!!Disney/SnowWhite
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/snowwhite-disneyscreencaps_com-11815_2816.jpg]]

Considered the "fairest in all the land", she incites the jealousy of her vain stepmother, Queen Grimhilde when she spies her and a Prince serenading each other. With the help of her would-be murderer sent by the Queen, Snow White flees until she comes across the cottage of the Seven Dwarfs, whom she befriends.

->'''Voiced by:''' Adriana Caselotti, Creator/MaryKayBergman, Carolyn Gardner, Katherine Von Till
----

* AdaptationDyeJob: While averted in the final film--since Snow White has hair "as black as ebony" as described in most versions--surviving pre-production drawings showed potential blonde or redheaded Snow White's.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: While the villain is renown for her beauty, it is Snow White whose beauty ends up being a feature that convinces the dwarfs to trust her, and the Evil Queen shows her ugliness at the end for further emphasis to the lovely Snow White.
* CinderellaCircumstances: Although it's never seen quite how the Queen behaved to seduce the king, the Evil Queen certainly follows through with the latter part of the trope, putting her husband's daughter to work, and dressing her in filthy rags to cover her beauty.
** FallenPrincess
* DamselInDistress: Poor Snow White ends up most frequently in mortal peril compared to the others. When the Huntsmen tries to kill her, he spares her out of pity and shame, and so she needed no rescuing. In the forest scene, she seemed to be running out of terror of her surroundings, which could have been attacking her. (Though it might also be her imagination, which is understandable since the poor girl likely had not set foot outside the castle in a ''long'' time) And when she was offered the poisoned apple.
* DisneyDeath: Her moody death and funeral scenes were intended to make children and adults alike unfamiliar with the tale to believe she was truly dead. Nowadays the ending is completely ubiquitous in culture.
* {{Expy}}: Concept sketches of Snow White showed she was originally going to look much closer to BettyBoop. If you squint you can still see the resemblance. This was due to both of them being designed by the same person, GrimNatwick, as well as the style women were drawn in at the time.
* FairestOfThemAll: The most famous example: the Evil Queen hates Snow White for being the most beautiful person in the land.
* FauxDeath[=/=]BackFromTheDead: The curse itself is called "Sleeping Death", so it's not clear whether she was dead in a state of perfect preservation, or if the dwarfs really didn't check for a pulse.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: Is implied to be a SupremeChef by way of her association with the pie she makes for Grumpy, though it's never tasted.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Unlike the other princesses (save Tiana in frog form) the audience gets to watch her befriend the animals of the forest.
* HairDecorations: Her hairband, which is blue in peasant clothes and red in princess clothes.
* TheHeroine: Of the story. It centres on her.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Snow White is so kind, so sweet-natured and so good-hearted to everything and everyone she wins over even the most shy and unruly of creatures.
* TheIngenue: The most prominent example among the Disney Princesses. Since the movie came out in such early times, her innocence and naivete are meant to be very appealing, and provide a sufficient explanation for why she trusts the hag or is terrified of the forest.
* IWantSong: "I'm Wishing", "Someday My Prince Will Come".
* OfficialCouple: With the Prince.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her mother died when she was young and her father doesn't appear to be present in the movie, if he is alive.
* PimpedOutDress: Like all of the princesses, her merchandise particularly focuses on collar and skirt when it pimps her out.
* ThePollyanna: At most she breaks down briefly in fear, but she is quick to revive from attempted murder and maintains a very cheery, positive disposition.
* PrincessClassic: The sweet-singing, sweet-natured and beautiful Snow White ends up with her prince in a castle in the clouds.
* ProperLady: Her feminine skills are emphasized more than any other princess, and thus she is perhaps the most quintessential example.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: "Lips red as the rose. Hair black as ebony. Skin white as snow." Snow White is probably at least a contender for TropeCodifier.
* RoyalBlood
* SatelliteLoveInterest: The prince with no name, who could not be more present in the movie due to the difficulties of animating young men.
* SculleryMaid: Hoping to cover up her beauty, the Evil Queen assigns her to hard labor in rags as a scullery maid, but this doesn't stop the Prince from loving her.
* SmittenTeenageGirl: In regards to the Prince. When she first sees the Prince, she instantly and deeply falls in love with him.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: Despite the Evil Queen's efforts to make her uglier by dressing her in rags and making her work, Snow White still becomes the fairest in the land by fourteen, so the Queen demands her death.
* SupremeChef: Suggested. She's iconically associated with the pie she makes for Grumpy, but it's never actually tasted. They seem to like her cooking according to the [=CDs=] and in the video game "Kinect Disneyland".
* TeamMom: To the dwarves.
* TrueLovesKiss: Notably, it's specifically "love's ''first'' kiss", which implies it only works on chaste women.
* WideEyedIdealist: Snow White is a strong believer that one day, all of her dreams will come true.
* YoungerThanSheLooks: WaltDisney was aiming to make her look to be around 14 years old, which was closer to her age in original versions of the story.
----
!![[Disney/SleepingBeauty Aurora]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sleeping-disneyscreencaps_com-3538_362.jpg]]

On the day of her christening, she was betrothed to Prince Phillip and given the gifts of beauty and song from the fairies Flora and Fauna, but the evil fairy Maleficent cursed her to die on contact with the spindle of a spinning wheel when she was slighted. The third fairy Merryweather mitigated the curse by changing its effect to an enchanted sleep that could be broken by TrueLovesKiss. To prevent any further harm by Maleficent, the fairies took her away to live as a peasant in the forest.

->'''Voiced by:''' Mary Costa, Creator/JenniferHale, Kate Higgins, Erin Torpey (speaking), Cassidy Ladden (singing)
----
* AdvertisedExtra: Poor Aurora is actually in a coma for the second half of the film. The first half? She's losing screen time to the fairies, Prince Phillip, and the two kings.
* ColorCodedMultiplayer: In the Sleeping Beauty edition of the board game ''Pretty Pretty Princess'', the player pieces are all Aurora in her bejeweled gown, but one is pink, one blue, one purple and one gold.
* CoolCrown: Before Tiana, she became the only princess to never appear in clipart or merchandise without a tiara.
* DamselInDistress: Maybe one of the most intense and epic examples among the line, where Prince Phillip must battle a dragon to rescue the princess.
* DangerousSixteenthBirthday: While the curse in Creator/{{Disney}}'s adaptation of ''Disney/SleepingBeauty'' has a 16-year time period to be fulfilled instead of a certain day, the curse was fulfilled on Aurora's 16th birthday, just moments before its time was up.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Despite apparently having access to shoes, Aurora prefers to go barefoot when she ventures into the forest.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: Aurora tells her animal friends that she dreams of finding love with a prince, and that she hopes the fact she dreamt it more than once means it will come true. It does.
* FormFittingWardrobe: Her princess dress really fits her torso well, which can be done by a skilled tailor, but in this case with the aid of magic.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: It seems the woodland creatures were her only companions outside of her "aunts".
* GirlInTheTower: Where she the Fairies put her to rest to await TrueLovesKiss; it becomes more of a prison when Maleficent is there guarding it with minions, thorns, and her own ScaledUp self.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's a beautiful, young, romantic, innocent girl.
* HollywoodCostuming: Her princess dress would fit more with the fancy dresses in films like ''Film/RomanHoliday'' than medieval times (even the GorgeousPeriodDress versions). Even her peasant dress fits the silhouettes of the 1950s instead of peasant attire of the past.
* HypnotizeThePrincess: Maleficent hypnotizes her with a green ball of light, in order to make her prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel.
* TheIngenue: Her most prominent character traits are her romanticism and innocence.
* IWantSong: "I Wonder", where she sings about wanting a companion and lover.
* KingIncognito: Just not her intention.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: The only people she can remember knowing have been hiding a large secret from her for sixteen years.
* OfficialCouple: With Prince Phillip.
* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: They even met ''before'' they knew they were to be wed.
* PimpedOutDress: Her princess dress isn't an example, but the CostumePorn editions of it in the merchandise certainly do.
* PrincessClassic: Aurora is the most traditional and fairy tale like of the princesses. Many common interpretations of them are inspired directly by Aurora and her story, right down to a typical PrinceCharming's dressing like Phillip. As such, she's often represented in the merchandise as the most quintessential princess. For example, her name is always styled as "Princess Aurora" and she is always shown to be wearing her crown, which were both unique to the line before Tiana.
* PrincessesPreferPink / TrueBlueFemininity: Aurora herself never chooses the color of her dress. Flora and Merryweather got in a fight over the color of the dress - pink or blue. It's mostly blue throughout the movie. In the merchandise, it's usually pink. Older fans of the princesses generally prefer blue, but there can be some fighting over which color is better. Occasionally Disney puts her in a [[GracefulLadiesLikePurple violet dress]] as a compromise.
* PurpleEyes: Aurora is probably the most magical of the princesses, having been enchanted to look beautiful, sing beautifully, and be beloved. This is reflected by her eyes; she is the only princess to have an abnormal eye color.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Phillip has more personality than previous princes (he's the first one to have a name, for starters), but since the good fairies move most of the plot, he and Aurora exist mostly to fall in love with each other and get menaced by Maleficent.
* SimpleYetOpulent: Her dress, again fitting the high fashion standards of when the film was made.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Aurora bears a strong resemblance to her mother, which possibly indicates the Fairies may have enchanted ''her'' too when she was a little girl.
* TheTragicRose: Her "peasant" name is Briar Rose (a nod to her name in TheBrothersGrimm tale), and the fairies place a rose to her chest when her curse is fulfilled.
* TrueLovesKiss: The compromise for altering Maleficent's curse for Aurora to die was to change it into an everlasting sleep that could only be broken by this.
* YoungerThanSheLooks: Some fans have a hard time believing that Aurora is meant to be 16, with some going as far to say that she looks to be in her twenties, probably because all of her models were in their 20s, as well as the art style being fairly sharp.
----
!![[Disney/TheLittleMermaid Ariel]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/PrincessAriel_8422.jpg]]

A rebellious mermaid princess, she desired most to live above the sea and learn about humans, despite the wishes of her father, Triton the Sea King. After rescuing the human prince Eric and falling in love with him, she makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula to be turned into human. They bargain that she must receive the kiss of True Love by three days, or else belong to Ursula.

->'''Voiced by:''' Jodi Benson
----
* ActionGirl: Excusing Mulan and Rapunzel, Ariel gets into the most action scenarios, especially in any extra material she appears in.
* AlmostKiss: With Eric, which is interrupted by Flotsam and Jetsam so she doesn't fulfill her bargain.
* BareYourMidriff: Wears only a seashell bra for the first half of the movie.
* BirdsOfAFeather: She wanted to escape her underwater life to live above ground. Eric wanted to escape his landlocked life to go out to sea.
* CharacterTics: Ariel sighs so that it blows her bangs upward and bites her lip, the latter of which was taken from the animator's wife as a habit.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Seen this way by other merpeople due to her obsession with human things.
* CollectorOfTheStrange: She has a grotto full of human stuff, which are considered strange by merfolk standards.
* CoolCrown: Wears a gold tiara as part of her wedding dress. She gets a few more crowns in the sequel, and of course in the merch.
* CuteMute: Ariel when she loses her voice, which requires some of the best animation in the film in getting her to express herself without speaking.
* DistressBall: Triton saving her and Eric saving her make up most of the climax, although Ariel does deliver Eric to safety twice in the film.
* DealWithTheDevil: Ursula's deal with Ariel to turn her into a human.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Well Ariel never saw a horse-drawn carriage before, so she didn't know how. A bit of HilarityEnsues (it's not stated in the sequel if she learned since then).
* EightiesHair: Not the frizzy and curly kind, but her hair is certainly voluminous, and maintains its shape even when being underwater should weigh it down.
* FairytaleWeddingDress: Gets a big, poofy [[TheEighties '80s]] version in her wedding with Eric, which helped characterize that specific look as a fairy tale wedding dress in the modern age (along with Cinderella).
* FieryRedhead: More rebellious than angry, and easier to see in the first half of the movie.
* FishOutOfWater: It's actually Ariel's dream, and although she doesn't exactly blend in, she's endearing enough that it doesn't bother the people she meets.
* GenerationXerox: She's got it from her mother, Queen Athena, and her daughter Melody looks identical to her in all but color scheme.
* GiantPoofySleeves: As per '80s norm, and probably no small part in why poofy sleeves are still considered princess-y (along with Snow White).
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Her seashell bikini top, and her dress in the sequel.
* HotMom: In the sequel, where she hasn't aged a day.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Ariel's innocence is especially emphasized when she meets Ursula, who despite many signs decides to trust for a chance to be with Eric and be human.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: When she first becomes human, the only thing she's wearing is her SeashellBra. Not having much knowledge of clothes, who knows how much longer she would have went naked without care if Scuttle hadn't given her that old sail.
* IWantSong: "Part Of Your World".
* MamaBear: So far the only princess where we see that she's had children (although it's not outright denied that the other princesses become mothers).
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Implied that she is this to Eric; in the dinner scene, his housekeeper mentions that he rarely laughed before he met Ariel.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Ariel has six older sisters: [[AlphabeticalThemeNaming Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella and Alana]].
* MissingMom: Athena, whose role is filled out in a prequel movie.
* OfficialCouple: With Prince Eric.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: Although little is fleshed out about their culture in the first two movies (the series fixes this).
* PimpedOutDress: Her pink dress and wedding dress in the first movie, and a few more in the sequel.
* PinocchioSyndrome: The main plot point of the movie is Ariel becoming human.
* PrincessesPreferPink: The first human dress she's seen wearing, and her nightgown, are pink.
* RebelliousPrincess: Although it's never expressed whether she had any royal duties, she's probably the most rebellious of the princesses.
* RedHeadedHeroine: Her red hair is so memorable it's quite often that ''any'' mermaid is depicted with red hair nowadays.
* RedheadInGreen: As a mermaid, Ariel has a green tail. In the sequel, one of her dresses was green. And her redesign dress is green too.
* RescueRomance: Although Eric gets the biggest moment with saving Ariel at the climax, the true Rescue Romance is actually Ariel saving Eric, which leads them both to falling in love. His obsession with the beautiful singer who saved him leads him to overlook Ariel as a love interest for the first day of knowing her.
* SeashellBra: Most likely the TropeCodifier, but not the TropeMaker--the mermaids in ''Disney/PeterPan'' had them first.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: She turns into sea foam at the end of the fairy tale, and must work to gain a soul.
* SpiritedYoungLady
* StaticCharacter: She was one of the earliest complex female leads from Disney, but her personality never undergoes any changes.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: In ''Ariel's Beginning'', her mother Queen Athena looks exactly like Ariel with {{green eyes}}.
* TookALevelInBadass: In a lot of works other than the movie, she does this, notably the animated series, the first sequel, and some of the ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' games.
* TrueBlueFemininity: The dress she wore while on a date with Eric, as well as the sparkling gown she wears after her final transformation.
* TrueLovesKiss: Her actual given mission in her movie is to get "the kiss of true love".
* YoungestChildWins: Of the "the other ones are boring" variety. Ariel is the most unique in appearance, as well as the most praised in voice. She is the only one with whom the movie focuses on. The animated series and prequel does a bit to flesh out the other sisters.
----
!![[Disney/{{Aladdin}} Jasmine]]
[[quoteright:259:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Jasmine_Princess_Pic.png]]

As princess of Agrabah, she must marry by her sixteenth birthday, yet only wishes to marry for love. Tired of the confines of palace life, she escapes and meets a peasant thief named Aladdin, whose life she saves when he is caught by the thugs of the evil vizier to her father, Jafar, before being returned to the palace. With the help of the Genie, Aladdin later becomes Prince Ali unbeknownst to Jasmine and tries to win her heart.

->'''Voiced by:''' Linda Larkin-Vasquez (speaking), Lea Salonga (singing), Liz Callaway (singing)
----
* ActionGirl: Mostly in the animated series, though she was always quite strong.
* BareYourMidriff
* BedlahBabe: In fact is probably the premier example in fiction (so much so that Halloween versions of this dress are often deliberately modelled after her). Her outfit is the source of some controversy and also some difficulties with portraying her in the line--since she doesn't wear a swishy ballgown she often looks out of place in the line when they're in unique {{Pimped Out Dress}}es.
* DaddysGirl: She's a cross between this and RebelliousPrincess, as she loves her father dearly, but doesn't always see eye-to-eye with him.
* DistressBall: She's captured by Jafar and forced to bow to him, serve him, and dress seductively. He does try to seduce Jafar, but the plot fails. The final sequence of the movie traps her in an giant hourglass filling quickly with sand as Aladdin tries to outwit Jafar.
* EverythingsSparklyWithJewelry: Her outfit is fairly loaded with jewels in the merchandise.
* GoldMakesEverythingShiny: Her necklace and earrings.
* HairDecorations: Her headband.
* HotterAndSexier: The original ''Aladdin'' movie has an in-universe example when Jafar puts Jasmine in GoGoEnslavement. It cuts lower at cleavage and crotch to emphasize this.
* HypnotizeThePrincess: Subverted, she faked it for a distraction.
* IJustWantToBeFree: Although after the first attempt ending so disastrously (and then shortly meeting Ali after), she stops trying.
* ImpossibleHourglassFigure: Along with Ariel, she has the most exaggerated figure of any Disney Princess or heroine.
* MarryForLove: If she's gotta get married, it better be to the guy ''she'' wants!
* MissingMom: Her mother is mentioned briefly when the Sultan says her mother wasn't nearly so picky, but is otherwise presumed dead.
* MsFanservice: Her blue outfit and especially her red slave outfit are among the most revealing in the line, and she's the only princess who actively behaves (if only to make a point or protect herself) seductively.
* OfficialCouple: With Aladdin.
* OutOfFocus: Played with. She's the only princess to not be the star of her own movie but still has a very big role.
* ParentService: Probably the most sexualized of any of the Disney Princesses, presumably because the movie is about Aladdin and she's meant to be seen through his eyes.
* RapunzelHair: Notably until ''Tangled'', she had the longest hair of any Disney Princess. And still does if you discount magical enhancement.
* RebelliousPrincess: Not only does she not want to get married, she also doesn't enjoy the confinements of palace life--therefore she is the most quintessential example in the line.
* RunawayFiancee: Really any fiancee, since Jasmine wasn't interested in marrying for anything but love.
* ShowSomeLeg: The only Disney Princess who tries to bait the villain with her affections. It almost worked, if not for the reflection of the tiara she wore.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Doesn't give one flying rat's ass about all the rich, snobby princes trying to woo her, and instead goes for the poor, good-hearted Aladdin. The whole film even gives the message BeYourself.
* SkirtOverSlacks: [[http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130315220152/disney/images/3/39/522620_511308955593370_174432130_n.jpg Her redesign outfit features this.]]
* SpoiledSweet: Along with Ariel, she's the only Disney Princess who actually grew up as a princess. Her life is especially shown to be grand and sumptuous.
* TookALevelInBadass / {{Xenafication}}: In the TV series.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her outfit was colored a bright blue to invoke the idea of an oasis in the desert.
* {{Tsundere}} A Type B -- contrary to her reputation among fans as being very temperamental, Jasmine only ever reacts poorly to the people she believes are trying to use her, and otherwise she is a sunny and friendly person.
* TheUglyGuysHotDaughter: As is generally true of many comic-relief Disney dads, the Sultan is a short, fat man (though not ''cartoonishinly'' ugly either), and his daughter is beautiful and willowy.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: She's only ''fifteen'' at the start of the film.
----
!![[Disney/{{Tangled}} Rapunzel]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rapunzel-dp_7175.jpg]]

Born to a queen who needed the power of a magic flower to come to term with her, she was stolen by the witch Gothel who had been previously using the flower to remain forever youthful. The witch discovers that Rapunzel's hair now holds the power of the flower unless it is cut, and so keeps her locked in a hidden tower and unaware of her heritage, until the thief Flynn Rider tries to make her tower a hideaway spot. She strikes a deal for him to bring her to see the floating lanterns that have appeared every year on her birthday, in exchange for the item he stole: the Princess' crown.

->'''Voiced by:''' Music/MandyMoore
----
* ActionGirl: The first sign of her, in the original trailers, is her beating someone up with PrehensileHair. Although this didn't make it into the film, she remains a pretty mean hand with a [[FryingPanOfDoom frying pan]] and saves Flynn's bacon on more than one occasion.
* ArtShift: As Disney's first princess to appear in a 3D computer-animated film, Rapunzel is given a 2D [[http://emilysdisneythoughts.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/554512_10151273014302620_1182212377_n.jpg makeover]] in promotional material for the line to match with the other princesses.
* BadassAdorable: Cute as a button, but not even the least afraid to talk down angry thugs and angry horses.
* BlitheSpirit: Her cheerful, genuine nature is what brings out the good side of the thugs at the Snuggly Duckling (and saves Flynn's life).
* CharacterDevelopment: Rapunzel loses her fear of the outside world and learns to stand up to her abusive adoptive mother.
* CuteClumsyGirl
* DoesNotLikeShoes: One would think her feet would hurt a bit more after being stuck in the same smooth floors of a tower for her entire life, though.
* FairytaleWeddingDress: In the follow-up short.
* FantasticLightSource: She uses her magic hair to find the way out of a flooded cave.
* FryingPanOfDoom: Her rather dynamic weapon.
* GenkiGirl: Probably the most energetic of all of the Princesses (only matched by Ariel in her first days as a human).
* GirlInTheTower
* GirlyBruiser: Though she doesn't discover that she's a badass until she leaves her tower at age 18. To make the example even more pronounced, her weapons of choice are her 70 feet of hair and a frying pan.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Her main outfit is a purple and lavender dress.
%% Rapunzel does not fit the criteria for GreenEyes, please don't add here
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Although the hair is gold by magic, she is still kind enough to stir the hearts of the thugs at the Snuggly Duckling.
* IJustWantToBeFree: Although initially her wish is simply to leave her tower once, when she discovers the joys of freedom she doesn't want to give it up.
* ImportantHaircut: Done to her hair by Flynn, to stop Gothel from using Rapuzel anymore.
* TheIngenue: Her naivete and innocence are two of her biggest traits, and end up being strengths for her on occasion.
* IWantSong: "When Will My Life Begin?"
* LivingMacGuffin / MacGuffinGirl: Her hair, which can heal any would and sickness, and grant someone everlasting youth is why she's locked in a tower.
* MagicHair: See above.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: From Flynn's perspective, her energy and good-heartedness cause him to change his ways and his life.
* MoodSwinger: In one memorable scene when she goes out to the world for the first time in 18 years.
* NoInfantileAmnesia: Despite the fact she was an infant, she somehow manages to remember the layout of her room and has been painting signs of it her whole life unknowingly.
* OfficialCouple: With Flynn Rider aka Eugene Fitzherbert.
* PluckyGirl: She's quite determined to see the "stars" from her birthday, even though her mother is constantly gas-lighting and deriding her, and she definitely takes some initiative in fulfilling her dreams.
* PrincessesPreferPink: At the end of the movie, she wears a rosy-pink dress.
* RapunzelHair: Being a retelling of the TropeNamer, she couldn't do without it, but some magic justifies it here.
* RescueRomance: Rapunzel and Flynn save each other several times.
* SimpleYetOpulent: Her princess dress and wedding dress.
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: Of the Disney Princesses, she suffers more AmusingInjuries than any other.
* SpiritedYoungLady
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Between Rapunzel and her real mother, the queen. Especially at the end, when they're both brunette and the camera frames them reuniting, right down to the huge green eyes. Rapunzel and the Queen look so alike that ''she does not need to do anything else to show that she's the lost princess'', despite having a completely different hair color when she was a baby.

!![[WesternAnimation/{{Brave}} Merida]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_brave-disneyscreencapscom-8104_9569.jpg]]

As the eldest child of King Fergus and Queen Elinor of [=DunBroch=], her life is weighted with responsibilities and expectations. When Merida blatantly defies an ancient tradition, the consequences of her actions prove disastrous for the kingdom--and especially when innocent bystanders end up affected. She races against time to make right the result of her reckless behavior, and mend the bond torn by pride.

->'''Voiced by:''' KellyMacdonald
----
* ActionDressRip: During the archery contest. Not the skirt, but the back, shoulders and sleeves by flexing, which is realistic given the action in question.
* ActionGirl: When confronted with Mor'du, a monster of a bear, she notches an arrow and fires. In the climax, she gets the better of the three chiefs and her father in close combat.
* ArcherArchetype: {{Averted|Trope}}. Although she's certainly skilled with a bow and arrow, she's less calm and composed and more of a FieryRedhead.
* ArtShift: As with Rapunzel, Merida was given a 2D [[http://www.cartoonbrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/merida.jpg redesign]] in order to fit the Disney Princess franchise.
* {{Badass}}: How badass is Merida? Well, aside from using LoopholeAbuse to win the archery tournament for her own hand in marriage, climbing the Firefalls, facing Mor'du multiple times ''even when her arrows were having no effect'', and facing her own father in sword combat to protect her mother... she manages to sew a tapestry while galloping on horseback through a raging thunderstorm. She gets it from both parents.
** BadassPrincess: "A princess does not put her weapons on the table."
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: She wanted to avoid marriage and is horrified at what happens when she finds a way. The three chiefs declare war on each other and her father because of it, and her mother is turned into a bear.
* BowAndSwordInAccord: Although she seems to favor the former, she's shown wielding the latter like a pro.
* BraveScot: She has the same valor as the ancient kings, and her father notes that drinking from the Fire Falls is a feat of the very brave.
* BreakTheCutie[=/=]BreakTheHaughty: Her character development is letting go of her selfishness and growing up. So she irresponsibly made the wish of having her mother change, not expecting to take the first steps to grab her own destiny? Well, her dear mother and her brothers shall be transformed into bears, and Merida will have to fix up this big mess herself ''and'' learn that [[ComingOfAgeStory she must put some effort on being a better person, as well as able to forge her way in life]]!
* CompressedHair: Merida wears a tight-fitting headdress as part of her royal attire, which must be a bother given the untamed mass of her hair.
* CoolBigSis: Her brothers only like their dad's story when ''she'' tells it. Especially notable for being the ''ONLY'' older sister in the entire princess franchise (Ariel's the youngest in her family, and it can be debatable whether or not Cinderella's step-siblings count. all the other princess' are only children)
* DaddysGirl: Gets along much better with Fergus than with Elinor because of she's doesn't want to be a ProperLady.
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: Merida's main motivation is based upon this trope. This is medieval Scotland, after all.
* FieryRedhead: Headstrong, passionate, and with hair colored more like fire than the usual examples halfway down her back.
* GirlinessUpgrade:
** Most dolls of Merida have her looking far more ladylike than she really is. The [[http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0yl7zR3E41r1wmszo1_500.jpg Disney store model]] is closer to the original, but the [[http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzb1trgGZq1r1wmszo1_500.jpg Mattel collection]] barely resembles her. This even extends to the tie-in toy archery sets; while the Disney Store's are a rather accurate replica of her bow, the ones available at other stores are ''purple''.
** Her appearance in the Disney Princess line has people debating over whether or not Merida is girlier, whether that's bad, whether it's overdone, etc. Detractors include Brenda Chapman, the first person assigned to direct the film.
* HorseArcher: Merida's contest of choice is archery because she is an ace with a bow and arrow. She can even hit a perfect bullseye while on horseback. She doesn't share the calmness and self-possession that usually comes with ArcherArchetype role, instead matching the untamed power of the horse.
* HotBlooded: She's more comfortable riding horesback and shooting at arrow targets then sitting at home and calmly discussing matters of state. It also bites her in the ass badly, as she decides to make a rash, open stand against her mother and tradition in such a way as to anger the lords and threaten to start a war.
* ImpracticallyFancyOutfit: Although not as blatant as Elinor, the turquoise dress she's effectively forced into would be extremely lovely if not for how uncomfortable it makes Merida. The dress she wears at the end of the movie, which is barely seen, is both elegant ''and'' practical.
* InTheHood: Hides her head on a few occasions with the hood of her cape.
* InnocentBlueEyes: More along the "youthful" and "inexperienced" categories than really "innocent".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's stubborn, rebellious, sarcastic, and rather self-centered... but underneath it all, she has a kind and heroic heart.
* [[LikeFatherLikeSon Like Father, Like Daughter]]: Although Merida clearly has inherited her mother's stubbornness and pride ([[IResembleThatRemark contrary to Elinor's opinion]]), Merida is very much a chip off the old block when it comes to her love of fighting, weapons, and woods exploration, and her overall badassery. In the end, it turns out there's badassery in [[SilkHidingSteel her mother too]].
* MessyHair: Normally her hair is lose and full instead of groomed like her mother.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Her reaction when she realizes that her fate-changing spell has GoneHorriblyRight.
* MyNameIsInigoMontoya: "I am Merida! Firstborn descendant of the Clan [=DunBroch=], and I'll be shooting for my ''own'' hand!"
* NeverMyFault: For the majority of the film, Merida blames her mother being given a BalefulPolymorph into a bear on the witch who gave her her fate-changing spell, instead than aknowledging that she commited a huge mistake. [[CharacterDevelopment It's only at the end of the film after she believes she's lost her mother that she breaks down and says she's sorry]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: The main conflict of the film is largely Merida's fault because she throws three bullseye into the bethroal tradition.
* OfCorsetHurts: At one point, Queen Elinor dresses Princess Merida up in a corset, and Merida complains that she can't breathe. What's really odd about all this is that the movie takes place in Medieval Scotland, and corsets shouldn't exist yet.
* OfficialCouple: Averted. She's the only princess in the line not to have a love interest.
* OutdoorsyGal: Horseback riding, cliff climbing, etc. Notable amongst the Disney Princess line in that she has the opportunity for a comfortable, indoors life but chooses against it. The only other example is Pocahontas, who naturally enjoys nature.
* OutnumberedSibling: One daughter versus three sons.
* PluckyGirl: Her mother transforming into a bear was a shock but quickly made a {{plan}} for keeping her safe and fixing the problem.
* PoliticallyActivePrincess: King Fergus and the Scottish lords on the verge of war when Princess Merida brings the four factions back together and declares that one should choose who he marries according to his heart. Her suitors agree, stating that their arranged marriage was their fathers' idea. Thus, the clan leaders agree that their sons must win Merida's heart before winning her hand.
* QuirkyCurls: Yet another contrast with her mother who has two smooth, perfect plaits.
* RapunzelHair: It goes down to her hips, even being incredibly curly. Likely it would be as long as her mother's if straightened out.
* RebelliousPrincess:
-->'''Mark Andrews:''' [[http://www.holymoly.com/film-dvd/interviews/qa-pixars-brave-director-mark-andrews-hes-not-brave-thats-oh-never-mind62547 ... she's gonna be a Queen someday and doesn't want to be, doesn't want to learn and just wants to be reckless.]]
%%Please do not add RedheadInGreen without going to discussion first
* RedHeadedHeroine
* ScrewDestiny: ZigZagged--Merida wants to change her fate, and while it has unexpected consequences, and it seems as if she's punished for it, the will-o'-the-wisps are leading her on a path to fight her destiny...meaning it might be her destiny to change her destiny.
* SeanConneryIsAboutToShootYou: Well "Merida Is About to Shoot You". The first released image was of [[http://www.geekforcefive.com/images/uploads/pixar-brave_610.jpg Merida aiming a bow right at the camera.]] She does the same against a bear in the trailer.
* SplittingTheArrow / ImprobableAimingSkills: Merida is a damned good shot in archery; hitting three bulls-eyes in a row and splitting the other guy's arrow on the third with so much force it breaks ''through'' the back of the target. She considers herself the winner of the contest for her hand.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Elinor tries to [[InvokedTrope invoke this trope]] by putting Merida in a more ladylike turquoise dress. The end of the movie sees both Elinor and Merida in a dress of a similar shade, indicating that they've accepted each other's differences and similarities.
* WildHair
* WrongGenreSavvy: She's intelligent enough to know that just cancelling the games will mortally offend the other clans ("We'll expect your declarations of war in the morning!"), but her attempt to TakeAThirdOption by entering the games ''herself'' winds up with the same result.
* YouthfulFreckles

!!Disney/{{Cinderella}}
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cinderella-disneyscreencaps_com-5347_4091.jpg]]

Born to a wealthy man who was later widowed, her stepmother, Lady Tremaine, was jealous of her beauty in comparison to her own daughters. She was forced to work as a maid under her care after her father died, and she wanted to go to the royal ball that was to be held by Prince Charming. With the help of her Fairy Godmother, she was able to meet and fall in love with the Prince, until the stroke of midnight forced her to flee before the magic of the Fairy Godmother broke, leaving behind only a glass slipper.

->'''Voiced by:''' Illene Woods, Creator/JenniferHale (speaking), Lesli Margherita (singing)
----
* AlmostKiss: With Prince Charming, before she's interrupted by the clock striking midnight.
* AngelicBeauty: Lampshaded with her gaining a halo during her TransformationSequence
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: To Anastasia, who's teetering on the brink of a HeelFaceTurn, when she discovers Lady Tremaine's plot to have her marry the Prince, magically disguised as a false Cinderella.
-->'''Cinderella:''' What have you done? The prince won't be fooled.\\
'''Lady Tremaine:''' The prince will never know. He'll be perfectly happy.\\
'''Cinderella:''' But will you, Anastasia? '''Will you be happy'''?\\
'''Anastasia:''' I...I want what you had.\\
'''Cinderella:''' But...do you even love him?
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: In contrast to her stepsisters, whose main traits are "ugly and mean".
* CinderellaCircumstances: Obviously.
* DamselInDistress: Though never put in any sort of mortal peril. In order to get to the ball, first she needs the help of the mice, and then the fairy godmother. While not weak-willed, she's not really seen helping herself in a long-term way. She did come up with the idea of getting Bruno to get rid of Lucifer at the end, so she played a small part in freeing herself from her room. In her third film, she does undergo quite a bit of {{Xenafication}}, probably more starkly than any other princess.
* DeadpanSnarker: Particular nice for one, but has a snarky sense of humor nonetheless.
* DisappearedDad: We actually get a good look at him in the movie's StorybookOpening, but that's about it.
* EverythingsBetterWithSparkles: Her magical dress does this sometimes.
* FairytaleWeddingDress: The first princess to get one of her own in her movie.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Specifically to her legion of mice, but she also is friends with birds, a dog and a horse.
* TheGirlWhoFitsThisSlipper: {{Subverted|Trope}}; the slipper breaks before she can try it on. Fortunately, however, she was GenreSavvy enough to ''keep the other shoe'', so she's s able to produce its match ''and'' make more to prove her identity than just fitting the slipper would have done (although the Grand Duke tries it on her anyhow just to make it official).
* GorgeousGarmentGeneration: The scene where her ruined dress is transformed into a sparkling silver one is a very iconic scene for the movie, the line, and Disney itself.
* HairDecorations: She wears a bow and head scarf in her peasant outfit, a bow headband with her pink dress, and a black headband with her silver gown.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Strawberry blond, but otherwise she's beautiful, young, kind, determined and patient. This trope could possibly explain why she was made outright blonde in the merchandise.
* HotConsort: The prince is first stunned by her and marries her because of her loveliness and grace.
* HopeSpringsEternal: Her biggest virtue. The third film [[{{deconstruction}} deconstructed]] a bit that she cannot just hope a better life, she must also '''do''' it in order to make it come true.
* IWantSong: "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes".
* LooseLips: In the third movie when she admits that she was the princess in front of the stepmother, causing her to take the slipper from Cinderella and dropping it, causing it to break.
* MissingMom: Cinderella's mom gets a couple tiny nods; the prologue makes it clear that she died in the backstory and the main reason her dad married again was because he thought she needed a mother. ''Then'' he died too.
* NiceGirl: Absurdly so. It pays off in the end, though.
* NiceShoes: Her glass slippers.
* NotSoStoic: For most of her movie, she manages to be [[ThePollyanna quietly cheerful while being treated as a slave in her own home]]. She finally breaks down when the stepsisters ruin her dress and, with it, her chance to go to the ball. This is what finally triggers the fairy godmother to appear to her: when she gives up hope.
* OfficialCouple: With Prince Charming.
* OperaGloves: Along with the other two Disney Princesses who became a princess by marriage.
* ParentalAbandonment
* PimpedOutDress
* PinkMeansFeminine: The dress the mice made for her, and it crossed with DoomedNewClothes. And in the sequel, she wore a [[PrincessesPreferPink pink version]] of her iconic ball gown. The dress itself was intended to look very girly and old-fashioned, in contrast to the more elegant silver dress.
* ThePollyanna: Possibly her most notable trait is her determination to stay cheerful and hopeful.
* RagsToRiches: Since Rags to Riches are often called "Cinderella stories", that's a given.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: "Prince Charming", [[AscendedExtra minus the third movie]], anyway. He has a bit of character, but is still more of a plot device than a real romance interest.
* SilkHidingSteel
* TookALevelInBadass / {{Xenafication}}: In ''Cinderella III''.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her nightgown and her ball gown.
* TheUnfavorite
* UnkemptBeauty: Even when her dress is ruined by her stepsisters, she still looks beautiful. Also shown in the third movie when her wedding dress and hair is ruined again and she still keeps her beauty.
* WhenTheClockStrikesTwelve

[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/belle_princess_3953.jpg]]

A young French peasant woman with a passion for reading, she is considered the odd one out in her small hamlet, but widely renown for her great beauty, especially by the narcissistic hunter Gaston. Her father Maurice, while lost in a forest, trespasses upon the castle of a Beast who is a cursed prince. The Beast only releases him when she agrees to stay with him forever, which he hopes will eventually lead to her loving him and break the spell that made him a Beast. After a night of coming to terms with each other, they slowly bond and fall in love.

->'''Voiced by:''' Paige O'Hara, Julie Nathanson
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Regarded as odd by the other townspeople for her love of reading and for being the daydreamer that she is; Belle herself has a hard time finding someone other than her father to befriend.
* BeastAndBeauty: Her name in this films is just "Beauty" in French.
* BookWorm: She's run out of books to read at the town library and starts liking the Beast when he shows her his library.
* BrainyBrunette: She is the only Disney Princess with brown hair throughout her film, and she is the only Disney Princess whose intelligence is emphasized (as opposed to implied).
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: With the Beast--though she's unafraid of putting her foot down when he screams and roars. In fact she only began acting friendlier towards him when he saves her life.

* CharacterTics: Belle tucks back a lock of hair that's always falling in her face.
* CuteBookworm: So much of a bookworm that her opening song consists of her going to a bookshop and reading.
* DaddysGirl: The movie really begins with her selfless offer to the Beast to save her father Maurice at the cost of herself.
* DamselInDistress: The climax of the film begins with her capture and rescue; and the film itself is about by her imprisonment by the Beast.
* DeadpanSnarker: Particularly around Gaston.
* GoldMakesEverythingShiny: Her gold ensemble in the famous ballroom scene.
* HappyHolidaysDress: The only princess who gets one during the course of an actual movie, and appropriately in ''Disney/BeautyAndTheBeastTheEnchantedChristmas'', as well.

* HotConsort
* IAmSong: More like a 'She Is' Song, since it's mostly sung by the townspeople.
* InHarmsWay: Belle craves adventure, because her hometown is safe and happy and boring.
* IWantSong: "Belle (Reprise)".
* LoveEpiphany "There's Something There" has a moment where she realizes she is getting feelings for Beast.
* MeaningfulName: To quote the song:
-->'''Villager:''' It's no wonder that her name means beauty/Her looks have got no parallel!
* MissingMom: Like many Disney characters, she's mysteriously missing a parent and no real explanation is given for it. In the musicals, it's explained that she's dead but both Belle and Maurice remember her fondly.
* OfficialCouple: With the Beast (Adam).
* OperaGloves: Along with the other two Disney Princesses who became a princess by marriage.
* TheOtherDarrin: In 2011, Julie Nathanson replaced Paige O'Hara as the voice of Belle.
* PimpedOutDress: Her gold dress and holiday dresses are the most pimped out, but her green and pink dress have a few frills, and are of delicate forms, which would mean they would be made of expensive fabrics.
* PluckyGirl
* ThePowerOfLove: Which changes the Beast and ultimately frees him and his demesne from the curse.
* PrettyInMink: Belle's wine-colored [[PimpedOutCape winter cape]] with white fur trim. In the DirectToVideo sequel, she is also seen in a scarlet jacket with white fur trim, and a matching cape and skirt for when she goes out into the woods. They seem to like putting her in furs.
* PrincessesPreferPink: Her pink dress she wears with her fur cape.
* RuleOfSymbolism: According to the DVDCommentary, her blue dress symbolizes how she doesn't fit in with the rest of the town.
* SilkHidingSteel: Belle reforms Beast first by standing up to him and then with more gentle affection. She's technically a captive with no authority the whole time, and yet she manages to turn the situation to her favor as much as it's possible.
* SimpleYetOpulent: Her pink and green dresses.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She's polite (initially), but completely disinterested in obnoxious, cocky [[TheCasanova Casanova]] Gaston, and falls for the Beast ''only'' when she realizes that TrueBeautyIsOnTheInside.
* SpiritedYoungLady
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her peasant dress, which is what she is seen most often in.
* {{Tsundere}}: A light Type B given some of her interactions with the Beast and Gaston.
* TheUglyGuysHotDaughter: She has a short, portly father who is quite old to have a young girl. (By modern standards, that is)
* YoungerThanTheyLook: She's often considered one of the more mature looking princesses but she's only seventeen.

!![[Disney/ThePrincessAndTheFrog Tiana]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tiana32_9640.png]]

Born in New Orleans in an all-black neighborhood, she has had a talent for cooking since she was younger and aspires to own a restaurant. She meets the exiled Prince Naveen, turned into a frog by voodoo magic, who presumes a kiss from Tiana will break the spell upon him: but she too is turned into a frog, and together the two then try to get out of the bayou and back to New Orleans.

->'''Voiced by:''' Anika Noni Rose
----
* ActionGirl: As a frog, she destroys Facilier's amulet and kicks the frog hunter's butts. The most active of any character in the movie save perhaps the alligator.
* ActorAllusion: Anika Noni Rose is left-handed as well, and specifically requested the animators to make Tiana left-handed.
* AllWorkVsAllPlay: All work vs Naveen's all play.
* BalefulPolymorph: She really doesn't like the idea of being a frog. At all.
* BewitchedAmphibians: The premise of the movie is based on TheFrogPrince.
* CareerVersusMan: Tiana is initially dedicated to ignoring the possibility of romance (and everything else) in favor of her pursuing dream of opening her own restaurant. When push comes to shove, she concludes that sacrificing her newfound love for Naveen in order to achieve her goal alone wouldn't be worth it -- but that doesn't mean she gives up on her goal, simply that she expands it to include him:
-->'''Tiana:''' My dream wouldn't be complete.. without you in it.
* CharacterDevelopment: She loosens up and focuses on what other things she needs out of her life instead of just having a restaurant and doing right by her father's memory.
* CharacterTics: Tiana squints one eye when she cringes.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Charlotte.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Mama Odie tries to tell her to look at what she ''needs'' instead of what she ''wants'' during the "Dig A Little Deeper" song. Tiana, however, interprets it a little differently.
-->'''Odie:''' Do you understand now, miss froggy?\\
'''Tiana:''' Yes! I just need to dig a little deeper and work even harder to get my restaurant!\\
'''Odie:''' Sigh. ''(FacePalm)''
* CoolCrown: She dons four during her movie, and went on to become one of the few princesses to always wear one in merchandise.
* DaddysGirl: Facilier tries to exploit this. It backfires on him.
* {{Determinator}}: In her quest for getting her restaurant.
* DisappearedDad: He died in World War I.
* DishDash: Her waitressing skills are impressive.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: A staunch believer of this.
* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: This trope applies. By marrying Naveen and becoming a princess, their kiss turns them both back to humans.
* FairytaleWeddingDress: Perhaps the most on-the-nose example, since Tiana's one of the only Disney Princesses not from the "fairytale gown" era of fashion as we know it, but also one of the few who really got a decked out wedding dress in her movie.
* FeminineWomenCanCook
* TheFinalTemptation: In the climax, Facilier offers her a vision of what her restaurant could be like, if she gave him back his talisman. He sweet-talks her into it, adding how everyone shunned her for working hard and how nobody believed in her, but in the end she doesn't fall for it.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: When Naveen initially arrived, he tried to woo Tiana while she was cleaning tables, but she ignored him.
* GirlishPigtails: As a kid.
* GorgeousGarmentGeneration: When she's finally transformed back into a human.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Subverted. She refuses to take Facilier's offer of the easy, magical way out. And in the end, even after she marries Naveen, and he reconciles with his filthy-rich family, it's still her money, the coffee cans full of the cash she scraped together from her tips from three jobs, that gets her that building. All it takes is a stare from her new alligator best friend to get those bankers to accept the original offer. It's possible the extra money is only used to help fix the place up, but even then Tiana and Naveen do all the physical labor by themselves.
* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: With Naveen initially, she very much has this attitude.
* HeroicBSOD: Briefly after she loses her restaurant, she becomes stoic and stale.
* HotConsort: An important plot point, as when she becomes a princess through marriage to Naveen, she's able to break the curse upon them both.
* ICantDance: But she learns pretty quickly, especially considering she is a frog at the time.
* [[InkSuitActor Ink Suit Actress]]: Anika Noni Rose bears more than a slight resemblance!
* InTheBlood: Tiana apparently inherited her passion for cooking from her father, who passed his skills onto her when she was little.
* IWantSong: "Almost There", though unlike the others, she wants something ''specific'' (a restaurant) and has already worked hard to get it by the time she bursts into song.
* LonelyAtTheTop: In Facilier's vision, Tiana may have the restaurant she always wanted, but Naveen (nor anyone else she knows) isn't there to share it with her. Once Facilier shows her a memory of her father, she realizes he may not have realized ''his'' dream, but he was happy being with his family nonetheless. And in the end, when she ''does'' realize her dream, she does it together with Naveen, averting this trope.
* LoveEpiphany: During "Ma Belle Evangeline" with Naveen, but she immediately becomes awkward and distant and tries to repress it.
* ModestRoyalty: Post-royal marriage, she dresses in old work clothes and takes a hands-on approach to fixing the restaurant.
* OfficialCouple: With Prince Naveen.
* OperaGloves: Along with the other two Disney Princesses who became a princess by marriage.
* PimpedOutDress: Has the most dresses out of all the princesses in their main movies, despite being out-pimped by her best friend.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: As a frog. See ActionGirl.
* PluckyGirl
* PositiveDiscrimination: With all the controversy surrounding being the first black Disney Princess, and simply ''being'' a Disney Princess at that, Tiana was really pushed as a self-reliant and sufficient character. [[TropesAreNotBad This ended up playing a role in her development throughout the movie.]]
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: "[[RunningGag It's not]] [[IronicEcho slime]]! [[InsistentTerminology It's MUCUS]]!"
* PrettyInMink: During "Almost There", and Facilier's eerie visualization of this dream in the climax, she wears a white fox fur boa.
* [[SelfMadeMan Self-Made Woman]]
* SexyBacklessOutfit: Her green dress doesn't cover much of the back.
* SlapSlapKiss: Her relationship with Naveen.
* TheSouthpaw: The voice actress specifically requested Tiana be left-handed, like herself.
* SpiritedYoungLady: She's 19, canonically. And spirited.
* StraightMan: To [[AllWorkVSAllPlay Naveen]] and [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Louis]].
* SupremeChef: She can create a dinner from scratch in mere seconds and managed to improve Mama Odie's... interesting looking gumbo.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Her favorite condiment is Tabasco Sauce.
* TrueBlueFemininity: The dress she wears at Charlotte's party, the elegant princess gown that contrasts her working-girl yellow peasant dress.
* WellExcuseMePrincess: The critical half to the lazy Naveen.
* {{Workaholic}}: Perhaps her FatalFlaw as she got close to running herself into the ground, but with little regard for friends or fun.

* BadassPacifist: She never picks up a weapon or gets into a fight, but accomplishes a great deal without it.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Her long, silky hair is never so much as mussed in the couple of scrapes she finds herself in, and she always looks majestic and noble.
* BlitheSpirit: To John Smith, whom she shows to treat nature with respect and learn to see the joy and beauty of the surroundings, which eventually she teaches all of the settlers and her tribe.
* TheChiefsDaughter: Follows most of the patterns, including her hand being offered in marriage to an important tribe member and her forgoing his affection for the white John Smith's, and eventually being found out for it. However, she's a bit of a variation in that she, instead of John, is the central protagonist.
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: Her father would vastly prefer Kocuom, the skilled warrior, while she prefers John Smith, foreigner and "savage killer".
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Especially symbolic of her closeness to nature.
* DramaticWind: With her army of leaves at the ready.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: She was the only one who could prevent the plot from going into a bloody massacre.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She's shown communing with several different types of animals, but her animal sidekicks are Flit the hummingbird, and Meeko the raccoon. Later Percy the pug is added.
* IndianMaiden
* InexplicablyAwesome: Her shamanic powers go unnoticed for most of the characters, but she actually accomplishes quite the feats with them; she talks to trees, summons up spirits, leaps over ravines through neigh levitating, survives crashing down in the water from a cliff, and learns English within three seconds.
* InkSuitActor: Of Irene Bedard.
* IWantSong: "Just Around The Riverbend".
* MissingMom: DVD commentary states that the wind that travels around her is meant to be the spirit of her deceased mother.
* NobleSavage: The second half of the movie is mostly teaching John Smith about how to be one with nature and appreciate the beauty of it.
* OfficialCouple: With John Smith. The first movie and most merchandise and other Disney media portray her with John Smith, even though the sequel hooks her up with John Rolfe, her historical husband, whom she is never seen with in merchandising or in other media.
* PimpedOutDress: In the sequel, and as part of some DisneyPrincess merchandise.
* StarCrossedLovers: With John Smith.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: According to her father, she takes after her mother.
* ThePowerOfLove: Utilizes it to stop a genocidal war.
* TemptingFate: "Should I choose the smoothest course?" She should not.
* TookALevelInBadass: Under the guidance of Grandmother Willow, she goes from whining about her problems and sitting around, to taking action and defying her well-intentioned but ''very'' authorative father.
* TragicKeepsake: Her deceased mother's necklace. Even more so after Kocoum destroys it while falling to his death.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: The only person in the entire movie, besides Grandmother Willow, to understand that war is not a plausible option, as it will leave both sides devastated and farther away from a peaceful resolve. Her father comes close to saying this trope word for word describing her. "My daughter speaks with wisdom beyond her years."
* UnexpectedSuccessor: It's implied that she is taking Kocoum's place as her father's successor, especially in the closing scene.
* YoungerThanSheLooks: Many fans indicate her age as 25 years old, enabling her romance with Smith (close to his thirties in this adaptation) furthermore. In actuality, the fact that she was still unmarried makes her 18 years old at best. Ironically, the real life figure she was based on was 11-12 years old at the time this story (allegedly) took place.

!!Disney/{{Mulan}}
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_mulan-disneyscreencapscom-9215_7384.jpg]]

A flighty girl who is the daughter of a retired soldier, and the black sheep of her ancestors. When her father is enlisted for an oncoming war, she secretly takes his place in the field of battle under the command of young general Li Shang as they train in preparations against the Huns and warlord Shan Yu.

->'''Voiced by:''' Ming-Na (speaking), Lea Salonga (singing)
----
* ActionGirl: The first chronological example in the line (that occurs within her own movie), she's also the most action-y of the girls, having saved China. She also has the highest canonical on-screen kill count of ''any'' Disney character. She finishes off an army of fifty thousand Hun nomads with the help of a cannon and a mountain full of snow.
* {{Adorkable}}: Easily the clumsiest of the princesses (including Rapunzel) at the start of her movie, as well as awkward and not entirely desirable. She's still the protagonist and sympathetic.
* AttractiveBentGender
* AwesomeMomentOfCrowning: When the Emperor gifts her with his dragon pendant and Shan-Yu's sword.
* {{Badass}}: Saves China through her martial prowess, as well as topping her platoon in fitness, agility and skill.
** BadassPrincess: In her movie, no, but since she is part of the Disney Princess line-up...
** TookALevelInBadass
* {{Bifauxnen}}: The other soldiers comment what a handsome young boy she makes, and much to Mulan's embarrassment receives some flirtatious looks from women.
* ButtMonkey: To the other soldiers, until she TookALevelInBadass.
* CoolSword: Her father's, though she never really uses it.
* DaddysGirl
* {{Determinator}}[=/=]PluckyGirl: Never throws in the towel, no matter how dire her circumstances get.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Mulan shows she is resourceful and clever by making a way for her dog to feed the chickens so she has time to get change. Also, she is shown resorting to cheating and shows a lack of grace, even before meeting the matchmaker, suggesting that a quiet married life will not properly fulfill her destiny.
* FriendToAllChildren: Proven during "Lesson Number One" in the sequel, and her defense of the little girl the other boys were picking on.
* HairDecorations: The lotus comb that symbolizes her feminine roles, which she puts in place of the draft letter her father was given, and later returned to her when after she saves China with her sword and medal.
* HeroesLoveDogs: She has a puppy named Little Brother for a pet.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo
* ImportantHaircut: Cuts off half of her hair to tie into a topknot to disguise herself as a soldier.
* InNameOnly: The only DisneyPrincess to not actually be a princess.
* JourneyToFindOneself: Happens along the way but she initially leaves to save her father.
* OfficialCouple: With Li Shang.
* PinkMeansFeminine: Her matchmaker dress, in contrast to the more subdued green-ish dress that she prefers later.
* {{Sarashi}}: And yes, it's [[GenderReveal relevant]].
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: For reason for going to war.
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: Notably most of it happens while she's disguised as a man.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: Mulan makes a successful move on a xiangqi (aka Chinese chess) board belonging to two old men during the Matchmaker scene after contemplating for only a moment.
* SweetPollyOliver: Probably the most famous example, Mulan impersonates a son to her father to take his place in the war.
* TechnicalPacifist: Very technical, since she's a soldier who kills people on purpose. Still, with the BigBad right in front of her, Mulan uses the sword she's holding for every purpose but the one it was built for.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tomboy to the princesses' Girly Girls in the sequel.
* WellDoneDaughterGirl: Her disappointment as being a poor bride intensifies her decision to impersonate a son. Later, once she's saved China, her father says:
-->'''Fa Zao:''' The greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter.
* YamatoNadeshiko: [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]]. She tries to be a completely straight version in the beginning, which only ends in disaster, but she does have more traits of it than at first glance. While she's not as ladylike as the traditional YN, she fits [[SilkHidingSteel the "core of steel"]] and "devotion to her family" parts '''perfectly''' - after all, the reason why she went to war as a {{Bifauxnen}} was not to get glory or escape her family situation, but to save her aging father from sure death.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Most people would think she's at least eighteen, probably in her early twenties.. Nope, she's sixteen.
