed all of Boscos' magic guilds and then he proceeded to give a nearly CurbStompBattle on the Four Gods of Ishgar without any considerable injury.]]
** Dimaria Yesta [[spoiler: much like Brandish, has also [[TheForceIsStrongWithThisOne a great magic power]], big enough to give a massive OhCrap moment in the entire battlefield. She is a MasterSwordswoman that can cut people's clothes without even touching the skin. She is also a TimeMaster that can [[TimeStandsStill ''stop time'']] and make [[AgonyBeam her enemies feel all the pain they have experienced throughout their entire lives]]. And on top of all that she can use her [[OneWingedAngel Take Over]] to obtain [[PhysicalGod the powers of Chronos the God of Time]], and then she proceeds to nearly kill Carla, which only fails because Ultear freezed her in time. Wendy's [[SuperMode Dragon Force]] couldn't even hurt her in this state and in order to beat her, Sherria had to use [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique Third Origin, that amplifies her magic but at the cost that she could never use magic again]].]]
** Jacob Lessio [[spoiler: is an [[ProfessionalKiller expert in the arts of assassination]], in such that level that he doesn't require [[OneManArmy underlings]] or even to hide to kill his targets. He has {{Invisibility}} magic, thus being capable of turning either himself or his weapons invisible and can also [[YouCanSeeMe see those that are invisible to normal people's eyes, like Mavis]]. He, alongside August and God Serena were more than capable of destroying all of Boscos' magic guilds. He later calmly enters Fairy Tail Headquarters, [[SpaceMaster teleports '''everyone''' (except Mavis, Lucy, Happy and Natsu) to another dimension, which can be fatal]], and practically had the upper hand against both Natsu and Lucy in [[KungFuWizard hand-to-hand combat]]. The only reason he lost was [[NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished because he did the honorable thing of saving two of his comrades]], which allowed Lucy to nullify his magic.]]
** Neinhart [[spoiler: is a ''very'' high level telepath who can scan a person's memories in a matter of moments. From there he can create fully corporeal specters of whoever a person once knew to serve his bidding, and he can project this magic over an entire city if he wants to. These aren't just illusions either, they also have the same memories, personalities, and can even use the same magic they had back then. Even people that have been confirmed to have died can be recreated by his magic, from Zancrow, Azuma, and Master Hades of Grimoire Heart, to Kyouka, Keyes, and Ezel of Tartaros.]]
* BloodKnight: Some seem quite impatient to start a war.
* BodyguardingABadass: When the Emperor is [[spoiler:the Black Wizard Zeref]], any kind of bodyguard and protector automatically become this.
* BodyguardBabes: Brandish, [=DiMaria=], and Irene definitely count, all being ''very'' attractive in addition to being [[SuperpowerLottery stupidly powerful]].
* EqualOpportunityEvil: The Spriggan 12 are composed of people from various places and even non-humans. Ajeel most likely comes from a desert-like region, [[spoiler: Dimaria is a descendant from the people of Mildian, most likely the birthplace of Zeref; Wall is not a human but instead a Machias (sentient machine with magic), Brandish, God Serena and Irene came from Ishgar, the very continent they seek to destroy.]] The others must also came from the various region of the empire. [[spoiler: Considering that their emperor is [[TheDreaded Zeref]], it is actually easy to see why he would allow anyone join the ranks.]]
* HotBlooded: Yajeel describes them as such. He claims that they were the ones most eager to go to war with Ishgal, while Emperor Spriggan was keeping them in line.
* IFightForTheStrongestSide: Implied. Yajeel noted that Spriggan is not only the only person they respect, but the only one who is physically capable of keeping them in line. They only follow him for the power and the influence, and it's not like Spriggan ''[[BodyguardingABadass needs]]'' the protection.
* OneWingedAngel: A few of the twelve have their own special transformations in order to enhance their powers and magic.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Most of them seem to be differentiated from past villains not by having ancient, Lost Magic (like the Seven Kin of Purgatory) or dirty, underhanded tactics and creative uses of magic (like the Etherious demons), but by having sheer magical power and skill, using spells that are on such a wide scale that we have never seen before.
* PraetorianGuard: They are 12 hand-picked guards of Emperor Spriggan. Each are implied to be on the level of the Four Heavenly Kings of Ishgal.
* {{Pride}}: It might be their greatest weakness. It usually seem the members of the Spriggan 12 are pretty arrogant during their battles not taking into account how strong their enemy has become over the series.
* QuirkyMinibossSquad: Like the Nine Demon Gates they seem to be on a much higher level than other squads in this series.
** Some of them even have squads of their own.
* RedBaron: Each member besides God Serena and Jacob Lessio seems to have an epithet.
* ShoutOut: A possible reference to the twelve titans of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_%28mythology%29 Greek Mythology]].
** Also likely to be [[RuleOfSymbolism a reference to Jesus' twelve disciples]], further cementing the emperor as a DarkMessiah.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: While they serve as the emperor's bodyguards, most of the twelve don't see each other as comrades. [[spoiler: They don't seem saddened after hearing that both Ajeel and Brandish were defeated. In fact, both Dimaria and Wall actually laughed and were going to blow up Fairy Tail, even though Brandish was prisoner there. That said, August protected Ajeel from Laxus' attack, Dimaria and Wall seem to get along well and Jacob was pissed off as he saw his ally God Serena getting killed off by Acnologia, despite the other members of the 12 looking down on him and his Ishgarian roots, not to mention he saved Brandish and Marion without hesitation, which showcases not all of them are completely dismissive of each other.]]
* TheForceIsStrongWithThisOne: Each one of the 12 has an absurd amount of Magic radiating from them, so much that everyone loses composure just by meeting them face-to-face. They are THAT powerful.

[[folder:God Serena]]
!! God Serena
Former top-ranked Wizard Saint and foremost member of the Four Gods of Ishgar. He defected to the Alvarez Empire, becoming one of the Spriggan 12, a group that comprises Emperor Spriggan's elite bodyguards/strongest mages.

[[folder:Brandish μ]]
!!Brandish μ
[[quoteright:217:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/branish_mark_2.jpg]]
One of the Spriggan 12, and the first to be introduced after God Serena as she confronts Fairy Tail's Makarov-rescue team at Caracole Island. She holds the power to alter the size and shape of anything she pleases, whether it be land masses, inanimate objects, or even people. She uses her intimidating magic power to avoid meaningless conflicts whenever she can.
----
* AffablyEvil: While she serves TheEmpire and is somewhat demanding and indifferent, she has a very calm and well-mannered demeanor. She hates troublesome affairs and tus tries to settle things without conflict, trying to dissuade others through words rather than force, as seen when she just gave a warning to Fairy Tail rather than beat them. [[spoiler: Even when she was about to kill Lucy, she felt true remorse for killing the girl that saved her life and apologized with tears, but believed [[RevengeByProxy this was the only way]] to [[YouKilledMyMother avenge her mother]]. She later decides to negotiate with August to repay the debt she has with Lucy.]]
* AntiClimax: For all of the hype surrounding her power, [[spoiler:she gets done in with a chop to the back of the head by Cana after Ajeel's sandstorm triggered Brandish's hay fever. Cana herself was amused by how easy it was.]]
* AntiVillain: While she may treat her subordinates like crap, she's ''easily'' the most sympathetic member of the Empire ([[spoiler:except, perhaps, for [[WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds Zeref]] himself]]). She [[spoiler:bonds with Lucy, saves Natsu's life, and provides valuable intel to Fairy Tail]] after it becomes clear that [[spoiler:her desire for RevengeByProxy against Layla was misplaced]]. When it's all said and done, her only real antagonism towards Fairy Tail stems from the fact that she's [[MyCountryRightOrWrong a proud citizen of Alvarez]] and has no desire to defect and betray the country she calls home.
* BadBoss: She casually erases Marin from existence to make things "even" with Fairy Tail after the latter hurt one of them. Though Marin also somewhat pissed her off by destroying the shop where she wanted to eat, questioning her orders and capturing two of Fairy Tail's wizards. [[spoiler:It turns out that she just shrank him enough so Fairy Tail thought he disappeared, though she considers turning him back to normal an unnecessary chore. It comes back to bite her when he's so resentful over her treatment of him that he infiltrates Fairy Tail headquarters just to strangle her to death while her magic is sealed. This makes a lot more sense once you realize [[FreudianExcuse why she seems to think this is okay.]] ]]
* BadassLongcoat: Complete with a HighCollarOfDoom.
* BerserkButton: Anything concerning [[spoiler:Layla]]. So much so that the moment she realized [[spoiler:Lucy was her daughter]], she dropped her BunnyEarsLawyer tendency and went right for the kill.
* BerserkerTears: As she [[spoiler:chokes Lucy to avenge her mother's death.]]
* BunnyEarsLawyer: One of the Spriggan 12, whose power rivals and perhaps surpasses the Four Gods of Ishgal, and her original reason for showing up was because she wanted some star mango gelato. She freaks out when she realizes that the shop was blown up and starts to walk away depressed. [[YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry Then Marin disobeys her order to let Erza and Lucy go...]]
* CatchPhrase: "It's a pain."
* ChainedByFashion: The straps of her bikini top are made of chains, and connected to the front of what looks like a SlaveCollar. [[spoiler: It makes sense when you consider her relationship with Aquarius.]]
* DeathGlare: [[spoiler: Gives one to Lucy after finding out about her being Layla's daughter.]]
* DefiantCaptive: [[spoiler: After being captured by Fairy Tail, she refuses to answer Lucy's question and instead advises her to [[GetItOverWith kill her and get it over with]]. When Lucy [[ThouShallNotKill refuses]], she [[NotAfraidToDie smiles and claims that she should take this only possible chance to do it]]. Let's remember that Brandish is with magic-sealing handcuffs, in the enemy's headquarters all by herself and her allies are miles away.]]
* DissonantSerenity: Kills Marin about as casually as one would stomp an insect. [[spoiler:She actually just shrank him down to the size of an insect.]]
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: She truly loved her mother. [[spoiler:Her mistakenly believing Layla killed her drove her desire for RevengeByProxy against Lucy. It wasn't Layla; it was actually [[Characters/FairyTailGrimoireHeart Zoldio]].]]
* TheForceIsStrongWithThisOne: Gray said that the magical power he felt from her was "off the charts". Coming from him, that is not light praise.
* FreudianExcuse: She became a country-destroying PersonOfMassDestruction out of [[spoiler:a misguided desire to avenge her mother's death]]. Furthermore, her problems with authority, her fascination with having 'pets,' and the way she treats her subordinates like crap is because, apparently, [[spoiler:Aquarius quite literally treated her like a dog when she was a little girl, to the point where Brandish ''still'' address her as 'Master' and ''thanks her for the privilege of doing so.'']]
* FuroScene: She just walks in Lucy's house to take a bath, not even caring that Lucy is an enemy.
* HairDecoration: Two cross-like things sticking out of her hair, positioned in a way as to resemble horns.
* ItsPersonal: [[spoiler: Brandish initially despises Lucy's mother, Layla. This grudge is enough to cause [[ReluctantWarrior Brandish]] to shrink a house with [[RevengeByProxy her daughter Lucy]] inside, in order to kill her on the spot. Chapter 467 reveals that her mother was the given the key of Aquarius from and supposedly killed in order to get it back, though the very next chapter reveals that Layla was MistakenForMurderer, and the real culprit was Zoldio, who was undergoing his StartOfDarkness.]]
* LetsGetDangerous: She's a BunnyEarsLawyer who was more concerned about getting ice cream than catching a spy, openly complains to Spriggan's face about having to do her job, and wanted to take a bath (in an enemy's house, no less) in the middle of a warzone. But the minute she finds the proper motivation, she becomes ''downright terrifying'' and shows that she more than deserves the rank she has.
* {{Misblamed}}: [[spoiler: Pegged that Layla was her mother's killer which is why she's after Lucy. Turns out whomever give her that idea didn't give her the full details as the truth revealed that her mother was actually a close friend of Layla's and she was summoned to Layla's house who was on her deathbed at the time thus couldn't even attack Brandish's mother much less kill her. Nor did Layla have any desire to as she wanted her mother to hold on the Aquarius key till it was time to give to Lucy. No, the true culprit was Zoldio who had ambushed and stabbed her from behind, ironically enough blaming Layla's death on Brandish's mother.]]
* MsFanservice: She has a very shapely figure under an outfit that is practically swimwear, and it's exposed further when her jacket is taken. Macao and Wakaba take the opportunity to ogle her while she's imprisoned. She also had some BathtubBonding with Lucy in the middle of a war.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: No matter how much she may feel [[spoiler:indebted to Lucy]], she says that at the end of the day, she is a citizen of Alvarez and cannot and ''will'' not betray her country.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** [[spoiler: [[BadBoss Her mistreatment of Marin]] may have doomed the entire fight for Alvarez. Marin was capable of disabling any spatial magic, including Erza's, who was powerless against Ajeel. But since she refused to return him to his original size, Lucy was capable of grabbing him and knocking him unconscious. Unless there is another SpaceMaster, Fairy Tail can now use their full magical power.]]
** [[spoiler: While [[PetTheDog saving Natsu's life was a very kind thing to do]], it has once again turned the tables against Alvarez. Her comrade Jacob had just got rid of nearly all of Fairy Tail, leaving only Mavis, Happy and Lucy. He would have killed Lucy hadn´t Natsu blocked his knife.]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: She can turn an entire island into anything from a mountain to a mere footstep at will with marginal effort.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler: She diminishes the size of Natsu's tumor, therefore removing its danger, after seeing the despair in Lucy's face. This was most likely a way to redeem herself after trying to kill her. Afterwards [[ThinkNothingOfIt she asks to return to her cell and denies any desire to become Lucy's friend.]]]]
* PunchClockVillain: Unlike the other Spriggan 12 she didn't seem excited when their emperor planned to attack Ishgal, and Makarov confirmed that she doesn't like fighting. She even lets Fairy Tail go after they beat Alvarez's troops, but not before warning them not to come to the empire. The only reason she will follow her emperor's goal because of her loyalty towards him, and because, simply put, [[MyCountryRightOrWrong Alvarez is her home]].
* RedBaron: [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast The Nation Breaker]].
* ReluctantWarrior: She hates fighting, but once the gloves come off, she can [[PersonOfMassDestruction wipe an entire country off the map]]. She ''is'' loyal to Spriggan, however, and states that she will follow his orders regardless of how much she may complain about doing so.
* RevengeByProxy: The ''moment'' Brandish found out [[spoiler:Lucy was related to Layla]], she immediately tried to kill her by crushing her with her own house.
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler: Lucy tries to make Brandish reveal the information she knows about her mother. Brandish refuses stating they should kill her while they have the chance]].
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Has no problem stripping naked and getting into someone else's bath in the middle of a warzone. Not even in front of Marin.
* SizeShifter: Her magic shrinks and enlarges objects.
* SquishyWizard: [[spoiler: A powerful mage that can shrink land mass or objects could not take air pollen and gets knocked out by a simple bonk on the head from Cana. Considering how she caved into Aquarius, even after becoming strong enough to be in the Spriggan 12, it's possible... unless there's [[FreudianExcuse another reason]].]]
* {{Stripperiffic}}: A BadassLongcoat worn over a bikini, all while ChainedByFashion.
* SweetTooth: PlayedForLaughs. She reacted with horror when she finds the gelato stand she wanted to visit was destroyed during Marin's fight with Natsu and Gray.
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: [[spoiler:Is willing to try this with August on Fairy Tail's behalf, out of gratitude to them. The reason for this is because she says straight-up that they have ''no hope'' of defeating him, and that this is their best shot at survival.]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: She ''hates'' [=DiMaria=], and the way she constantly teases her. Her opinion of [[AgentPeacock God Serena]] isn't much better.
* UngratefulBitch: How does she thank [[spoiler:Lucy]] for saving her from [[spoiler:being strangled to death by [[TheDogBitesBack Marin]]]]? By [[spoiler:trying to strangle Lucy to death right after telling her what she wanted to hear about Layla. Though she did claim that it wasn't personal, said she was sorry and was shedding tears, most likely of remorse, while trying to strangle Lucy.]]
** [[spoiler: This later gets subverted as she is willing to negotiate with [[TheDreaded August]] in the name of Fairy Tail for him to pull back, to repay her debt to Lucy.]]
* VillainsOutShopping: Natsu and Gray are so intimidated by her power when she shows up that they're shocked she's only there for a bowl of ice cream after she loses track of a spy.
* WakeUpCallBoss: She quickly shows why the empire should be feared in front of Team Natsu. It was clear Natsu could not just take her out with a quick punch, as she eliminated her subordinate without much care along with shrinking an island.
* WalkingSwimsuitScene: Her outfit consists of a bikini and chains hanging off a collar.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her hair is green, almost neon green.
* YouKilledMyMother: [[spoiler:She ([[MistakenForMurderer mistakenly]]) blames Layla for the death of her mother, believing her mother to have been murdered in cold blood just for the sake of getting Aquarius's Key back in order for Layla to give it to Lucy. Layla is dead, so Brandish doesn't believe she'll ever have closure unless [[RevengeByProxy she kills Lucy]], instead.]]
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: Marin Hollow disobeyed her order to release Erza and Lucy. As a result, Caracole Island became a mountain summit.

A member of the Spriggan 12, he serves as Emperor Spriggan's loyal aide and consul. He is first seen greeting the emperor upon his return to the capital. He is mentioned as using ice-based magic. During the war, he and Emperor Spriggan lead the main Alvarez forces from the West.
----
* BadassLongcoat: Which he wears closed, with a belt over a [[BadassInANiceSuit suit and tie]]. It even has a DualityMotif.
* BalconySpeech: Doubles as a RousingSpeech, given to the MillionMookMarch on the western front.
-->'''Invel''': "March forth, children of Alvarez! Deliver [[spoiler:Fairy Heart]] to His Majesty's hands!"
* {{Bishonen}}: He doesn't appear that old for a general, and he's a LongHairedPrettyBoy who keeps his hair in a ponytail.
* CoolShades: Fitting for a general of an empire.
* TheDragon: Makarov claims that he is the emperor's closest aide and consul. [[spoiler: He even knows that Spriggan is in fact Zeref [[PersonOfMassDestruction with]] [[WalkingWasteland all]] [[InstantDeathRadius that]] [[TheDreaded entails]] and yet follows him unquestionably, showing the amount of trust he has with the black wizard]].
* EvilAlbino: The first real example of one in the series, unless you count Zero, whose [[RedEyesTakeWarning red eyes]] were more like GlowingEyesOfDoom.
* EvilGenius: TheStrategist for the Spriggan 12, and the one Spriggan himself often goes to for council, according to Makarov.
* TheFashionista: Gotta hand it to him, [[spoiler:Zeref]] told him to get him some clothes 'fitting for an emperor,' and he [[BlingOfWar fucking delivered.]]
* FourStarBadass: He's Spriggan's Chief of Staff and chief tactician, as well as the one who commands the bulk of Alvarez's armies.
* AnIcePerson: As his title of "Winter General" suggests and Makarov confirms, he uses ice magic, though exactly what type is unknown.
* {{Megane}}: A classic {{bishonen}} example.
* NoNonsenseNemesis: An extreme stickler for following proper protocol and regulations, as shown when he lectures Yajeel for not doing the paperwork when bringing in a foreign dignitary and giving him an audience with the Emperor. Interestingly, Spriggan himself is very forgiving when it comes to such procedures.
* RedBaron: Winter General.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Invel/Imber
* UndyingLoyalty: To Spriggan, though he does disagree with [[spoiler:Zeref's]] habit of letting breaches in protocol and outright disrespect slide.

A female member in the Spriggan 12, she is famous for triumphing in many a battlefield. She is one of the members who greets the emperor upon his return to the Alvarez capital.
----
* AchillesHeel: [[spoiler:Take Over: God Soul gives [=DiMaria=] the power of a god, but makes her vulnerable to God Slayer magic. As a result, Sherria using her Third Origin and Sky God Slayer Magic is able to defeat her with a few hits.]]
* AgonyBeam: [[spoiler:Her Chronos form has a variant of this that would make Kyôka cringe: "Age Scratch." It forces its victim to relive every ounce of pain they've ever experienced throughout their life, all at once. To someone whose been through hell like Wendy, this was so excruciating that she couldn't move afterward.]]
* {{Badass}}: Anyone that can slice off Kagura's clothes without the latter noticing it deserves this without question. And that's ''before'' she goes OneWingedAngel... [[spoiler: Sherria only beat her thanks to Ultear using a DangerousForbiddenTechnique which disabled her from using magic for the rest of her life.]]
* BadassBoast:
-->'''[=DiMaria=]''': "It seems we must teach this band of fools who do not know their place a lesson... Let us burn the overhwhelming strength of the 12 into their minds!"
* BareYourMidriff: Her top is just a lacy bra that exposes her midriff and her cleavage.
* {{Berserk Button}}: She does not take kindly to [[spoiler: Others being able to interfere with or resist her Age Seal.]]
* {{BFS}}: She wields a sword that is pretty much of the same size as her.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: [[spoiler: After seeing that Sherria is a healer, she sees her as a threat and [[ShootTheMedicFirst decides to kill her]] rather than playing with her like Kagura. Luckily, Wendy saves her.]]
** [[spoiler: She will also show no mercy to [[WouldHurtAChild Wendy and Sherria, despite the fact both are kids]], if they dare to oppose Alvarez.]]
* DarkActionGirl: Makarov claims that she's a multiple-time veteran MagicKnight. When we finally see her in action, ''[[MasterSwordswoman we see why]].''
* EvilBlonde: Her hair is the same shade of gold as her gauntlets.
* EvilCounterpart: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] as one to Erza by Cana to point out that being a knight and a mage [[MagicKnight aren't mutually exclusive]]. [[spoiler: Though once we find out her Take Over magic, she can also be one to Mirajaine.]]
* FingerPokeOfDoom: [[spoiler:How she killed Carla. Or at least, what ''would'' have killed her had Ultear not re-frozen her time at the last second.]]
* TheForceIsStrongWithThisOne: When she shows up, both Lamia Scale and Mermaid Heel stop fighting and [[MassOhCrap shit bricks]] at the amount of magic radiating off of her, with ''[[LadyOfWar Kagura]]'' being visibly intimidated by her.
* HeroKiller: Aside from utterly humiliating [[LadyOfWar Kagura]] in a fight, forcing Mermaid Heel and Lamia Scale into a TacticalWithdrawal from the sheer amount of casualties she and Wall were causing, and sacking Port Hargeon, [[spoiler:she dealt a potentially fatal blow to Carla right in front of Wendy. In fact, Ultear said that unless they use Third Origin, which could cost them the ability to use magic at all, they have ''no hope'' of defeating her. She wasn't kidding, Wendy goes full Dragon Force and can't even make her flinch. [=DiMara=] almost killed her if Sherria hadn't jumped in after finally learning Third Origin.]]
* {{Irony}}:
** In chapter 445, she describes Spriggan as a ''black wind''. [[spoiler: She is later defeated by a technique that is consisted of black winds.]]
** [[spoiler: She, who was blessed by the God of Time Chronos, serves Zeref, a man that was cursed by another, the God of Life and Death Ankhseram. The kicker? She says received her blessing from Chronos' shrine in Mildian, the ''exact same city'' where Zeref received his curse from Ankhseram.]]
* JustToyingWithThem: She [[PowerPerversionPotential enjoys cutting off women's clothes]] a little too much, and their humiliated expressions provides her no small degree of pleasure. She knows when to get her act together, however, and when to skip this entirely and go for the kill.
* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler: She laughed once she heard that Brandish was captured, calling it pitiful and wished to see her pathetic face. Two days later she is defeated and captured, though in a much more miserable state than Brandish. She even reflects back on her words during her captivity and cries in humiliation. [[DidntSeeThatComing Clearly she didn't think it would happen to her]].]]
* MasterSwordswoman: [[spoiler: She crossed swords with Kagura and cut off her clothes without her realizing when the blow landed and without ever inflicting any injury. Let's remember that Kagura came damn close to defeating ''Erza,'' '''the''' definitive ActionGirl of ''Fairy Tail''. Even when it's revealed that she has [[TimeStandsStill time-stopping]] powers, the fact that she still managed to cut those clothes without leaving a mark speaks volumes of her abilities]].
* MeaningfulName: Her RedBaron title, "Valkyrie." In Norse Mythology, Valkyries were servants of Odin, who would choose the souls of valiant soldiers who died in battle, and bring her chosen to Valhalla to prepare them for Ragnarok. [[spoiler:She is a rather enthusiastic supporter of Zeref's plan to start the Dragon King Festival, called "Ragnarok" in Alvarez. And she does indeed have [[PhysicalGod the power of the gods]].]]
* OhCrap: [[spoiler: When Sherria's Third Origin actually manages to knock her out of the Take Over state for a bit, she realizes "God Slayer" isn't just a fancy title. Even more so when she hits Sherria with a full powered attack and it doesn't do anything thanks to Wendy's enchantment, leaving [=DiMaria=] out of attacks.]]
* OneHandedZweihander: Her {{BFS}} is a supersized [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backsword backsword]] designed to be wielded with two hands, and is about as long as she is tall. She ''effortlessly'' wields it with one hand as if it were light as a feather, suggesting she's also got some form of SuperStrength to go with her already impressive lineup of powers.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler: After Ultear appears and frees Wendy, Sherria and Carla, Dimaria unleashes her Take Over: God Soul, which by her own words, gives her the power of Chronos, the God of Time.]]
* OnlySaneEmployee: She certainly thinks she is, when invading Port Hargeon. Wall is a [[LaughingMad cackling]] [[AxCrazy lunatic]], and Neinhart apparently only does his job [[OrcusOnHisThrone on his own time]]. She bemoans the fact that she has to babysit them, and says she wants "Randi back."
* PhysicalGod: [[spoiler:Take Over: God Soul. Yes, the same power the Strauss siblings have, only she can use it on ''deities,'' one of which was Chronos, the God of Time.]]
* PowerPerversionPotential: Her [[MasterSwordswoman swordsmanship]] is so precise that she can slice off somebody's clothes without actually harming them. Which she does. ''Often.''
* PsychoLesbian: Her dialogue with Kagura, like complimenting her kimono before considering that it would be better with some blood, and ultimately deciding that it would be better [[ClothingDamage cut up]]. She also compares Kagura's hairstyle to Brandish, who [=DiMaria=] is quite fixated on. [[spoiler:After cutting off Kagura's clothes, leaving her nearly completed naked, she admires the sight of it. She apparently has a habit of doing this to female opponents, too.]]
* PunyHumans: [[spoiler:Chronos clearly doesn't take humans seriously as opponents. Too bad for her that Sherria has access to her KryptoniteFactor.]]
* RacialRemnant: She's a descendant of the people who inhabited ancient city of Mildian. [[spoiler:Ironically, she now serves the same person whose actions started Mildian down the path of destruction. Whether she knows or just doesn't care is anyone's guess.]]
* RedBaron: Valkyrie or War Princess.
* {{Sadist}}: Of a different stripe than [[Characters/FairyTailTartaros Kyôka]]; while Kyôka takes pleasure in inflicting pain, [=DiMaria=] gets off on humiliation. She takes pleasure in cutting off in people's clothes, taunting them while they're embarrassed, and ''then'' moving in for the kill.
* ShoutOut: Her magic is directly a ShoutOut to [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure Dio Brando's]] own [[spoiler: [[TimeMaster time stopping]] ability. Like Dio she also considered that point when time has stopped to be "her world" and is [[BerserkButton furious]] when someone is able to interfere with it.]]
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her outfit is fairly revealing for someone who frequents battlefields; she wears armor only on her arm.
* SuperpowerLottery: A particularly deadly combination of being a MasterSwordswoman and a [[spoiler:TimeMaster]]. Combine the ability to wield a {{BFS}} one-handed so precisely that she can cut off somebody's clothes without harming them [[spoiler:with the ability to ''freeze time'' in an instant]] and it's no wonder why she's got a reputation as a OneWomanArmy. And all of this is before she [[spoiler:shows her [[PhysicalGod true power]]...]]
* SuperToughness: It seems pretty weird that a veteran of many wars like her doesn't use armor. [[spoiler: [[ArmorIsUseless She actually doesn't need it]], considering that she took a Dragon Force-enhanced kick from Wendy in the face and later a combined attack from Sherria and Wendy, without neither leaving a scratch. In her OneWingedAngel form, Wendy's attacks while using Dragon Force don´t even make her fall back a little.]]
* TheTease: Her teasing of Brandish is more innocent and obviously less suggestive, but her teasing of Kagura was much more flirtatious in nature, apparently as a way to psyche her out. [[TacticalWithdrawal It worked.]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: She and Brandish do ''not'' get along. [=DiMaria=]'s teasing of her is more playful in nature, however, and she mockingly refers to Brandish as 'Randi.' [[spoiler:She actually laughs when she learns from Wall that Brandish was taken captive]].
** It is debatable if Dimaria's feelings towards Brandish are of affection (even if somewhat twisted due to her PsychoLesbian personality), rivalry or a mix of both. [[spoiler: During the meeting before the war, she seemed somewhat dissapointed that she and Brandish would never become friends.]]
* TimeMaster: [[spoiler: Her magic is the ability to [[TimeStandsStill stop time itself]]. She claims to be a descendant from the people of the ancient capital of time Mildean. She can also make her enemies recall all the pain time etched into their bodies.]].
* TsurimeEyes: Fitting for a DarkActionGirl.
* WarriorPoet: She refers to Spriggan as a "black wind storm that brings death," adding that the spring wind doesn't suit him.
* WickedCultured: In her first appearence she shows to be a WarriorPoet. While sailing towards Hargeon, she asks Wall to stop laughing saying he was ruining the sounds of the waves; later she thanks him for not destroying such nice town and admires Kagura's kimono.
* WouldHurtAChild: [[spoiler: She warns Sherria and Wendy that a battlefield is not a place for children like them. When Wendy says that they take back the port no matter what, Dimaria assures that she will show no mercy. And she [[AgonyBeam doesn't]].]]

[[folder:Ajeel Raml]]
!!Ajeel Raml
[[quoteright:217:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ajeel_mark_2.jpg]]

A male member of the Spriggan 12 whose arrogant and bloodthirsty disposition leads him to several early skirmishes with Fairy Tail. He is one of the four Spriggans who greets the emperor upon his return to the capital. He is a master-level user of sand magic.
----

* AchillesHeel: He, like Juvia, is virtually impervious to most physical attacks due to his ability to turn his body into sand, as well as turn anything else that touches him into sand. He's also powerful enough to NoSell a shot from ''[[WaveMotionGun Jupiter]]''. [[spoiler:Ironically, Juvia would have given him some serious trouble, seeing as how his weakness is water, due to what happens when you get sand wet. Erza exploits this by using a Requip that gives her a sword made out of water. Otherwise, he'd be virtually unstoppable.]]
* AGodIAm: Proclaims this when he uses his ultimate move and tries to get Erza to claim him as one.
* AnimeHair: Long, propped up spiky hair.
* [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Arrogant Wizard Guy]]: While he was impressed by Team Natsu he clearly does not think they could be much of a threat to Alvarez. In fact, he outright thinks invading Ishgar would be a walk in the park if God Serena was the best they could offer, to the point he actually asks if he can just go ''by himself''.
* ATwinkleInTheSky: How he is defeated by Erza.
* AwesomeButImpractical: His other ultimate ability, Sand World, is exactly what it sounds like: A gigantic sandstorm that can envelope an entire city. Not only is the potential for FriendlyFire incredibly high, it reduces visibility to practically zero, including for himself. [[spoiler:This leads to his undoing, as he couldn't see Erza using her Morning Star armor as a beacon for Bisca to hit him with Jupiter, which he didn't see coming until it was far too late.]]
* {{Badass}}: Fought Team Natsu, Makarov, and Mest easily and was going to kill them easily. [[spoiler: He even took a attack from [[TheAce Laxus]] and was barely hurt by it. Though he had the help of August for this last bit]]. The only real reason he lost to Erza was because [[BigDamnHeroes Bisca shot him with]] [[WaveMotionGun Jupiter cannon]], distracting him for the crucial moment she needed to finish him.
* BadassBoast:
-->'''Ajeel''': "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, Fairy Tail! Judgment day has cometh!"[[note]]Said while [[FlauntingYourFleets fifty armed-to-the-teeth airships]] descend from the clouds, all trained on Magnolia.[[/note]]
* BerserkButton: For some reason Erza cutting his ship down the middle really set him off, he lost his SlasherSmile and became completely livid.
* BlackDudeDiesFirst: [[spoiler:The only member of the Spriggan 12 from the Empire's desert regions, and the first one to be defeated outright. Granted, we still haven't seen what at least four others look like, yet, counting the ones wearing masks.]]
* BloodKnight: He seems to be really eager for a fight.
* CatchPhrase: "Nice".
* CurbStompBattle: He would have outright killed Team Natsu had TheCavalry not arrived. The entire fight, he only took one punch to the face, and all it accomplished was getting him to be pleasantly surprised that something actually managed to hurt him somewhat. You know it's bad when ''Erza'' gives the order to retreat.
* DishingOutDirt: Of the "sandman" variety. His magic allows him to reduce swords into sand, make monsters from the sand, and even create a huge sandpit to swallow his enemies. He also used his sand to find where Team Fairy Tail was so he could ambush them. He can even create a sandstorm big enough to envelop the entire city of Magnolia.
* {{Expy}}: Let's see: an overconfident guy that underestimates his opponents, can control sand (even becoming sand) and [[spoiler: is sent flying after being defeated]]. [[Manga/OnePiece Crocodile?]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Oh sure, his sandstorm has a good mile radius on it but, not only does it affect his allies it meant he likewise couldn't see anything around him save for what's in front of him. Erza takes advantage of this by donning an armor that emits light, giving Bisca a beacon on where to shoot. By the time Ajeel realizes what's happened, the cannon shot slams into him and gives Erza the opening she needs to finish him off.
* KungFuWizard: Anyone who can go toe to toe with Erza in hand-to-hand combat and ''win'' is this by default. It was only after she exploited his AchillesHeel that she put a dent in him, and even that only worked for a little while.
* LightningBruiser: Aside from his [[PersonOfMassDestruction extremely potent magic]], he's also an extremely agile and talented hand-to-hand fighter, able to outpace ''Erza'' in hand-to-hand combat, with her unable to even scratch him while he pummels her. Keep in mind, she's a walking armory, and he's unarmed.
* MakeThemRot: His ultimate ability, 'Desiccation,' makes his [[PersonOfMassDestruction already deadly]] magic even more destructive, by giving it a particularly nasty CollisionDamage side-effect that drains the moisture out of anything and everything the sand touches, including human beings. That's right, touch his sand long enough while this is active, and [[BodyHorror you could end up mummified]].
* MeaningfulName: His name in Arabic means ''quicksand''.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: [[spoiler: The sandstorm he cast over Magnolia ultimately disperses the pollen which Brandish is allergic to, distracting her from the fight and giving Cana an opening to knock her unconscious.]]
* OhCrap: When he sees Bisca firing the Jupiter Cannon in his direction admist his sandstorm and having no time to dodge it.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: He can conjure sand pits large enough to swallow entire cities, as well as a huge wave of sand that can suck people dry of moisture. He could be up there with [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Gaara]] in terms of sand devastation.
* RedBaron: Desert King.
* ScaryBlackMan: Though he appears less AmbiguouslyBrown and more the verse's equivalent of Middle-Eastern, at least when we see him in color.
* ShoutOut: One translation has his name as [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Azir]]. [[VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends And his title and powers sound familiar]].
* SlasherSmile: His EstablishingCharacterMoment has him with this expression. It never left [[spoiler:save when he was about to get nuked by Laxus, and even then it was back once it was clear he survived]].
* SuperToughness: It took him [[spoiler:being nearly disemboweled by Erza, being hit by freaking ''[[WaveMotionGun Jupiter]]'', and then being hit TwinkleInTheSky-style by Erza again while exploiting his AchillesHeel]] for him to finally go down. And according to Spriggan, even ''that'' didn't kill him!
* SwallowedWhole: His Ant Lion Pit spell does this.
* ThisCannotBe: Expresses this as his last words before being taken out by a "lowly" soldier like Erza.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Completely looks down on Erza when she warns him not to take her lightly, despite only gaining the advantage due to [[spoiler:[[SpaceMaster Marin Hollow's]]]] spell in effect. Once it was stopped and Erza starts managing to get hits in, he has to resort to using his ultimate move just to keep the advantage, and while he does come dangerously close to winning with it, that cocky demeanor of his winds up costing him dearly.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: The first member of the Twelve to qualify.

A wise and cryptic elderly man feared by both enemy and ally alike for his purported mastery of all types of magic, he is first seen greeting the emperor upon the latter's return to the capital. He seems to be aware of the emperor's plan to create the Dragon King Festival or Ragnarok.
----
* TheAce: Everyone from Makarov to Brandish to Jacob claims that August is the most powerful member of the Spriggan 12. If that's true, ''that is saying something,'' considering [[PersonOfMassDestruction what]] [[SuperpowerLottery we've]] [[OneManArmy already]] [[HeroKiller seen]] from other members of the [[BadassCrew Spriggan 12]].
* TheArchmage: Makarov claims that this man is TheAce of the Spriggan 12, and knows even more types of magic than ''Zeref himself''. [[spoiler:But considering he ''works'' for Zeref, his knowledge in variety of magic may not translate to ''skill'' with said magic.]]
** Some cryptic hints [[spoiler:suggest he might be older than almost everyone, if not everyone, including Zeref.]]
* {{Badass}}: [[spoiler: He alongside God Serena and Jacob were capable of destroying all of Bosco's magic guilds all by themselves.]]
* BadassBeard: What you get when you cross a WizardBeard with a goatie.
* BadassGrandpa: Even if we have yet to see him in action, he already oozes this trope.
* BadassLongRobe: Complete with a BadassCape.
* BarrierWarrior: [[spoiler: He used one to protect Ajeel from Laxus' attack. ]]
* TheDreaded: Makarov has seen what this guy can do, and he regards him with a mixture of awe and terror. Even Brandish, known for being rather condescending towards her comrades and openly complaining to Spriggan's face about having to do her job, is intimidated by his power.
* KnowWhenToFoldThem: After [[spoiler: Acnolgia]] kills [[spoiler: Serena]] he stops Jacob from attempting to fight him, [[spoiler:reminding only when they have Fairy Heart will they stand a chance]].
* MagicStaff: A more classical example of one given the series, with a gnarled, wooden haft and a jewel at the top. He uses it as a walking staff.
* MasterOfAll: According to Warrod, August wields any spell with ease and is considered the supreme king of all magic, both past and present.
* MeaningfulName: In-universe example. The month of August is regarded as the month of gathering calamities and fear by the citizens of the Empire, and they fast and pray to overcome them. [[TheDreaded Him bearing such a name means only bad news]].

* [[ActuallyADoombot Actually A Wallbot]]: [[spoiler: The Wall that participated in the war council meeting and that lead the first assault on Fairy Tail (and was defeated) was actually a proxy robot, with the 'real' one being with [=DiMaria=] on a ship leading the Southern invasion all along]].
* AchillesHeel: His magic revolves around identifying and exploiting these in his enemies.
** Subverted in his case, [[spoiler: when he's revealed to be a robot and attacked with lightning it only ends up making him stronger.]]
* AntiMagic: He blew a hole in Freed's Jutsu Shiki barrier like it was nothing. Warren believed it was a form of nullification magic. [[spoiler: It works on Curses, too.]]

* EnemyScan: His magic allows him to do this to detect weaknesses.
** FlawExploitation: What he does with them.
* FatBastard: He's fairly overweight, and downright ''creepy.'' [[spoiler: Subverted with Wall's real form who is much more muscular and attractive (although no less creepy albeit for [[AxeCrazy different reasons]]).]]
* FeedItWithFire: Turns out trying to fry him with lightening [[spoiler: only ends up giving him a stronger, more robotic form.]]
* {{Gonk}}: His eyes are ridiculously close together, his arms and legs are disproportionate to the rest of his body, he has CreepyShadowedUndereyes, and his IdiotHair looks like a single HairAntennae. [[spoiler:[[JustifiedTrope Justified]] because he isn't human, nor this is his real form.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler: While he can scan for weaknesses to attack his opponent and created bots to exploit this, his robots are tailored to only ''one'' specific weakness rather then several and since he's using them on groups of opponents, it leads the heroes to using [[SwitchOutMove Switch Out Moves]] to easily beat the bots that had their weaknesses.]]
* KillerRobot: His magic creates these. [[spoiler:He, himself is an example of one, too.]]
* {{Magitek}}: His specialty. [[spoiler:He can create [[ActuallyADoombot body doubles]], pull a WaveMotionGun and an entire barrage of missiles out of {{hammerspace}}, and then there's his MookMaker powers.]]
* MechanicalLifeforms: [[spoiler:He is a 'Machina,' which is a sentient, self-aware, autonomous species of robots capable of using magic.]]
* MookMaker: His magic in a nutshell.
* NoSell: [[spoiler:[[ActuallyADoombot His fake body]]]] is immune to Ichiya's perfumes due to not being able to detect smells.
* OneWingedAngel: Once he absorbs electricity, he converts it to electrical energy and transforms further.
* PunnyName: The Japanese spelling of his name (''Waaru Iihito'') is a pun on the phrase "''warui hito''", which means "bad guy".
* RoboticReveal: [[spoiler: When he confronts the Thunder God Tribe at Kardia Cathedral. He is a member of the Machina race, machines that can use magic.]] And then {{subverted}} when it's revealed [[spoiler:the real Wall is hundreds of kilometers away and he's just acting through a particularly powerful EliteMook (though the real Wall is stated to be mechanical as well)]].
* RedBaron: The Judge.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Worn over a jacket depicting, of all things, angel wings on the lapels.
* {{Ubermensch}}: He claims that he can see everything good and bad with humanity, as well as all of humanity's weaknesses. [[spoiler:It's why he fully agrees with, and supports Zeref's OmnicidalManiac plans.]]
* VerbalTic: Ends most of his sentences with "nareba", the conditional form of "to be" in Japanese.

!![[spoiler: Original/Real Wall]]
* AdaptiveAbility: [[spoiler: Being a machine with magic that can scan his enemies' weaknesses, Wall can adapt himself to the fight if required, seen when he transformed into [[OneWingedAngel Assault Mode]] when he realized that Laxus could be a threat. He can also summon {{Mooks}} that can counter their enemies' attacks.]]
* AxCrazy: [[spoiler: Wall's real form turns out to be much less composed then his [[ActuallyADoombot Wallbot]] was (think Jackal and you've got an idea). On his and [=DiMaria=]'s fleet he [[LaughingMad laughed his ass off]] about what happened to Ajeel and Brandish and then attempted to blow up the guild with a WaveMotionGun while his fleet was 400 kilometres away. Turns out this is his "frivolous" personality, and he's actually able to physically override it when he deems it necessary.]]
* {{Badass}}: He fights Laxus, one of the best wizards of Fairy Tail, on equal grounds. And that is before reaching his OneWingedAngel form...
* {{BFG}}: His WaveMotionGun could easily be compared to a portable version of ''Jupiter''.
* EliteMooks: Is capable of creating these, equipped specifically to exploit their enemies' weaknesses. [[spoiler: Turns out the form he used to attack the Rajin Tribe was also another one of these as the real Wall was on-board a fleet far away from the action.]]
* FangsAreEvil: [[spoiler:The real Wall]] has a mouth like Jackal.
* TheHyena: He laughs at almost everything.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: He is killed practically in the same way as his comrade God Serena a few chapters ago, by Laxus.]]
* LaughingMad: Ahyahyahyahya! [=DiMaria=] thinks it's disgusting.
* LetsGetDangerous: An oddly [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] example, in that he can apparently 'overwrite' his personality to suit his needs.
* LogicalWeakness: [[spoiler: While his magic is quite versatile it has some weaknesses. First, while he [[MookMaker can create soldiers]], each soldier is designed to counter only one weakness, making them easy to defeat if the foes simply decide to switch. Second, his EnemyScan can only focus on only one weakness at a time, so if a foe has more than one weakness it makes him harder to defeat. Third, while he might adapt himself, if he realizes that even after that he is still at disadvantage and if the foe uses his own magic against him, [[LogicBomb it will drive his robotic circuits nuts]]. And finnaly, he can´t adapt himself if he doesn´t have time to scan the enemy, seen why he was defeated once Laxus used a new kind of thunder magic.]]
* MacrossMissileMassacre: Because a {{BFG}} WaveMotionGun just isn't enough, he's also shown to be able to pull a buttload of guided magic missiles out of HammerSpace and lock on to multiple targets in a fire-and-forget way.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: [[spoiler: Laxus conjures a Jutsu Shiki which imprisons Wall. Wall, much like his robot, can nullify it, which he did. Laxus was actually counting on this as his nullification also neutralized the magical barrier particles inside him. It is understandable why Wall got into a VillainousBreakdown afterwards.]]
* NighInvulnerable: Most of Laxus' attacks don't leave a scratch. And much like his Wallbot, he can NoSell lightning. That however doesn't include [[spoiler: red lightning.]]
* NoNonsenseNemesis: [[spoiler:His "heartless" personality that he activates with Assault Mode.]]
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler: After analyzing Laxus, he understands that he might be defeated in his current frivolous personality, so he switches to assault mode.]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Is capable of conjuring a [[WaveMotionGun large cannon]] that is able to fire at long distances and wipe out entire cities.
* SensingYouAreOutmatched: [[spoiler: After seeing that Fairy Tail managed to defeat his robot, Ajeel, and Brandish, he saw that they shouldn't be underestimated. During his fight with Laxus,he recognizes that he is one of the most powerful wizards in his guild, even if sick, and realizes that he might be defeated in his current form, so he takes OneWingedAngel. Doesn't completely work, he manages to juggle Laxus with a barrage of weaponry but Laxus recovers and still manages to knock him around like a rag doll. He tries to capitalize when Laxus's pain subdue him and makes him a sitting duck, but the killing blow is blocked by a thunder shield. When Wall gets rid of that, he finds out too late it was a ploy by Laxus to cure him via neutralizing magic. After which Wall's chances for victory quickly plummet.]]
* SlasherSmile: Even more terrifying than Ajeel's.
* SuperpowerLottery: His magic certainly is quite versatile and powerful. [[spoiler:One of his creations was capable of entering Freed's barrier, creating robots that exploited his opponents' weaknesses and gave a tough fight to the Thunder God Tribe.]] He can summon a cannon that, if not for Christina, could have destroyed Fairy Tail's headquarters 400 km away.
* ThisCannotBe: [[spoiler: He estimates he can take out Laxus in 90 seconds after analyzing him. But even after going into his "Heartless" mode and Laxus suffering from the poison, Laxus still has him on the ropes to the point the limit is exceeded. After Laxus tricks him into curing him of the poison particles, his systems start going haywire with error messages when he begins to panic and realize that nothing in his arsenal will be able to take Laxus out in his current state. Even moreso when Laxus's Red Lightning breaks through his armor.]]
* WalkingArmory: Dude's prettying much a tank on legs. Along with the aforementioned wave gun, once he goes to super mode he bombards Laxus with a whole array of weapons starting with missiles, a laser and finally a railgun. However that last one winds up re-powering Laxus since he was pretty much shooting lighting at him. Whoops.
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler: Starts to panic when he realizes the poison particles that were hindering Laxus have been cured thanks to Wall's nullifying magic and now Laxus is at full power. Granted Wall still thinks he can win since he can absorb lightning...least until Laxus changes the properties of his lighting to red to which Wall ''can't'' absorb eliciting a brief OhCrap before Laxus finishes him.]]
* VillainousFriendship: Wall seems to get along pretty well with [=DiMaria=],as the two share a laugh about [[spoiler: Ajeel being beaten and Brandish being getting captured]] and then proceeding to bet on whether or not Wall's WaveMotionGun can succeed in hitting Fairy Tail's guild.
* WaveMotionGun: [[spoiler:The real Wall]] can accurately fire one at a target ''400 kilometers away''.
** WaveMotionTuningFork: His railgun spell is this.

A member of the Spriggan 12, first mentioned during the Spriggan 12 war council meeting. Alongside Irene and Larcade, he lead the invasion of the snowy regions of Northern Fiore. He is introduced when he intercepts Sabertooth's line of defense, effortlessly killing some of their troops and forcing an immediate retreat. Not much is known about him at the moment.
----

* {{Badass}}: [[spoiler: He forces the Sabertooth and Blue Pegasus guilds to retreat. In the second day of battle he, most likely with Irene and Larcade, annihilates the two guilds, giving Alvarez the first undisputable victory in the war.]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: An UnflinchingWalk as Sabertooth RedShirts take off running, one of them coughing up blood on Yukino as he tells her to run for her life.
* InTheHood: Complete with a [[MalevolentMaskedMan mask]] and a BadassCape.
* KnightOfCerebus: When he shows up, Sabertooth ''starts running'', with one of their RedShirts being brutally killed right in front of Yukino. [[spoiler: Then we see that he and his army brutalized two of the strongest guilds in Fiore.]]
* ObviouslyEvil: With everything from his [[MalevolentMaskedMan choice of]] [[InTheHood outfit]] to his title, he couldn't look more evil if he tried.

A member of the Spriggan 12 who is first mentioned during the Spriggan 12 war council meeting, but does not appear in full until significantly later. He accompanied [=DiMaria=] and Wall to lead the Southern front during the invasion of Fiore at Port Hargeon, but [[OrcusOnHisThrone sat most of the battle out]] in his ship at the harbor until he is confronted by the allied Ishgar forces.
----

* AgentPeacock: He is a LongHairedPrettyBoy, a WarriorPoet and one of the [[BadassCrew Spriggan 12]].
* {{Badass}}: [[spoiler: He nearly killed Kagura and Jellal and gave Erza a practical CurbStompBattle, even if through indirect methods. While Erza managed to dispel the corpses, she fainted afterwards before she could continue the battle. A very rare feat among Fairy Tail's opponents.]]
* BadassFingersnap: How he summons [[spoiler:[[Characters/FairyTailDarkGuilds Ikaruga]]]].
* {{Bishonen}}: Somewhat surprising, given his imposing silhouette.
* BrilliantButLazy: [[spoiler: He decides to stay in the ships and only decides to take action after the enemy came for him, summoning old foes across the battlefield. If he had done this hours before, the battle could have been decided much sooner and without two of his colleagues losing.]]
* CreatingLife: How he describes his magic. Unlike [[MasterOfIllusion Mavis]]' magic, his creations are corporeal, fully-sentient, near-exact recreations of whoever it is his magic is creating, right down to their magic and even their ''personalities.'' The only on the series with such similar magic was Roubaul from Cait Shelter.
* EnemyScan: [[spoiler: Much like his colleague Wall he can scan his enemy, but while Wall uses it to see their weaknesses, Neinheart scans their memories and uses them to summon foes they faced in the past.]]
* EnemySummoner: [[spoiler: He is capable of summoning previous enemies that the heroes faced. Till now he has summoned [[Characters/FairyTailDarkGuilds Ikaruga]], [[Characters/FairyTailGrimoireHeart Azuma, Zancrow, Master Hades]], [[Characters/FairyTailTartaros Kyoka, Keyes and Ezel]]. He can also summon Simon and Ul, though in their case they seem to be more malicious and hostile than the originals, most likely to serve as psychological warfare.]]
* EverythingSoundsSexierInFrench: Uses the word 'Historia' (Spanish for '[[CaptainObvious history]]') in casual conversation.
* EvilIsHammy: He describes his power using flamboyant gestures and flowery language, and [[ChewingTheScenery devours the entire ship he's on]] while doing it.
* IKnowWhatYouFear: His magic is a variation of this. [[spoiler:He [[{{Telepathy}} scanned Jellal, Erza, and Kagura's]] minds ('hearts,' according to Neinhart himself), saw their history of the Tower of Heaven... and then conjured an apparition of [[FightingYourFriend Simon]] to attack them, while taunting them about their history. He later did the exact same thing to Gray, Wendy, Juvia, and Laxus.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: For two days he stays on the ships, while [[spoiler: two of his comrades, alongside the army, fight two guilds and only decides to take action after the enemy comes for him, while Dimaria is heavily injured, Wall is most likely dead and great part of the army has been already defeated. He could have used his Historia at any time and it could have certainly turned the tide of battle. Even worse, he insults Dimaria and Wall for being defeated. Not to mention that his magic is a very nasty one, since it can force his foes to fight against their loved ones.]]
* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler: He mocks Dimaria and Wall after they were defeated. Minutes later, after his summons were defeated, Jellal had only to fire one spell, which by the way wasn´t his strongest, to crush him. In comparison, Dimaria and Wall were far stronger foes and the heroes were very close of being '''actually''' killed.]]
* {{Necromancer}}: [[spoiler: His magic is Historia, or Historia of Corpses. Though instead of reanimation, it involves bringing back the ghosts and memories of the people. Keyes makes a point that the necromancy is different from his own.]]
* OhCrap:
** [[spoiler: When Erza's sheer determination made Kyoka, Azuma and Ikaruga's corpses cower in fear and vanish out of the battlefield, he was visibly sweatdropping due to shock. This, along when he realizes that the woman he had been observing all this time was Erza, whom he is mysteriously familiar with.]]
** [[spoiler: Gets it again in the climax of his fight. He tries to halt Jellal's attack by sending Simon at him, knowing Jellal's guilt over his death would cause him to hesitate. Kagura however takes out the Histora!Simon herself giving Jellal the all clear to take Neinhart out.]]
* OnlySixFaces: Looks like a {{Bishonen}} variant of [[IntrepidReporter Jason]]. Subbers did not miss this and made him shout Cool.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: He was conspicuously absent from the War Council, with Invel openly criticizing him for not bothering to come to it despite him being in Vistarion at the time. [=DiMaria=] later complains about him not bothering to come off the ship and help fight while they laid siege to Port Hargeon. [[spoiler: At the second day of battle, he was still on the ships.]] Whether he's BrilliantButLazy or if there's some other reason for this isn't quite clear yet. [[spoiler:It's later implied that this was to avoid FriendlyFire, possibly indicating his magic [[PowerIncontinence doesn't discriminate]] or is very hard to 'aim.']]
* PowersDoTheFighting: [[spoiler: He stands sit and observes while his creations made by Historia of Corpses fight. This might explain why he didn´t even bother leaving the ships. Once his creations are taken care of, he is practically defenseless.]]
* PunnyName: His name sounds like "No Heart" ("Nein" is German for "No" and the "Hart" part speaks for itself). Considering how he like to play with his opponents emotions by sometimes using Historia clones of former loved ones, it fits.
* PureIsNotGood: He has a [[{{Bishonen}} beautiful]], almost angelic appearance, and he's anything ''but'' good.
* SomethingAboutARose:His armor has images of roses painted on it.
* SquishyWizard: [[spoiler: His magic is powerful but it's the only thing standing between his enemies and him since it relies solely on his opponents emotions weakening their resolve to fight. So once Jellal and Kagura overcame his power, he was quickly pulverized. Likely if Erza wasn't weakened from fighting so many Historia clones, she would've landed the final blow herself.]]
* SuperpowerLottery: [[spoiler: He can summon people from his enemy's past. Aside from the psychological warfare potential, he can also summon enemies that the heroes have only barely won against, such as the likes of Azuma, Kyouka and ''Master Hades''.]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: [=DiMaria=] complains about being teamed up with him during the invasion because of this. Neinhart doesn't even bother getting off the ship when they make port. Later, [[spoiler: Neinheart calls both Dimaria and Wall pathetic for being beaten by such weaklings.]]
* ThisCannotBe: [[spoiler: When Erza disperses his Historia, he's utterly shocked.]]
* VillainForgotToLevelGrind: A variation with his Magic. [[spoiler:Historia of Corpses seems to bring creations as strong as their original selves forth to battle others, which would be fine and dandy...except for the fact that, unfortunately, their opponents are [[TimeToUnlockMoreTruePotential far stronger than they were when they originally fought]]. The only reason most of them were able to do as much damage as they did was because they were among some of the strongest enemies Fairy Tail and company had faced, were exploiting a psychological edge, and/or most of them [[WorfHadTheFlu were fighting weakened opponents]]. Once Fairy Tail and the others teamed up or got their resolve together, the battles were over almost instantly]].

[[folder: Jacob Lessio]]
!!Jacob Lessio
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jacob.jpg]]
A member of the Spriggan 12 and the Alvarez Empire's top assassin. Alongside God Serena and August, he leads the attack on Eastern Fiore, and he is introduced during a confrontation between the trio and the remaining Gods of Ishgar and Jura. He later becomes the first Spriggan member to infiltrate Fairy Tail's guild hall.
----

* ATwinkleInTheSky: Sort of. [[spoiler: After Lucy manages to cancel Jacob's power and bring back the members of Fairy Tail. Marakov punches him out of the building and into the air. Then follows it up by throwing Natsu after him who lands the finishing blow.]]
* AvengingTheVillain: He was prepared to attack [[spoiler:[[PhysicalGod Acnologia]]]] for killing [[spoiler:God Serena]], only to be stopped by August reminding him he's on a whole other level. Particularly notable in that [[spoiler:most of the other 12 [[TheFriendNobodyLikes were dismissive of Serena at best and mocked him at worst]]]].
* {{Badass}}: [[spoiler: He, August and God Serena were capable of destroying all the magic guilds of an entire country. He shows up later on the Fairy Tail guild and making short work out of ALL of them with his magic. He can also fight Natsu on equal grounds and proved to be more efficient in hand-to-hand combat than him, overwhelming him and Lucy. Were it not for [[PleasePutSomeClothesOn two]] [[VillainousFriendship incoveniences]], he could've easily defeated them with marginal effort.]] He is also an assassin who prefers to attack head-on in contrast to the usual tactic of assassins to conceal themselves.
* BadassInANiceSuit: To help pull off the assassin look.
* BaldOfEvil: Bonus points for having a skull tattoo on his forehead.
* CatSmile: He often has one on his face.
* ClothingDamage: [[spoiler:As Natsu closes in to finish him off, the heat of his Fire Dragon King Mode melts his suit, and he's reduced to his boxers once he's defeated.]]
* FaceFramedInShadow: Quite frequently, even when he's in a well-lit area, seemingly to illustrate his "assassins hide in the shadows" spiel.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Besides the OneLastSmoke moment below, he says that, because it's "Respect for the Aged Day" in Alvarez, he took the initiative to [[spoiler:attack the Fairy Tail guild]] solo so that August would not have to work as hard.
* {{Foil}}: He is one to his colleague Brandish. Brandish is an AffablyEvil ReluctantWarrior that tries to settle things without violence, while Jacob is a ProfessionalKiller that will have no problem in killing anyone that stands in his way, even those that can´t defend themselves. She is a SquishyWizard and he, on the contrary, is a KungFuWizard. Brandish is apparently [[ShamelessFanserviceGirl a woman that walks around only in a swimsuit and will have no problem taking a bath in an enemy's house without the slightest shame]], while Jacob believes that [[PleasePutSomeClothesOn seeing women naked is embarrasing to the point of closing his eyes]]. Brandish holds little or any care for her allies and [[BadBoss subordinates]], whereas Jacob has a [[VillainousFriendship true sense of comradeship]], as he will not hesitate in either [[AvengingTheVillain avenging fallen comrades]] or saving imprisioned ones.
* {{Gonk}}: Not exactly the most attractive of individuals in the Spriggan 12 (apart from Wall). [[spoiler: Plus there's the face he makes when [[PleasePutSomeClothesOn he was trying to avoid looking at a naked Lucy]]]].
* {{Invisibility}}: His primary power, only he can not only render himself invisible to the naked eye, he can also hide his scent, any sound he makes, and all of his equipment, including his clothes and weapons (which he apparently stores in {{hammerspace}}). [[spoiler:He can also [[YouCanSeeMe see that which is otherwise invisible]] with this same power, including Mavis.]]
* {{Irony}}:
** He states that he doesn't need to hide in comparison to traditional assassins who conceal themselves in the dark. [[{{Invisibility}} Guess what his magic is.]]
** He doesn't like seeing naked people. [[spoiler: After Natsu hit him with a major fire attack, it burns off all his clothes save his boxers.]]
* KungFuWizard: A skilled to hand-to-hand combatant.
* MadeOfIron: Extremely resilient in hand to hand combat. Natsu and Lucy manage to land a kick to his face and Natsu gets some blows in but it barely phases him.
* MaximumFunChamber: Implies that this is where he sent [[spoiler:all of Fairy Tail, sans Natsu, Lucy, Happy, and Mavis]] with his teleportation spell.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: [[spoiler: He releases Marin and Brandish from his magic when informed they had been caught up in it, but this allows Lucy to beat him by using Marin's magic against him via Gemini.]]
* OhCrap: [[spoiler: Gets this when Lucy manages to cancel out his power and bring back the entire Fairy Tail guild. When he tries to vanish them again, Happy appears in between his hands stopping his attack. Which gives Makarov time to punch him out of the guild building with an enlarged fist.]]
* OneManArmy: He states that he doesn't have an army nor subordinates to back him up. [[JustifiedTrope Justified as he is an assassin]]. Not that he needs them anyway, as he [[spoiler:teleported everyone in Fairy Tail to a place where they slowly die]].
* OneLastSmoke: [[spoiler:[[InvertedTrope Inverted.]] When he arrives at Fairy Tail, he sits down and orders "the stiffest drink" they've got. When they refuse, he says he was going to share one last drink with them before they all die. Doubles as a BadassBoast.]]
* PerpetualSmiler: Always has a CatSmile, [[spoiler: except when Acnologia shows up to kill God Serena.]]
* PleasePutSomeClothesOn: [[spoiler:[[ZigZaggedTrope Zig-zagged]]. Jacob seems to think seeing a naked woman is so embarrassing that he was projecting this onto Natsu by making Lucy's clothes disappear and making him look at her. Not only was Natsu not exactly opposed to seeing Lucy naked, [[ButForMeItWasTuesday he's seen her naked so many times now that it doesn't really effect him anymore.]] Jacob, however, couldn't bring himself to look at Lucy's naked body, which gave them both an opening to kick him in the face.]]
* PowerPerversionPotential: [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]]. He can render peoples' clothing invisible, but unlike [=DiMaria=], he gets ''extremely'' uncomfortable seeing naked women, so much so that he's shocked to find out this doesn't apply to everyone else.
* SpaceMaster: [[spoiler: He appears to have Marin's magic turned UpToEleven. He teleported ''every single Fairy Tail'' member out of the building, and said that if they stay where they are for much longer, they were all going to die. The only ones who were safe from this were Mavis (because her physical body wasn't within the attack radius), and Natsu, Lucy, and Happy (thanks to Horologium).]]
* TrickedOutGloves: His magic implements them as he puts them on before fighting.
* {{Troll}}: The very first thing he does is to sarcastically compliment Jura on his hair (Jura is bald) for no other reason than to agitate him.
* VillainousFriendship:
** As seen with his fellow Spriggan 12. [[spoiler: [[AvengingTheVillain He was enraged at the sight of God Serena being killed off by Acnologia and was ready to attack him]]]]. Also, he actually respects his fellow comrade and elder August, [[spoiler: invading Fairy Tail way ahead of him so that the old man wouldn't have to deal with them.]]
** [[spoiler: He also immediately releases Brandish and Marin when informed they had been caught in his attack. Though this backfires because Lucy is able to use Gemini's powers to copy Marin's and release everyone else.]]
* YouCanSeeMe: [[spoiler:Not only can he see Mavis, but he can also harm her. Naturally, when she realizes this, it's one of her biggest OhCrap moments in the entire series up until this point]].

* SpaceMaster: He's so strong that he can shut down Erza's requip and Lucy's summons simply by controlling the space around him and denying others access to it.
* SycophanticServant: It is to wonder why he is so loyal to Brandish despite her constant mistreatment of him. [[spoiler:This is ultimately subverted.]]
* TeleportSpam: Natsu and Gray can't even get a hit on him because of this.
* WakeUpCallBoss: Him {{NoSell}}ing Lucy and Erza and proceeding to kick Natsu and Gray's asses just goes to show that their post-second TimeSkip free ride is unambiguously over, and that Albereth is the real deal.

* OnlySaneEmployee: She thinks she's this, to Irene. Given [[CloudCuckoolander Juliet]], it's not an unreasonable opinion of hers to have.
* OpenMouthInsertFoot: Mentioning that [[spoiler:Irene is from Ishgar]] is apparently a very sensitive subject, and she quickly backpedals once she realizes that. [[spoiler:Irene herself doesn't seem to mind, though.]]
* {{Stripperiffic}}: She dresses in a skin-tight SpyCatsuit, with fishnets that show the skin of her sides extending from her breasts down to her thighs.

[[folder:Yajeel]]
!!High Minister Yajeel

An old man that accompanied Makarov to Alvarez's capital, Vistarion.
[[quoteright:180:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yajeel_prop.png]]

----

* AntiVillain: He may be on the opposing side; but he went completely out of his way to make sure Makarov was treated as an honored guest of the Empire, even teaching him how to play a popular card game played in Alvarez.
* CoolOldGuy: For a member of TheEmpire, he's very friendly.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: [[spoiler: He was sad to hear of Ajeel's possible death since he is Yajeel's grandson]].
* {{Foreshadowing}}: He says that be object of the card game he played with Makarov is to "take the Goddess and keep her close." [[spoiler:The "Goddess" depicted on the card looks suspiciously like an older Mavis Vermillion]].
* MrExposition: He's the one who told Makarov about Emperor Spriggan and the Spriggan 12.
* NiceHat: It's too small for his head, but it's still pretty damn amazing.
* UndyingLoyalty: The way he gushes about the Emperor would make one wonder if he even knows (or cares) that he's [[spoiler:the Black Wizard. And judging how he knows about his curse, he most likely does]].

* CatchPhrase: "It's a pain."
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:

----
* BadassLongcoat: Which he wears closed, with a belt over a [[BadassInANiceSuit suit and tie]]. It even has a DualityMotif.
* BalconySpeech: Doubles as a RousingSpeech, given to the MillionMookMarch on the western front.

* {{Bishonen}}: He doesn't appear that old for a general, and he's a LongHairedPrettyBoy who keeps his hair in a ponytail.
* CoolShades: Fitting for a general of an empire.

* {{Megane}}: A classic {{bishonen}} example.
* RedBaron: Winter General.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Invel/Imber

* MeaningfulName: Her RedBaron title, "Valkyrie." In Norse Mythology, Valkyries were servants of Odin, who would choose the souls of valiant soldiers who died in battle, and bring her chosen to Valhalla to prepare them for Ragnarok. * OhCrap: [[spoiler: When Sherria's Third Origin actually manages to knock her out of the Take Over state for a bit, she realizes "God Slayer" isn't just a fancy title.

Combine the ability to wield a {{BFS}} one-handed so precisely that she can cut off somebody's clothes without harming them [[spoiler:with the ability to ''freeze time'' in an instant]] and it's no wonder why she's got a reputation as a OneWomanArmy.

* BadassBoast:
* CatchPhrase: "Nice".
* RedBaron: Desert King.

* LaughingMad: Ahyahyahyahya! [=DiMaria=] thinks it's disgusting.

* OhCrap:

* {{Irony}}:
* KungFuWizard: A skilled to hand-to-hand combatant.
* VillainousFriendship:
