The leader of the [[SuperheroesInSpace Superhero team]] the Pride Troopers, Toppo and his team are the fighters on the Tournament of Power from the eleventh universe. Toppo serves both as the bodyguard of the Supreme Kai of Universe 11, but also as a candidate for the next God of Destruction.

* AboveGoodAndEvil: [[spoiler: Almost proudly proclaims himself to have transcended justice when he muses on his ascent to God of Destruction.]]
* TheAce: It's easy to forget due to being [[OvershadowedByAwesome the second strongest Universe 11 mortal behind Jiren]], but Toppo is absolutely no slouch himself. Toppo was introduced as being roughly on-par with Goku and Vegeta in strength, capable of overwhelming both Gohan and Android 17 when he was fighting at a 2-on-1 disadvantage and is a God of Destruction candidate. And then [[WhamEpisode in episode 125]] Toppo ''becomes'' a God of Destruction, where he '''wrecks''' Golden Frieza and 17.
* AccidentalHero: When Frieza is close to taking Jiren out, Toppo takes it upon himself and motivates Jiren to keep on going and gives him one final bout [[spoiler:which leads to a final battle among Universe 7's remaining three warriors and Jiren. This series of events leads to Jiren, Frieza, and Goku getting taken out, which leads to Android 17 being the last one standing, who uses his wish to revive the fallen universes. If Toppo didn't motivate Jiren from the stands, Frieza would have won, which would have led him to wishing himself to overthrow the gods, which would have had the multiverse eliminated]].
* {{Acrofatic}}: Despite being top-heavy and having a noticeable gut, he moves with surprising speed, enough to keep up with Super Saiyan Blue Goku. He loses the gut when he ascends to a God of Destruction.
* AllCrimesAreEqual: Openly admits that he punishes all evil "Big, small, or average" and proudly announces "Death to all evil!" during his fight with Goku.
* AdaptationalBadass: In the anime, Toppo breaks even with Super Saiyan Blue Goku, but in the manga kicks him in the gut hard enough to stun Goku and toss him out of the ring with ease, in his Mastered Super Saiyan Blue state of all things. Likewise, the manga gives him godly energy, which he's never suggested to have in the anime until he becomes an actual God of Destruction.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: In the anime, despite being a superhero, Toppo seems to suffer from a case of BlackAndWhiteInsanity given the fact that he immediately declares Goku to be evil for setting up the Tournament of Power despite the fact that he actually gave the universe a chance to live and Zen-Oh was going to destroy the universes anyway prior to Goku's intervention. Also judging from the dialogue before his battle with Goku and how he dealt with the monster when saving Dyspo, he seemed to be fully willing to murder any sort of criminals whether it be minor or major giving him strong implications of being a KnightTemplar. In the manga, Toppo seem to be friendlier with Goku and never blames the latter for it even when learning that his universe would be wiped out for losing the tournament. He also adheres to the ThouShallNotKill policy where he refrains from killing the invading monster to the point that he stopped Dyspo from intervening as he is afraid he would kill it.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: A minor one. In the anime, Toppo sees Goku as responsible for the Tournament of Power and calls him evil because of this, even though he knows Zen'o was going to destroy the eight lowest ranked universes prior to Goku giving the idea for a tournament. In the manga, however, Toppo doesn't treat Goku as being responsible for it, instead understanding that Goku gave one of the universes a fighting chance, and comes across [[AdaptationalNiceGuy slightly nicer person]] in the manga compared to the anime (the worst he does is call Goku a strange person for his desire of the tournament). [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And he doesn't preach the word "justice" or perform ridiculous overdramatic poses before the conflict]].
* AllForNothing: He first gets his teammates eliminated and then tosses away his principles to become a God Of Destruction, with implications that the decision is irreversible. The result? Vegeta defeats Toppo and does so without throwing away his ideals or his life, with Toppo losing Jiren's respect in the process. In short, he did what Vegeta did during the Buu saga before his character development and it ended up failing as well.
* AmazingTechnicolorBattlefield: Thought the Grand Priest changing the sky from dark to green was something? Well, Toppo [[spoiler:as a God of Destruction changed the green sky to a dark blue/purple sky by unleashing a Sphere of Destruction and destroyed a good portion of the arena as well. And Zen'o was perfectly fine with it too]].
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Played with. He's ''much'' stronger than most of the Pride Troopers and considered a potential God of Destruction, but his subordinate Jiren is explicitly stronger than him.
* AuthorityInNameOnly: While it's explicitly stated that Toppo is the leader of the Pride Troopers, it's made fairly evident that Jiren's the one calling the shots. Maji-Kayo even calls Jiren the leader, if not out of a misunderstanding, and Vegeta calls Toppo "second fiddle".
* BadassCrew: Leads the ''Pride Troopers'', a group of superheroes in his universe. He himself is so strong he's being scouted as a potential God of Destruction.
* BadassInANiceSuit: Is seen relaxing in a very prim and proper suit in his downtime.
* BadassMoustache: The owner of a really impressive white moustache. As for the badass part, he's being trained as a replacement God of Destruction for Belmod.
* BattleAura: In his God of Destruction form, he surrounds himself with destruction energy which renders him invulnerable to ki attacks.
* BearHug: His finishing move, ''Justice Rear Naked Choke'', is to squeeze his opponent until their bones break.
* BeingPersonalIsntProfessional: When Goku comes up to him just before the tournament hoping for a rematch, Toppo insists that the Pride Troopers came to defend their universe and their previous brawl doesn't factor into it. When Goku points out they'll be fighting anyway, he just says they'll deal with that when the time comes.
* BerserkButton: Damaging his uniform really pisses him off, as it's a symbol of justice. This makes episode 125 all the more surpirsing (and symbolic) when [[spoiler: his uniform is ruined by Golden Frieza and Toppo no longer really cares... having chosen survival over justice and begins unleashing his power as a candidate for the God of Destruction.]]
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Does Ginyu Force-esque poses, emphasizes all of his words, and is rather hammy about preaching justice but is the second strongest mortal in his universe, able to fight Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken Goku and held his own until the Grand Priest cut the fight off. Even Gohan and Android 17, two of the strongest characters from Universe 7, can't fight him head on. The only one stronger than him is his sworn friend, Jiren the Gray.
* BlackAndWhiteInsanity: His overall perception of Justice and what is evil is very skewed when you see his interactions with Goku. Even though Zen'o had already planned on destroying many of the Universes, which the Grand Priest had already told them, he calls Goku evil on the grounds that Goku ''has'' to be evil since he sparked the tournament idea. If anything, he should see Goku as good since he ensured that one of the lower level universes will be spared, and he ensured that every universe has a fair chance to try and make it so that that universe is theirs.
** Somewhat averted in the manga where he is understanding of Goku giving them this chance (only thinking him as strange for his desire for fighting).
* BlackAndWhiteMorality: He seems to have no concept of gray morality. In his eyes, you're either good or evil. As the Tournament of Power goes on, and once his team is reduced to three fighters, he abandons this viewpoint. He states there is no justice or evil, only survival or being erased from existence. [[spoiler: This attitude ends up getting him stomped and blown off the stage by an enraged Vegeta.]]
* BlackCloak: He is hidden in a dark hood in his first appearance.
* CallingYourAttacks: He calls his attacks by adding "justice" into their names.

* CatchPhrase: Says "justice" more than Zamasu, both in [[GratuitousEnglish English]] and it's original Japanese. He even names all of his techniques with the word "justice". Even Zen'O starts repeating the words due to his excitement during the fight between Toppo and Goku. Hell, even after Toppo told his team to shut up about justice and to change their attitude, he's still yelling "Justice" out every second, as seen when he's having the upper hand against Cabba. [[spoiler: Once he becomes a God of Destruction however, he abandons shouting justice, proclaiming he is [[AboveGoodAndEvil above justice and evil]].]]
* CombatPragmatist: He uses joint locks to dislocate limbs and make it harder for his opponents to fight. He only fights Goku head on when it becomes clear he can't beat Goku that way. When Android 17 attempts to trap him in an energy barrier [[TakingYouWithMe so Gohan can blast them both out]], Toppo punches 17 hard enough to remove the barrier, and then uses him as a shield to force Gohan to stop the attack. In the manga version of his fight with Goku, he rings him out of the arena by kicking him below the belt, which in this iteration earns him victory since ring-outs count as a loss.
* CurbStompBattle: Delivers an absolutely brutal one towards [[spoiler:Frieza after he throws away his sense of justice and chooses to prioritize his Universe's survival over his own moral beliefs by tapping into the power of a God of Destruction. The tables are turned when Vegeta faces him. Despite having the initial advantage, Vegeta fights back and kicks his ass, resulting in a humiliating defeat and elimination]].
* CurbStompCushion: Even before his ascent to [[spoiler: a God of Destruction]], Toppo is clearly superior to Android 17. However, clever tactics, his infinite energy and sheer balls allow 17 to stay in the fight.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: He holds himself and Jiren back to conserve their strength, instead sending the weaker members of his team in groups against the stronger opponents he wants to eliminate. He does this against Goku, knowing first hand just how strong he is. The end result is that six of the seven members of his team eliminated can be traced back to his decision before he finally decides to stop holding back.

* EarlyBirdCameo: Appears briefly in the ''Genkai Toppa×Survivor'' opening before his appearance on the show. Is kinda funny since he is hooded on his first appearance, even if we already know how he looks like.
* EdibleThemeNaming: Interestingly, his name is that of an Italian red wine named "Borgo di Toppo", which makes sense considering he is a potential God of Destruction. It's all in the name, folks!
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His first act aside from standing there is to easily extinguish a stray blast of Basil's that Buu deflected and was heading for the Supreme Kai, and proclaims it as being rude to do towards a god, easily demonstrating not only his power but also his heroic traits as one of the Pride Troopers.
* ExhaustedEyeBags: Has eye bags on his design, to enforce how old he is along with his white mustache.
* FingerGun: One of his techniques,'' Justice Flash'', is to rapidly fire ki blasts from his fingers like a machine gun.

** To Vegeta; both are the second strongest warriors from their respective universes and talk a lot about their pride, but whereas Vegeta resents always coming up second to Goku, views him as a rival rather than a friend, and constantly strives to match and surpass him, Toppo doesn't appear to have any hang-ups or insecurities about the fact that Jiren is far and away stronger than he is, and considers him a true friend. Likewise, Vegeta has no interest in becoming a God of Destruction, while Toppo is training to become Belmod's successor.
*** Taking it a step further, Toppo becomes a God of Destruction by discarding his principles and attachments - exactly what Vegeta did when he let Babidi possess him. The current Vegeta has outgrown this and achieves his own new form [[spoiler: and ultimately defeats Toppo]] by concentrating on his commitment to his family and the Universe 6 Saiyans.
** To Brianne de Chateau from his twin Universe. They are both {{Acrofatic}} heroes beloved in their universes inspired by a Japanese superhero genre (Sentai and MagicalGirls). However, Toppo, despite how rude he may seem, has his heart in the right place and is legitimately worried about the erasure of his universe to the point he is willing to abandon his justice persona and relies on his own power, while Ribrianne is quite the hypocrite herself and more of a BoisterousWeakling who needs the love of her universe to fight.
* ForGreatJustice: The guy is ''obsessed'' with justice. He put the word justice in front of all of the names of his moves, and the word is basically a VerbalTic for him. As the Tournament of Power goes on, he stops caring about justice and says survival is the only thing that matters.
* FriendToAllChildren: When it comes to small children, Toppo is the ''picture'' of the warm-hearted, affectionate and kind grandfather.
* GoodIsNotNice: While he is undeniably a hero that is devoted to justice if he perceives someone as evil, then he will never forgive that person and is fully willing eliminate evil by any means necessary, [[AllCrimesAreEqual regardless of the scale of crimes they commit]]. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And he also will not shake hands with an evil person as he does not want the filth of evil to be touching him]].
* GroinAttack: Dish one to Goku in the manga, ringing him out of the arena and winning the fight.
* HandshakeRefusal: He refuses Goku's handshake after their match, as he still considers Goku to be evil.
* HellishPupils: His eyes have slitted pupils and yellow sclerae. Despite this, he is by all indications entirely a good guy.
* HeroAntagonist: Is determined to take Goku and Universe 7 down, but only because he thinks that Goku is evil and it is his duty as a hero to wipe out evil.
* HonorBeforeReason: He berates Android 17 for interrupting the Maiden Squadron's TransformationSequence, as he considers such actions to be cowardly.
* HumanShield: After managing to break out of the barrier, Toppo puts 17 in front of Gohan's Kamehameha while ringing the two out which forces the latter to call off the attack.
* InsultBackfire: Vegeta says that he doesn't want to fight Toppo because he's "second fiddle" (Vegeta is more interested in fighting Jiren). Toppo responds by stating that Vegeta is "second fiddle" as well.
* IronicEcho: Delivers a ''withering'' one to Frieza after curb-stomping him.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He may be a jerk to Goku, treating him like a villain despite knowing that he guaranteed that one of the 8 lowest ranking universes would be spared and allowed for each of them to try to be the one that is spared, and he may be somewhat of a KnightTemplar in regards to his view of justice, but he is still a hero to his universe, and he is good with children and showed a sense of honor by allowing the Maiden Squadron to transform.
* KnightTemplar: He punishes all evil, and, [[BlackAndWhiteMorality in his eyes]], AllCrimesAreEqual, and anyone who makes any sort of misdemeanor are AlwaysChaoticEvil. What makes this over the edge is that he exclaims "death to all evil." This suggests that he'd kill even jaywalkers or litterbugs.
* LargeHam: Dear God, is he ever. When announcing who he is, he starts posing and punctuating his words around different poses and flexing.
* LastStand: As one of the last two fighters for Universe 11, he strives to make sure his universe remains victorious, even realizing Android 17's [[VictoryByEndurance plan to outlast him with weak attacks fueled by his infinite stamina]]. After nearly getting wiped out by Frieza and 17, he decides to stop holding back and completely transitions into a God of Destruction. This is also combined with Jiren, a LastStand of their universe as well. However, [[spoiler:Toppo's efforts were naught by Vegeta]].
* LetsGetDangerous:
** After Dyspo is manhandled by Hit and Goku, Toppo declares that they're no longer fighting for justice, but survival. With their universe down to three warriors, they can't afford to do any less.
** After getting wrecked by Android 17 and Frieza initially, he repeats this again. This time, however, he turns into a God of Destruction, putting him far above Golden Frieza and 17.
* MadeOfIron: Probably Toppo's most impressive trait so far is his durability. Toppo has taken numerous shots from Super Saiyan Blue Goku and a freaking Kamehameha at point blank range with no visible damage. On top of that he's fought for 40 minutes against the universes strongest and taken no damage at all and shrugged off another Kamehameha from Ultimate Gohan like it was nothing. He seems to have no problem handling both 17 and Gohan at the same time, two God tier level fighters.
* MeaningfulName: As detailed under EdibleThemeNaming and ThemeNaming Toppo's name fits both with the Pride Trooper's theme of being named after kitchenware and is also the name of a brand of wine, which hints at him being a potential God of Destruction as well. [[spoiler: Moreover, he's named after a brand of wine, which is similar to how Belmod is named after a type of Fortified Wine, foreshadowing the fact that he is to become Belmod's replacement.]]
* MilkingTheGiantCow: He gestures wildly in nearly every circumstance, which adds to his over-the-top warrior of justice persona. Since his mustache covers his mouth, it also helps him emote with more than just his eyes.
* NoSell: As a God of Destruction, he can surround himself with an aura of destruction energy that renders him immune to attack, as anything that touches him is instantly destroyed. He can still hit fighters in this state, as evidenced by his beatdown of Frieza, but otherwise it makes him untouchable. [[spoiler: Until Vegeta completely bulldozes through it.]]

* OhCrap: When Vegeta gains his HeroicSecondWind, Toppo tries to him him with his newly gained Destruction energy only for Vegeta to punch right through it and starts laying a humiliating beatdown on him, culminating with Vegeta's Final Explosion overwhelming him and knocking him out of the tournament.
* OldSuperhero: While his age is never stated, it's pretty clear Toppo is an old fellow. This doesn't stop him from being a beloved hero for his universe, and the second strongest fighter of Universe 11 behind Jiren himself. And of course, there's the fact his LargeHam personality is a tribute and a bit of a parody of sentai heroes, but he also shows to be quite developed about the Tournament of Power and his possible erasure, making him one of the most serious examples of this trope, comparable to many Creator/DCComics [[UsefulNotes/TheGoldenAgeOfComicBooks Golden Age]] superheroes. [[spoiler: His behavior as the tournament goes on is more of a Silver Age homage.]]
* OneWingedAngel: After he gives into becoming a God of Destruction, he becomes a towering, glowing mountain of muscle that's every bit as powerful as a God of Destruction should be.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: He's being trained as Belmod's replacement, and proves himself capable of fighting Goku on almost even terms, at least until the Grand Priest cut their match short. During the Tournament of Power, he releases his trump card and becomes a God of Destruction himself. He proceeds to crack the arena in half, distort the entire World of Void, and utterly wreck Golden Frieza without breaking a sweat. [[spoiler: It takes Vegeta's "upgraded" Super Saiyan Blue to stop him, and ''then'' only with a near-suicidal explosion attack.]]
* PetTheDog: While initially angry that Kahseral refused a ''direct order'' to continue recruiting warriors for the Tournament of Power (which ''literally'' has the survival of Universe 11 on the line), when he saw that the General did so to save a frightened kitten from being electrocuted, he warmly smiled and patted the heads of the two children who owned said kitten.
* PhysicalGod: Belmod intends to have Toppo replace him, which makes him this by default. While Jiren is stronger then him, Toppo sits comfortably as one of the strongest fighters in the tournament, with only Ultra Instinct Goku [[spoiler:and Vegeta's true power]] being outright stronger then him. Furthermore, Toppo can become a true God of Destruction if he wishes, granting him the same powers as other gods, if not as refined.
* PowerTattoo: As a God of Destruction, he has a tattoo on his torso matching the one on Belmod's waist sash.
* ShadowArchetype: After abandoning his ideals, he's a dark reflection of Vegeta before his full HeelFaceTurn. More specifically, he's a dark reflection of Vegeta, in a lust for power, and in thinking he's gone soft, willingly becoming Majin Vegeta in hopes of becoming a true Saiyan warrior once more. Appropriately, [[spoiler:Vegeta, upon perfecting Super Saiyan Blue (a power he gained after he became a family man, mind you), defeats Toppo even after the latter became a God of Destruction]].
* StoutStrength: He's a huge man indeed, but he's physically strong enough to trade blows with [[HumongousMecha Magetta]] and even fight ''Super Saiyan Blue Goku'' to a standstill.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler: Receives an absolutely ''brutal'' one from Vegeta about how his newfound powers weren't worth sacrificing his pride and ideals for when the prince starts turning the tables against him.]]
* ThemeNaming: The Pride Troopers seems to named after kitchen tools. His name "Toppo" is an anagram of "potto" ("pot").
* TookALevelInCynic:
** The stress of his universe possibly getting erased, coupled with all but three of his team members dropping out, forces Toppo to set aside his ideals of justice and adopt a kill-or-be-killed mindset.

* TookALevelInKindness: [[spoiler: After being defeated by Vegeta, Toppo begins to mellow back into a more heroic figure, giving Jiren some comforting words of wisdom to help him try and move on from his past. He's also returned to being a superhero, after he previously declared justice worthless and embraced his role as a God of Destruction. This all stems from learning what Universe 7 said about Goku fighting for their sake, and what he took away from Vegeta's words during their fight.]]
* TopHeavyGuy: He has an extremely bulky upper body but comparatively tiny legs. It becomes balanced out when he becomes a God of Destruction.
* TranquilFury: His anger at Goku for dooming their universe to possible extinction only manifests itself as a TwitchyEye and an eagerness to pummel him into the dirt.
* UnfitForGreatness: Ultimately proves to be an absolutely atrocious leader during the Tournament of Power. He doesn't lift a finger while 7 of his teammates are being eliminated. He eliminates nobody in the tournament himself, even with God of Destruction powers at his disposal and as a result, even his subordinate Jiren calls him pathetic. Doubles as a HumiliationConga.
* UnskilledButStrong: He's only recently become a God of Destruction, and his abilities as such are naturally unrefined. That said, he's still a God of Destruction, and can easily overpower people who underestimate him.
* VillainousBreakdown: After Vegeta taps into his true power and start plowing though his destruction energy, Toppo starts getting more desperate and, at Belmod's prompting, his shots become more haphazard in the hope that it'll hit him. Even his shouts of "Destroy" start losing steam with each strike Vegeta lands on him.
* WakeUpCallBoss: Despite giving Goku some trouble, he isn't the strongest fighter in his universe. That honor goes to Jiren.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: The top of his uniform gets ripped off [[spoiler:when he chooses to become a God of Destruction. Oddly enough, every other male God of Destruction shown so far with the exception of two of them are shirtless. The only difference is that he doesn't have the proper attire that the other Gods have yet though.]]
* WhatTheHellHero: He is ''not'' pleased by Goku's actions that brought about the Tournament of Power (in the anime at least), and calls him out on it before challenging him at the end of the Zen Exhibition Match. While Goku couldn't have known the consequences Zen'O decided on, he still makes it clear that [[BlackAndWhiteMorality he thinks Goku is a villain]] for starting the whole mess.
