* BecameTheirOwnAntithesis: They consider themselves heroes for defeating the “wicked” Eldia who they accuse of trampling the world with Titans in their conquest and looking down on other races (especially theirs). Now, they are aggressive expansionist that use Titans for the exact same thing and arrogantly look down on other countries while considering theirs the best (all while continuing to spite the Eldians).

* ItsAllAboutMe: Annie flat out tells Reiner that for all Marley's talk about greatness and Eldia being demons they (and Eldia and really everyone) only really cares about themselves and are willing to be hypocrites and stomp on the other side while deluding themselves if it benefits them. In fact, they're willing to potentially damn the rest of the world in order to maintain their military supremacy by attacking Paradis, as doing so would cause the Rumbling.

* TheMinionMaster / MookMaker: Both {{invoked}}. They are shown to have access to large quantities of the spino-cerebral serum that is used to transform Eldians into mindless Titans; they are even knowledgeable of the doses required to transform into the different types of Titans. Although the actual source of that serum has not been revealed yet.

* DropTheHammer: In case anyone thought the War Hammer was some sort of metaphor; nope. It's there and she makes efficient use of it in combat.

* ALighterShadeOfBlack: According to Udo, compared to how his parents, who are Eldians, were treated in an internment zone in another country, the Marleyans are more ''tolerant'' of them and by extension other Eldians, which is saying a lot considering the things the Marleyans have done to Eldians, individually or widespread.

A member of the Public Security Bureau overseeing the Liberio Ghetto in Marley. He later is shown to have risen in rank as one of the commanding officers in the Marleyan army tasked with sending off the captive Eldian revolutionaries to Paradis Island. A stocky, mustached man.

* TheBadGuysAreCops: He pretty much has carte blanche to do whatever he wants with Eldians as a member of the military, since opposing him means to oppose the Marleyan establishment.

* {{Foil}}: To Rod Reiss, the former King of Paradis. One is relatively taller and classically handsome, while the other was short and aging and balding. Willy expresses a desire to change the status quo, while Rod was obsessed with maintaining the King's Will. But both are ultimately the shadowy rulers of their respective lands, controlling the lives of the people while hiding their true authority, and [[spoiler: act as the public face of their families while another female member serves as the vessel of their families' Titan Power]].

The nation of Marley keeps its Eldian citizens in designated Internment Zones, or Ghettos, one of which is located in the Marleyan city of Liberio (AKA Rebellio depending on the translator). The residents live in impoverished conditions and are subject to inhumane treatment. Many of the residents are believers in the tale of Eldian atrocities, and vocally express support for Marley... at least to avoid being reported to authorities. The families of the Warriors and Warrior candidates all dwell here. The Eldians of the ghettos are identified by their armbands depicting the Nine-Pointed Star, the symbol of Eldia outside Paradis.

* HateSink: She's an incredibly petty and delusional woman, manipulating her son down a path that destroyed his life and eager to do the same to her niece. Even her moments of affection towards Reiner are tainted by her constant lies, and inability to comprehend her son's pain. She's one of the few characters in the story not involved in any position in the military or the authorities, that has absolutely no redeeming qualities, save for realizing what a terrible person she's been. What makes it worse is that she cannot even be called "crazy"; she's just a terrible person altogether.

* BlatantLies: In hindsight, [[spoiler:had Karl Fritz indeed allowed for the Marleyans to take the power of the Coordinate in order to make the Eldian Race wither away like Willy argued, the Marleyans shouldn't have had to try to seize it by force like they did and through underhanded methods like espionage and infiltration]]. There's certainly something missing on his rethoric.
